Muslims Want Tangible Change on Mideast From Obama
CAIRO, Egypt
Respect for Islam, a prescription for Palestinian statehood and assurances of a speedy U.S. pullout from Iraq — that's what Muslims from Morocco to Malaysia say they want to hear from President Barack Obama this week when he addresses them from this Arab capital.
His speech Thursday from Cairo University will try to soften the fury toward the United States among so many of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims, ignited by the U.S. occupation of Iraq and the hands-off attitude toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of his predecessor George W. Bush.
Obama's offer of a new beginning is seen as an attempt to stem the growing influence of extremists — particularly Iran, with its regional and nuclear ambitions — and to bolster moderate Muslim allies.
It comes just days ahead of crucial elections in Lebanon and Iran — where the appeal of militancy will be put to the test — and amid worsening violence in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The American leader's soaring oratory and Muslim roots have kindled hope among Muslims. But they will judge him by his actions, not his words, said 20-year-old Mohammed Wasel, sipping sugar cane juice with friends after mosque prayers in Cairo's Abbasiya neighborhood.
"There will be a lot of talk, but I seriously want to see something real coming out of this speech, something tangible," Wasel said, expressing a view shared by an Eritrean social worker in Rome, a retired teacher in Baghdad and a Palestinian mayor in the West Bank.
Obama "has to walk the talk," said social activist Marina Mahathir, daughter of Malaysia's former prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad.
But with rising hopes come the risk of disappointment. Obama isn't expected to present a detailed vision of a Mideast peace deal — potentially the most effective antidote to anti-Western sentiment — until later.
And there is doubt the U.S. president can change entrenched foreign policy, particularly what is perceived in the Muslim world as Washington's pro-Israeli bias. What Muslims see as America's repeated failure to hold Israel to its international obligations is a sore point. A construction freeze in Israeli West Bank settlements — Obama wants it, Israel rejects it — is shaping up as a major test.
"It's true that Obama's election created a new wave of hope," said Jordan-based political analyst Mouin Rabbani. "But if he pulls the same tricks as his predecessor — making some nice statements and doing the opposite in practice — people will be disabused of their illusions quite quickly."
Obama will also go to Saudi Arabia and meet King Abdullah on his Mideast trip. But he is not visiting Israel, though just a short flight away.
The president's initial actions have earned him good will. He's reached out to Muslims in an interview with an Arab satellite TV station, in video message to Iranians on the Persian new year and in a speech to the Turkish parliament. He ordered Guantanamo prison closed within a year and said the U.S. would not engage in torture, reversing two Bush policies seen here as having targeted Muslims.
After the Bush years, one of the darkest periods in U.S.-Muslim relations, there is now a chance for reconciliation, said Shibley Telhami, a Mideast scholar at the University of Maryland who conducts annual public opinion surveys around the Middle East.
"The most striking is the openness toward President Obama and the expressed hopefulness about American foreign policy, something profoundly new, given the last eight years," he said.
In the latest survey, 73 percent of 4,087 respondents felt positive or neutral toward Obama. The poll had margins of error ranging from 3.6 to 4.5 percentage points, in the six Arab countries where it was conducted in April and May.
The positive results for Obama seem remarkable for a region where four in five people still hold unfavorable views of the U.S., and Venezuela's stridently anti-American President Hugo Chavez was named most admired foreign leader.
If Obama wants to rally Muslim support to rein in Iran, analysts say, he will have to prove his good intentions elsewhere. In particular, he needs to move to end Israel's occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, lands the Palestinians want for a state.
"If he wants to win the hearts of Muslims, then there must be peace for all of the Middle East," said M. Salim Abdullah, 78, a Muslim of Bosnian descent who heads an Islamic research library in Soest, Germany.
A pullout of Iraqi troops according to schedule would also go a long way toward restoring Muslim confidence. But despite Obama's timetable — he plans to withdraw most U.S. troops by September 2010 and pull all out by the end of 2011 — many are upset by the ongoing violence and fear Iraq could one day disintegrate.
Obama's choice of Cairo as the venue for his speech highlights problems that have long fed militancy in the Arab world. Authoritarian rule, poverty and a lack of opportunity deprive many of the young of a say in their future.
Youth unemployment in the Middle East and North Africa is the highest in the world, with one in four young Egyptians sitting idle, the U.N. says. Nearly 20 percent of Egypt's 79 million people live on less than $2 a day. Islamic militants from Egypt, including al Qaida's No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri, have exported their violent ideology. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, like other U.S. allies in the region, tolerates little opposition.
Obama will have to strike a balance between raising human rights violations in Egypt and elsewhere in the region, while not sounding like he is trying to impose U.S. values. The Bush administration's pro-democracy campaign in the Middle East was widely seen as hypocritical, particularly after the U.S. refused to deal with the Islamic militant Hamas despite its 2006 election victory in the Palestinian territories.
"When someone talks to me with dignity and respect, then I will feel I could follow him," said 19-year-old Mustafa Ragab. He spoke after Friday prayers at a Cairo mosque, where the preacher promoted the idea of dialogue ahead of Obama's visit. "I think Obama will be able to make the Arabs feel that way."
Beyond shared concerns, different parts of the Muslim world have particular issues.
While the U.S. draws down forces in Iraq, it is building them up in another Muslim country, Afghanistan, as part of its intensifying war on the Taliban. But the Afghan government says mounting civilian deaths are undermining support for the campaign.
Kabul shopkeeper Abdul Wasi, 34, said sending more U.S. troops is futile. "The experience of our three decades of war shows that in the end, it will not work," said Wasi, 34. "Since Obama came in, nothing has changed for us."
Iranians say they want Obama to ease economic sanctions, in place since 1995, and push for a resumption of ties.
"The sanctions the U.S has imposed so far have only damaged ordinary people in Iran," said Tehran mechanic Abbas Taghizadeh.
Millions of Muslims in Europe struggle to win acceptance and shed the stigma of extremism, without sacrificing their customs. They have fought for the right to build mosques and have girls wear headscarves in schools, a sign of religious observance. Obama may not have much to offer in their struggles.
Still Obama gets some credit up front for just being himself. Many were inspired by his victory, emotionally connecting to his African and Muslim roots and his childhood in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation.
"It's so exciting to have a black man run the entire world," said Awni Shatarat, 45, a clothing store owner in the Palestinian refugee camp of Baqaa in Jordan.

