Trump Attacks Perry AGAIN Check Out Perry's Response~ LOL

Donald Trump said Rick Perry doesn't belong on the debate stage with him next week in Cleveland

In an interview at his Trump Tower headquarters, the billionaire questioned the former Texas governor's 'energy,' 'brainpower' and 'toughness'

Perry, finishing a speech a few hours later, responded to The Donald'Let's get a pull-up bar out there and see who can do more pull-ups!' he said

Trump, 69, questioned during a morning interview in his Trump Tower office whether Perry should be included in the August 6 GOP primary debate, and said he lacks the 'energy,' the 'brainpower' and the 'toughness' to run a successful presidential campaign.

Asked a few hours later following a speech what he would tell Trump if he had heard the dismissive comments in person, the 65-year-old Perry shot back a physical challenge to The Donald,.

'Let's get a pull-up bar out there and see who can do more pull-ups,' he said as an audience at the Yale Club of New York roared.

Trump, though, was serious about showing Perry the back of his hand.

'I don't think he belongs on the stage,' Trump told DailyMail.com, speaking of the GOP debate next week in Cleveland. It's about energy, it's about brainpower, it's about toughness.'

Wild Thing's comment............

LOL Trump's ego bigger then his abilities. Trump is an out of shape golfer. Keep in mind Rick Perry works out, Gov. Perry's house "features a pull-up bar for his daily workouts," Plus Perry is a jogger and has been known to jog 17 miles per week.

Remember this story from 2010, Perry made national news when he killed a coyote during a jog in Texas. He said the coyote was threatening his daughters' Labrador retriever.
"Don't attack my dog or you might get shot … if you're a coyote," he told reporters.

Love that story!!!

There’s a Very ‘Special’ Story Behind the ‘Come and Take It’ Flag That Now Hangs in Marcus Luttrell’s Office

There’s a Very ‘Special’ Story Behind the ‘Come and Take It’ Flag That Now Hangs in Marcus Luttrell’s Office

On the wall of legendary Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s new office hangs his wife’s wedding dress. The fascinating story of how it got there is the subject of Friday night’s episode of “The Junk Gypsies,” which airs on the Great American Country channel.

Last fall, Luttrell’s wife, Melanie, asked the ladies if they could create an office-slash-study for her husband in the family’s new home. But they would have to do it in secret to surprise him.

The TV show typically spotlights celebrity weddings and makeover of airstream trailers for rock stars like Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and county star Miranda Lambert. The show’s hosts, Amie and Jolie Sikes freely admitted that designing an office for a retired Navy SEAL was a different type of challenge.

“We’ve been asked to do a lot of projects in the past. From celebrity weddings to tour buses. But, this is for somebody who is a national hero,” said Amie Sikes.

In an interview with TheBlaze, the Sikes sisters shared the story of meeting Luttrell and his wife when they stopped by the tiny town of Round Top, Texas, last October and visited the headquarters of the Junk Gypsies. The Luttrells and the Sikes family became fast friends.

Late last year, Melanie talked with Amie and Jolie about her hopes for her husband’s office, telling the women, “Marcus honors his brothers really well. But, I don’t necessarily want it to be a memorial…I want it to have a good feeling.”

The ladies told TheBlaze, they wanted the room to reflect all of Marcus Luttrell.

“You know, he’s a husband, a father, and a brother and a son and he’s a devout Texas and a family man and a rider…and we wanted to pay respect to that,” Amie Sikes said, later admitting the task was a daunting one. “We’ve literally been asked to do the most manliest ‘man room of all men’ — and they have asked the Junk Gypsies to do his study.”

One of the more special moments of the program poignantly connects Lutrell’s love for his wife and his love for the state of Texas. Melanie Luttrell reportedly told the women, “His favorite symbol is the ‘Come and Take It’ flag.”

Amie and Jolie Sikes researched the flag. They discovered something quite profound. Amie told TheBlaze, “The night before the first battle (of the Texas revolution), the women made that flag out of their wedding dresses.”

When the gypsies spoke with Melanie Luttrell about recreating the “Come and Take It” flag, and highlighted the history of the wedding dresses, Melanie offered her own wedding dress for the project. You can see the flag, made from Melanie’s wedding dress, in the top left corner of the photo below:

After seeing the flag and hearing the story, Luttrell told the ladies, “I can’t think of anything more special…I can’t believe you all did that for me.”

