US police show signs of solidarity with demonstrators at George Floyd protests

While there have been violent clashes between some US police and demonstrators protesting against the killing of George Floyd, other officers have been showing signs of solidarity and reaching out.

Some police have taken a knee with protesters in a gesture of respect while others have marched alongside demonstrators calling for change or simply hugged them.

The killing of George Floyd, 46, on 25 May has sparked days of mass protests and unrest across the US. Mr Floyd died after he was pinned at the neck by a white Minneapolis police officer.

Derek Chauvin, the officer caught on video with his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck, has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