Obama Despite TORTURE Video Approves Plans for U.S.-UAE Nuclear Power Deal
For those thinking of traveling to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or any other place in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), OR if you know someone that thinks it is just soooo special that Obama wants to cozy up to, side with, or give ANY credibility to promises of Muslims....~ Wild Thing

Dubai and Abu Dhabi have spent millions and millions of dollars trying to convince the West that their cities are different from other areas in the Middle East. Brad Pitt, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, Pamela Anderson, New York University, the Guggenheim Museum, renowned architect Frank Gehry, and others have been lured to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the United Arab Emirates in an effort to convince the western public that it is safe to visit and do business there. Even the famous Louvre Museum in France--which has received approximately $1.3 BILLION from the Abu Dhabi government as part of a new museum in Abu Dhabi--has been paid to legitimize the country.
In December 2008, the United States government entered into an agreement with the UAE which would allow for the transfer of nuclear-related components and materials from the United States to the UAE. Congress is now considering the agreement, which has several members of Congress very concerned.
The United States government has extensive military relations with Abu Dhabi and the U.A.E. The U.S. Navy puts more sailors ashore for more liberty days a year at the Jebel Ali port in Abu Dhabi than at any other foreign port. The White House is selling the U.A.E. $9.4 billion worth of state-of-the-art air defense systems and components, including the Patriot missile, E-2C aircraft upgrades, and support equipment.
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority is buying up huge parcels of land and is purchasing landmark buildings in the United States and England, and huge stakes in U.S. companies, including a 4.9% stake in Citibank and Toll Brothers, with the great wealth it has accumulated due to rising oil prices. U.S. taxpayers recently helped bailout Citibank (and by extension the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority) with $45 billion in cash and by guaranteeing up to $306 billion in loans.
There has been a major public relations push by the U.A.E. to convince the West that the U.A.E. is safe, that it is similar to the West, and that it is a great place to do business and to travel.
The video below shows what happened to American Citizen Bassam Nabulsi, it appears that anyone in the U.A.E. is subject to the whims of the royal families, or at least certain members. The point is, torture is practiced, human rights are ignored, and there is at least a strong appearance that the court systems are subject to influence by the royal family.
Sheikh Issa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (Sheikh Issa) is a member of the royal family in the U.A.E. Sheikh Issa is the younger brother of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the U.A.E. and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and also of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and President of the U.A.E. Forbes Magazine estimtes Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's net worth at least $23 billion.
Sheikh Issa takes pleasure in torturing those who disagree with him. Sheikh Issa videotapes the torture sessions so he can enjoy watching them later. It appears that Sheikh Issa has been assisted in his torture sessions by the Abu Dhabi police. Sheikh Issa has tortured people for up to forty five minutes at a time. This torture includes cattle prods, boards with nails, cigarette lighters, lighter fluid, and M-16 automatic rifles.
The message for anyone traveling or doing business in Abu Dhabi or the U.A.E. is clear. Be careful, be very, very careful.
Also when I read about all of this and watched the Video my thoughts went to how Obama intends to speak and reach out to his fellow Muslims in Cairo. We all know about the torture and killings that are done by the followers of Islam. How it is a death cult and how our troops are fighting this enemy from the pits of hell 24-7 in Iraq, Afghanistan, and all around the world. ~ Wild Thing
Bassam Nabulsi is a United States citizen and Houston businessman. Bassam Nabulsi and Sheikh Issa were business partners. Through the course of their relationship, Mr. Nabulsi learned that Sheikh Issa expected no disagreements from those with whom he dealt, including his partner and business manager, Mr. Nabulsi. As their relationship progressed, Mr. Nabulsi noted that Sheikh Issa grew more aggressive, and less tolerant.

