Man Sings To His 93 Year Old Dying Wife
This video was captured by Erin Solari, the granddaughter of Grandma Laura, 93, and Grandpa Howard, 92, who have been married 73 years. Laura was in a hospice being attended to in what was thought to be her last days.
When Laura heard Howard was in the room she asked to hold him. He cannot stand on his own and was helped to her side. Laura who has macular degeneration cannot see much beyond shadows and light, but looked deeply into his eyes. Howard who has lost a lot of his hearing had to have family repeat things for him.
Howard began to sing their song, ‘You’ll Never Know’, to his wife, and his wife responded, speaking some of the words herself.
It was not uncommon for the two of them to sing this song together, each taking a verse and serenading the other. After fifty years of marriage, they renewed their vows and performed this song as a duet for the entire family at the reception.
After this video became viral, the family said it lifted everyone’s spirits. Including Grandma Laura, who was supposed to have a week to live, but has defied the predictions and is still going, having since gone back home to Howard to be at peace.
Laura and Howard have such a palpable love for each other, it is beautiful to see. Her face is so suffused with affection, it is beautiful.