Watch a preview of the segment courtesy of Great American Country and the Junk Gypsies:

How Best-Selling Thriller Novelist Brad Thor Came To Endorse Rick Perry For President

This is Brad Thor and it is also his newest book. He was interviewed about his support for Rick Perry and why and the interview is below..........IT IS AN AWESOME INTERVIEW. ~Chrissie.

How Best-Selling Thriller Novelist Brad Thor Came To Endorse Rick Perry For President

Thriller novelist Brad Thor says it wasn’t a foregone conclusion he would endorse Rick Perry for president.

When the former Texas governor officially entered the 2016 presidential race in Addison, Texas June 4, Thor was among the phalanx of prominent supporters, including “Lone Survivor” Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, standing behind him. But in an interview with The Daily Caller last week, Thor, who supported Rick Santorum’s presidential bid in 2012, says he was initially skeptical of Perry because of his “lousy” 2012 presidential campaign.

Thor’s journey from Perry-skeptic to enthusiastic endorser began last year when Perry asked the New York Times best-selling author to bring his family to visit him down at the governor’s mansion in Austin. The two had first connected months earlier when Perry tried to persuade Thor to move to Texas when he heard the author was planning to leave Illinois. To Perry’s chagrin, Thor ultimately chose Tennessee.

When Thor got the call from Perry to come meet with him, he knew what the Texas governor was seeking, but wasn’t sure he could oblige.

“I was really underwhelmed with the governor’s debate performance,” Thor said of Perry’ embarrassing 2012 debate gaffes, “so I wanted to put him in a debate situation. I wanted the governor to debate Brad Thor. I wanted to get him, and I wanted to get him alone.”

So last fall, Thor journeyed to Texas.

“He still had his governor’s duties, and he’d come home, and I’d catch him in the morning, I’d catch him in the evening, and we’d sit on the porch of the Governor’s Mansion,” Thor said. “I was unforgiving in my hammering. I figured, ‘Okay, let’s see what this guy’s got.'”

Thor says he discussed monetary policy, domestic policy and foreign policy with the governor and came away convinced that Perry “is a different man than he was when he last went through the crucible of the Republican primary process.”

“I have no time for stupid people,” he said. “Rick Perry is very, very, very — that’s three verys — intelligent.”

Thor left Texas with a good feeling about Perry, but he didn’t tell the governor he would have his support if he ran until a couple months later. Shortly before he stood behind Perry in Addison earlier this month as the governor officially launched his campaign, Thor says he called Santorum to break the news to the former Pennsylvania senator that he wouldn’t be getting his support this time around.

“That was probably one of the toughest things I had to do,” Thor said.

Though he is enthusiastically behind Perry, Thor says he “will not knock anybody in the Republican field,” except for Jeb Bush because he’s “not into dynasties.” But what set Perry apart for Thor — besides Perry’s record in Texas, which Thor says “nobody” in the race “can match”– was the governor’s character.

“The first meal I ate with him, he gave a prayer. Not only did he pray for the future of the country, he also prayed for President Obama,” Thor explained. “He prayed that President Obama would be granted wisdom and would be shown the right decisions to make for the nation. That’s not a show thing, because I’ve seen him do it multiple times. I’ve seen him do it with just the two of us, and that impressed me. That really impressed me.”

After Perry’s June entrance into the race, Thor campaigned with him in several early primary states. Though a busy man — his 15th novel “Code of Conduct” comes out July 7 and Warner Brothers is turning his novel “The Athena Project” into a film starring female mixed martial arts superstar Ronda Rousey — Thor is committed to doing whatever Perry asks him to do because he believes this election is the “last chance” to save the country.

“Am I going to be going to town halls with the governor to introduce him and to tell people why? Yes,” he explained. “Am I going to be a surrogate for him? Am I going to go on TV and debate with people from Scott Walker’s camp, or Jeb Bush’s camp to say, ‘This is why Rick Perry’s better than your guy?’ Yes. I’d do all of that.”

What’s more, Thor says he is willing to help write speeches and cut ads.

“I’ve offered myself up on that, because I think one of the biggest problems the Republican Party has is that it doesn’t have good storytellers,” he said.

Asked whether he fears his vocal political advocacy could turn off readers who don’t have the same political leanings he does, Thor concedes that’s “a big fear I have, because I have a product to sell.”

But, Thor added, he feels he has a patriotic duty to speak out.

Right now, Perry isn’t polling particularly well, currently sitting in tenth place nationally in the Republican field at 3 percent, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. In this position, he is in danger of not making the cut off for some of the Republican debates.