This torture of an Afghan grain trader by a Muslim UAE prince ( Brother of the crown Prince)
A video tape smuggled out of the United Arab Emirates shows a member of the country's royal family mercilessly torturing a man with whips, electric cattle prods and wooden planks with protruding nails.
A man in a UAE police uniform is seen on the tape tying the victim's arms and legs, and later holding him down as the Sheikh pours salt on the man's wounds and then drives over him with his Mercedes SUV.
In a statement to ABC News, the UAE Ministry of the Interior said it had reviewed the tape and acknowledged the involvement of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, brother of the country's crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed.
The Minister of the Interior is also one of Sheikh Issa's brother.
The government statement said its review found "all rules, policies and procedures were followed correctly by the Police Department."

The fallout from the film — which was smuggled out of the UAE by a former business associate of the sheikh — has reached all the way to the Oval Office, where the civilian nuclear deal, awaiting the signature of President Obama, remains unsigned. A senior US official has said that the Administration is holding off certifying the treaty as a direct result of the film.
The terms of Treaty, the U.S. agrees to provide technology and equipment to help the UAE to develop civilian nuclear power plants. In return, the UAE pledges to abide by the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and not to reprocess its spent nuclear fuel.
Jim McGovern, the Democratic co-chairman of the congressional Human Rights Commission, viewed the tape last week and told The Times that it was “one of the most horrific things I have ever seen in my life”. In the tape the sheikh is seen torturing an Afghan grain salesman he claims has cheated him.
McGovern has written to Hillary Clinton, the U.S. Secretary of State, expressing his “outrage, horror and revulsion” about the tape and demanding that all sales and transfers of technology to the UAE, “including nuclear”, be suspended. He calls on Clinton to take a lead role in the investigation. He also told The Times that he would hold congressional hearings into the issue. “If the UAE think this is going to blow over, they are wrong,” he said. The case will be a further test of the Obama Administration’s commitment to human rights.

Obama OKs UAE N-deal despite torture video

Barack Obama has approved plans for the U.S. to help the United Arab Emirates become the first Arab nation with a nuclear power industry that will fuel the country's growing demand for electricity.
Obama's official backing of the pact, known as a "123 agreement," is praised by pro-business groups that say U.S. companies are now in the running for major construction work connected to the $41 billion project.
The president's approval comes a few weeks after news organizations, including The Associated Press, obtained a videotape showing a member of the country's royal family torturing a man.
The videotape led to criticism of the emirates' human rights record in the midst of an intense debate over U.S. interrogation methods.
Concerns have also been raised about the emirates' history as a transshipment point for sensitive technology moving into Iran. A small but vocal group of lawmakers have said they'll oppose the deal unless the United Arab Emirates takes stronger action to keep Iran from obtaining materials that could help it develop nuclear weapons.
Despite the objections, it's unlikely Capitol Hill will be a roadblock. Once the State Department sends the agreement to Congress, lawmakers will have 90 days to pass legislation either amending or rejecting the deal. If no bill passes, the agreement goes into effect.
Supporting the emirates' use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes is also intended to be a counterweight to Iran's pursuit of atomic weapons. Obama, as did his predecessor, George W. Bush, sees the emirates' program as a positive example for other countries, especially in the volatile Middle East.
Under the pact, the United Arab Emirates must import, rather than produce, fuel for its nuclear reactors. It also has committed not to enrich uranium or reprocess spent nuclear fuel for plutonium, which is used in nuclear bombs.
The agreement creates the legal framework for the U.S. to transfer sensitive nuclear items to the United Arab Emirates. The pact was signed in January by the departing Bush administration, which left the final decision to Obama.
"By moving this agreement forward, the president is creating the potential for thousands of new jobs for American workers," said Danny Sebright, president of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council.
The United Arab Emirates is expected to begin choosing construction companies this fall for reactor work. Firms from Japan, France, Russia are also expected to compete.
"I think the U.A.E. very much wants the U.S. under the tent," Sebright said.
To help guide the agreement through Congress, the United Arab Emirates hired a pair of heavyweight lobbying firms to convince lawmakers the agreement wouldn't end up boosting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The firms, Akin Gump and DLA Piper, also stressed the promise of jobs for American companies hit hard by a sagging economy.
The United Arab Emirates, a federation of seven states, wants nuclear power by 2017. Although the emirates have plenty of oil, they must import 60 percent of the natural gas they use to generate electricity.
The United Arab Emirates no longer wants to depend on outside sources for its energy needs and settled on nuclear power as the most economical and environmentally friendly option.
The videotape shows Sheik Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan beating a man who allegedly shortchanged him on a grain delivery. Issa is the brother of the Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, the country's capital, and deputy supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates' armed forces.
Following an outcry over the video, authorities in the emirates said Issa had been detained and an investigation is under way.
Rep. James McGovern, D-Mass., co-chairman of the House Human Rights Commission, said Wednesday he would oppose the 123 agreement because of his concerns over the human rights situation in the emirates.
"I recognize that the U.A.E. is a strategically important country," McGovern said. "But at some point, human rights have to matter."

