The idea behind Eminent Domain wasn't to take millions of acres of productive family farms completely out of production and drive the people off the land.
Trump tells Bret Baier conservatives oppose eminent domain because they're ignorant.

What many don't realize is that to build this Keystone XL pipeline, private foreign companies were given the power of Emenite Domain over American Citizens. A foreign company could take your property without going to court. I think the Texas Supreme Court stripped them of this power in their state.