Perry’s current polling doesn’t much concern Thor, who cites former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s massive lead in primary polls in 2008 before he “flamed out.”

And what if Perry does come from behind to win the Republican nomination and then the general election, would Thor consider putting his writing career on hold and join a man he says he would follow into “hell with a spoon” with into the White House?

“I don’t have a desire to do it,” Thor says, but “if Rick Perry gets into the White House, and if governor and president-elect Perry says to me, ‘We can’t do this without you,’ I would walk away from my career. If the country needed it, I would go do it.”

Upon further reflection, Thor sort of warms to the idea.

“I don’t want to be a politician, so if they want somebody to come in and swing an axe, who doesn’t care where the pieces fall with the establishment, if you want me to come in and just absolutely take them to the woodshed, it might be hard to turn down,” he added. “If it’s part of making the country stronger and better and making Washington more efficient, and I get to swing an axe, oooh, that would be hard to say ‘no’ to, because the country needs it.”

Wild Thing's comment.............

This is such an impressive wrtite up by Brad Thor. If you get the chance please read the entire thing. It is worth it.

Rick Perry statement regarding reports that Iran is supporting the Taliban

Rick Perry statement regarding reports that Iran is supporting the Taliban

Rick Perry website

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry today released the following statement regarding reports that Iran is supporting the Taliban:

Reports that Iran is supporting the Taliban with cash and arms are the latest alarming consequence of the vacuum of leadership created by President Obama’s failed foreign policy. Iran has time and again looked for any opportunity to pursue its regional ambitions, which opens the door to more sectarian violence in the future.

The Obama Administration has claimed that it is conceding ground in the Iranian nuclear negotiations in order to incentivize Iran to act constructively in other areas, like Afghanistan. As this latest news shows, even by the Obama Administration’s own standard, these negotiations are failing.

If the Administration’s nuclear deal is signed at the end of the month and sanctions against Iran are lifted, it will further enable Iran to fund fundamentalist groups like the Taliban, which we have spent over a decade fighting. It is long past time for the United States to hold the line in nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Excellent statement.

Rick Perry Pledges to Work for Veterans ‘Until I Take My Last Breath’

Rick Perry Pledges to Work for Veterans ‘Until I Take My Last Breath’

NASHUA, N.H.—Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry promised during a campaign stop today that he would reform the Department of Veterans Affairs if elected president of the United States.

Perry, speaking at Nashua Community College in New Hampshire, pledged to work for veterans “until I take my last breath.”

“If you elect me your president, there will be an individual that goes to the Oval Office every day, committed to the military men and women and to the veterans of this country,” Perry said.

“It won’t be an afterthought. It will be every day walking in that Oval Office, asking the chief of staff if we’re getting the VA straightened up, if we’re getting the work done for these veterans—men and women who held their hand up and who said, ‘Here I am, send me.’”

Perry said that “we made them a promise” and “we’ll live up to it.”

“I’ve seen the cost of war on the faces of these young men and women and their families,” Perry said. “We understand something, and that is, that we need to do everything we can in our power to never put these young men and women in harm’s way. I mean everything that we can do in our power not to put them in harm’s way.”

Speaking more generally about how he would approach the option of military force overseas, Perry said that when all other options have been exhausted, and war becomes a necessity, then the United States should fight with “crushing power,” then “go home.”

Perry, who declared last week that he will be a Republican candidate for president in 2016, also discussed his economic platform.

He said that a reduction of the corporate tax rate would result in more jobs and higher wages for American workers.

Before his remarks, Perry spoke briefly with John Constantino Jr., a veteran and New Hampshire resident.

Constantino told The Daily Signal that he discussed with Perry “how to straighten up the VA.”

We’ve got to get a military man in there,” Constantino said. “He’s [Perry] number one on my list.”

Perry and his wife, Anita, were joined onstage by several supporters, including Marcus Luttrell, the author of the best-selling book, “Lone Survivor,” his twin brother Morgan Luttrell, and author Brad Thor.

Perry to Hillary: Fix Your Own State Before You Attack the People of Texas

Perry to Hillary: Fix Your Own State Before You Attack the People of Texas

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” former Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) reacted to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton accusing Republicans of intentionally attempting to disenfranchise voters based on race, age and poverty level and said she insulted the people of Texas who overwhelmingly supported the law.

Perry said, “Well, I think it’s way outside the norm of ridiculous, if you want to know the truth of the matter, to call out the people of the state of Texas, that’s what she did, I just happened to be the governor that signed that legislation and support it, and the vast majority of the people of Texas support it, and what Secretary Clinton did was saying the state of Texas didn’t.”