Friday With Your Tigress of the Tigris, Ramadan Rosie
As you know I was successfully snatched, grabbed and waterboarded by the following during OPERATION ICEBREAKER: USMC recon, USA Rangers, US Navy Seals, Royal Marines, Black Watch, USAF Pararescue and many other of your soldiers, sailors and Fly Boys.
In the process my burka was removed and of course I ended up with only this bikini. I was generously given part of one of their Santa outfits, but for some reason the soldiers said they could not find the jacket. I do love the suspenders aren't they cute? If I snap by suspenders just soooo with my finger tips I can even get a few soldiers to salute me.
Oh we are having fun over here in the land of sand. But they are busy too, there are still a lot of my former brain dead Allah freaks to find, take prisoner or of course help them get to those promised virgins ( allah lied about that as I mentioned last week. There are no virgins at all but 72 hairy lipped, womens lib, man hating members of one of your organizations called N.O.W. they came over here when they delivered a check to the terrorists from Code Pink).
Did you hear the latest from the country near us Iran? You know the one that women in Iran who do not wear the hijab or Muslim headscarf, should die. That is the newest declaration from one of their top Muslim clerics in Iran, Hojatolislam Gholam Reza Hassani. Don't you think his name sounds like HOT Botulism? LOL May the stings of a thousand bees land on his forehead. Did I say that? This Tigress of the Tigris has come a long way. But your soldiers are ever so convincing.
"Women who do not respect the hijab and their husbands deserve to die," said Hassani, who leads Friday prayers in the city of Urumieh, in Iranian Azerbaijan."I do not understand how these women who do not respect the hijab, 28 years after the birth of the Islamic Republic, are still alive," he said.
"These women and their husbands and their fathers must die," said Hassani, who is the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in eastern Azerbaijan."
What a change life is from living under such laws and thinking. Your Western ways are much more fun. I think Muhammad was not only evil but also a stuffed shirt don't you? That is where these clerics get their instructions from his writings and that silly Quran filled with let's go bomb someone today verses.

And then sit in my newest non Burka outfit at the local Camel Riders Coffee Cafe and sip rich dark coffee as I visit with your troops and play dominoes.

T.A.I.F. Sports Can Be Dangerous For Your Health

The infidels in the land of the Great Satan need to know that Ali Jaafar was an infamous Iraqi sports caster during the reign of beloved Saddam Hussein. Iraqis love sports and especially soccer, rugby and boxing. Ali Jaafar was famous, especially when he was assassinated!
Also, today we have good news and bad news. The good news is that the soccer game between FC Baghdad and the Green Zone Generals has not been cancelled. The bad news there has been IED's discovered on one end of the soccer field, so the coin toss prior to the match will be very important!

The war against terror is still going on and on and on and on and Ramadan Rosie wants to ask the G.I. Joe's the following question. As a supposed world superpower, how come the U.S. defeated Germany, Japan and Italy in three and a half years during World War II (January 1942-1945), and the war in Iraq is still going on and on and on?
This is a fair question because the same question I just asked to all of the deployed U.S. fighting men and women is the same question asked daily by U.S. Senator Harry Reid and his Democratic majority party. Also, Senator Reid admitted - Praise be to Allah - "...that we already lost this war."
The Ramadan Rosie Word of the Day is 'Abu Sufyan'. Abu Suyfan was a leader of the pagan Quraysh who opposed Muhammad, but later converted to Islam, the religion of peace. Like in the game of chess, it's important to respect one's opponent. And since your public school education system in the land of the Great Satan is poor to say the least, Ramadan Rosie will soon bring you infidels up to speed. All I need is your attention and patience and loyalty.
Infidels have removed their God from the classrooms and sporting events and family dinner tables. Infidels say that 80% of Americans are Christians, but most only attend religious services on Christmas and Easter, and not the other fifty weeks of the year. This is shocking to the religion of peace and to global believers.
Islam's holy day is Friday, the Jews is Saturday and the Christians holy day of obligation is Sunday.