He continued, “Why would you say that you need a photo id to get a library book or to get on an airplane? This is a state issue, and this is an issue that the people that the state of Texas overwhelmingly support. so you know, I don’t know who she is playing to, but she is not playing to the people of Texas and I don’t think she is playing to the Americans that believe that the sanctity of the vote is really important and you need to have a photo id to go and vote. And the people of Texas wanted it, and whichever state Hillary Clinton considers to be her home state, she goes home and argues there to not to have it.”

“I think we make it pretty easy in the state of Texas for people to vote. again, I don’t know what her beef is with the people of the state of Texas about voter id but I think she is on the wrong side of the issue,” he added.

Wild Thing's comment...........

Good for Perry.

Rick Perry’s Job Rate was Four Times the National Average while Governor of Texas

Rick Perry’s Job Rate was Four Times the National Average while Governor of Texas

Perry’s 14 years as Chief Executive of the country’s second largest state, the job rate rose nearly four times that of the national average.

That’s getting things done!

That’s showing the people you care about what really matters.

That’s what being a leader is.

While Rick Perry was governor of Texas, his state added more than 2.2 million jobs at a growth rate of nearly four times the national rate, but an economist says governors and mayors attract jobs rather than actually creating them.

“That doesn’t mean these elected are irrelevant to job growth,” economist Jared Bernstein says, reports NPR. “While the aggregate quantity of jobs in a nation is largely driven by macro and global trends, there’s a lot sub-national officials can do to try to encourage the jobs that are created to locate in their states and cities. They affect less the number of jobs than where those jobs end up.”

But that doesn’t mean the numbers aren’t certifiably high for the former Texas governor, who says the incredible job growth in his state is one reason Americans should choose him as their next president.

During Perry’s 14 years in office, Texas added more than 2.2 million jobs, a growth rate of more than 23 percent, according to NPR’s analysis of state employment data from the St. Louis Federal Reserve.

The data showed that there are only three GOP candidates or potential hopefuls who can claim job growth that was faster than the national rate, and those are Perry in the lead, followed by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

In comparison to Perry’s numbers, U.S. employment grew by just over 6 percent, meaning Perry’s job growth was about 3.8 times as fast, and Perry, during his announcement speech, pointed that out.

Wild Thing's comment............

These numbers probably will mean nothing to many voters because too few people really pay attention. I wish they would because it does mean something to have been the kind of leader Perry was as Gov. . He was fantastic.

Gov. Rick Perry Announced His Run for President 2016

June 5th, 2015

Governor Rick Perry announces his campaign for the 2016 Republican nomination for President. Introduced by his wife Anita and flanked by retired U.S. Navy SEALs Marcus and Morgan Luttrell, the widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, and many others.

Here are just a few things he said in his speech.

" On that peaceful, wind-swept setting, there lie 9,000 graves, including 45 pairs of brothers, 33 of whom are buried side by side, a father and a son, two sons of a president. They all traded their future for ours in a final act of loving sacrifice. In that American Cemetery, it is no accident each headstone faces west: west over the Atlantic, towards the nation they defended, the nation they loved, the nation they would never come home to.

It struck me as I stood in the midst of those heroes that they look upon us in silent judgment. And that we must ask ourselves: are we worthy of their sacrifice? The truth is we are at the end of an era of failed leadership."
Weakness at home has led to weakness abroad. The world has descended into a chaos of this president’s own making, while his White House loyalists construct an alternative universe where ISIS is contained and Ramadi is merely a “setback” – where the nature of the enemy can’t be acknowledged for fear of causing offense, where the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran, can be trusted to live up to a nuclear agreement.
No decision has done more harm than the president’s withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. Let no one be mistaken, leaders of both parties have made grave mistakes in Iraq. But in January, 2009 – when Barack Obama became Commander-in-Chief – Iraq had been largely pacified. America had won the war. But our president failed to secure the peace. How callous it seems now as cities once secured with American blood are now being taken by America’s enemies, all because of a campaign slogan.

Wild Thing's comment............

A genuine American leader that knows what he is talking about and has done what he is talking about.

This was the best announcement speech so far, by a long, long way. Rick Perry gives America real hope again. Made me think about the optimism of Ronald Reagan.

Flanked By Navy SEALS, Rick Perry Will Announce He's Running For President Today

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry will officially announce his presidential plans today from Addison, Texas flanked by an impressive group of special operations veterans. Perry is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Check out the list:

Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Paul Craig
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL JJ Jones
Taya Kyle, widow of Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. history and author of American Sniper
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, author of Lone Survivor
Navy SEAL Morgan Luttrell
Retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain Dan Moran
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Pete Scobell
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor Recipient Mike Thornton

New York Times Bestselling author Brad Thor will also be at the announcement along with Melanie Luttrell, wife of Marcus Luttrell.

Late last week Taya Kyle, the widow of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, sent out an email in support of Perry for RickPac detailing her personal relationship with the governor and his wife. She will also be in attendance today.

"One of the greatest things my husband, Chris Kyle, ever did was move our family to Texas. Even though he is gone, this state that shaped his patriotism, integrity and loving spirit reminds us of him at every turn. I tend to keep my political opinions to myself—the only candidate I ever endorsed was in a race for county sheriff—but this is different. On Thursday June 4th, I’ll be in Addison, Texas, where I’ll proudly stand with one of the great leaders this state and country have ever produced: Rick Perry," Kyle wrote. "I got to know Rick and Anita Perry outside of the public eye, where I’ve had an up-close view of their humility and commitment to doing the right thing for people regardless of who gets the credit. Believe me, they are a breath of fresh air in a political system full of people playing games and twisting the truth. My husband may have been in the military, but no one tells me which leader to follow. Instead, I look beyond the sound bites and even minor disagreements to find who has the economic TRACK RECORD and the CHARACTER it takes to make tough choices in the face of criticism. That’s why I’ll be there in person as Rick and Anita Perry discuss their future and his vision for America. Please join me and patriots like Marcus & Morgan Luttrell as we stand with our friend, Gov. Rick Perry."

Governor Rick Perry, an American Hero, and a Harley

Governor Rick Perry, an American Hero, and a Harley

(22 Photos)

Later this week, you’ll hear the story of Jack Holder, one of the most famous living WWII airmen, who fought his way across both Pacific and European theaters of war. A Texas native and a good friend of mine, Jack confided in me that he was a big fan of Gov. Rick Perry. The Governor had been instrumental in theCHIVE’s highly-publicized move from California to Texas, during which time the Governor and I connected – we’re both WWII enthusiasts to an extent far beyond a hobby.

So I called the Governor and asked if he’d take time out of his busy schedule to visit with this hero? Governor Perry, an Air Force Captain himself, simply responded, “When and Where?” What followed was one of the most fascinating and powerful discussions we’ve ever had on theCHIVE, all of which was recorded on our Podcast. It’s available for download right here.

As the Governor was leaving our office having deftly dodged all my, “On a scale of 1 to 10, are you running for President?” I asked him about his upcoming travel plans and the Governor lit up. Gov. Perry told me he was headed to Iowa on June 6th for a 30 mile motorcycle ride from Perry, Iowa, to Boone to raise money for the Puppy Jake Foundation, an organization that trains and places service dogs with wounded veterans. I asked him which motorcycle he was riding?

“I’m trying to figure that out right now, actually.”

“Governor, I think I know a guy in Iowa who could help you out in that department.”

“That’s really not necessary, John.”

“Have you ever heard of a man named Taylor Morris…”

Navy EOD tech Taylor Morris was leading a team of Army Special forces to a classified location when Taylor stepped on an IED. It exploded underneath him and blew off all four of his limbs,

“As I somersaulted through the air, I watched my arms and legs fly off.”

Taylor landed back in the blast crater. This is where the story of Taylor’s bravery goes next-level.

After the explosion, Taylor didn’t lose consciousness; he didn’t go into shock. His thoughts immediately crystalized. Even though Taylor was bleeding to death, he called to the oncoming medics NOT to come get him, putting their safety in front of his own life.

“There was no visual on the mine and no sound ID on my mine detector. That told me the mine was old. If there were other mines out there, the medics wouldn’t see them or detect them unless it was cleared properly. I knew I had arterial bleeding from all 4 limbs and I was bleeding out fast. I told my buddies to stop, I didn’t need anybody stepping on another one.”

The area around Taylor was finally cleared by the second EOD and the medic finally administered combat casualty care. Taylor remained conscious through the ordeal. Somehow he survived…

Three days after the explosion, Taylor landed back in the States and was transported to Walter Reed hospital in Washington D.C. to begin the long and painful rehab process. Upon his arrival, Taylor became only the 5th person at Walter Reed to ever survive a four limb amputation.

His physical progression defied everybody’s expectations. Taylor was known to refuse to leave rehab – he pushed himself to his physical limits, despite the pain. Only a month after the explosion the stitches in his arms were removed and he was fitted for prosthetics.

Around that same time I heard of the man named Taylor Morris. I received a dozen personal emails from many of his brothers describing his heroism on the battlefield, how difficult his road to recovery would be, and about his girlfriend Danielle, who was the only person they knew who was just as strong as Taylor. She never left his side at Walter Reid.

With his medical bills paid, theCHIVE quickly launched a campaign to build Taylor his dream home when he finally returned to Iowa. The campaign shattered GoFundMe records, raising $250,000 in 24 hours.

After 2 years of rehab, Taylor returned home to Iowa a hero.

After I told the Governor about Taylor Morris, he explained he’d be out in Iowa near Taylor’s home in Cedar Falls on the 19th and would love to visit Taylor if it was okay with him?

I called Taylor and asked if he still had that bike and was “putting oil in it n’ stuff.” I explained to him the Governor had a big charity ride for veterans in June.

“Of course. Can he ride? It’s a fast bike, John.”

“I’m pretty sure he can, I dunno.”

Lone Survivor’ Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell Shares Special Friendship with Rick Perry

Lone Survivor’ Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell Shares Special Friendship with Rick Perry

SIMI VALLEY, California — Two noted veterans took to the stage on Monday evening at the Ronald Reagan Library. Former Texas Governor Rick Perry, who is likely gearing up for a presidential announcement, arrived to introduce former Navy SEAL and author of Lone Survivor, Marcus Luttrell.

Perry, 65, served as a captain in the Air Force, and Luttrell’s story of surviving an ambush in Afghanistan is well known. Beyond the friendship and evident respect they share for one another, Perry and Luttrell said they share a special father-son-type relationship.

“Tonight you are going to have the great privilege to hear from someone who simply understood that he owed a debt–a debt to the individuals who had come before him,” Perry said.

He continued:

We are in the presence of some extraordinary human beings and none more so than the one you’ll hear from tonight, who is just a regular, common country boy who found himself in extraordinary circumstances and realizes how fortunate he is to be here. And until he takes his dying breath, he will honor those individuals who served before him. … He will honor this country and what this country stands for around the world.

Luttrell, 39, took the stage, speaking candidly and using humor to draw the audience into his otherwise morose stories. He recounted his experience serving our country and his close ties to the Perry Family.

“I was the creepy guy in the attic,” he said, explaining that they had taken him in and were the only family he had when he showed up one day, unannounced, at the governor’s mansion in 2007.

Ever since that fateful day, Mrs. Anita Perry had helped nurse him back to health following extensive damage to his body from the war, including to his spine.

Luttrell recalled that he was never the strongest link in the SEAL chain. He said he was never the weakest, either, which meant those around him never had to worry about him breaking. He then told the audience about the day he found his breaking point. It was the day his fellow SEAL and brother in arms, Mike, was killed in Afghanistan:

I was sitting in my boots, shaking and he kept screaming, “I need your help up here man. I need your help.” And it got so intense that I actually put my weapon down over my leg and covered my ears … because I couldn’t stand to hear him die. … And that was the last time I saw him.

He said the one thing they could not put in the film about his book was how many times he and his brothers got knocked out. “Normally, you get knocked out one time a year, maybe. I got knocked out six times in the gun fights. I was tucking my brain back into my ears, man. My hands were shaking, [and] I couldn’t see anything, really,” he told the captivated audience.

One by one, each of his SEAL teammates was killed. Luttrell had escaped the deadly clutches of the Taliban several times. Then the day arrived when he thought perhaps his end was near, too. But his life was spared by an Afghani villager named Mohammad Gulab, who found Luttrell and took him into his home.

Luttrell spoke of the importance of discipline and respect. Although he said his father was never really around, he explained that he taught him to “respect yourself and respect … other people. And the only time you lose your respect is when you lose your discipline. And you’re the only one who can go that way.”

During his time on tour in Afghanistan, he said, “Only three people kept in touch with me: my mother, my brother, and Governor Perry.”

He added, “Governor Perry taught me how to be a good man and to be a good husband. Not only does he have to take care of his own family, but the state of Texas. That’s a big deal, [and] that’s important.”

Luttrell lived with the Perry family until he met his wife, Melanie. The couple has two children.

“That’s my family,” he said of the Perrys. And “they’re the best thing that ever happened to me. … Thanks for being my best friend, my father figure, and for teaching me the important values that I learned after the military. That’s why you’re the godfather of my kids, man.”
