Chick-fil-A act of kindness brings national attention to modest restaurateur
Mark Meadows operates the restaurant on Highway 280 in Birmingham and was working the night a homeless man came in seeking warmth during last week’s frigid weather, according to AL.com.
Instead of ushering the man out, Meadows carried on a conversation after the man asked for food in exchange for doing chores.
Andrea Stoker, who at the time was eating lunch with her son at a nearby table, captured the interaction between Meadows and the man on her camera phone.
Meadows not only gave the man a meal but also gave him a pair of gloves. Stoker posted the image to a Chick-fil-A Facebook page, where it has drawn about 80,000 likes.
In response to the attention, Meadows says, “I just did the right thing,” he said. “I’m simply awestruck about all this attention.”
It should be noted that Meadows is no stranger to giving back or making national news.
Last January, he decided to give away over 300 sandwiches to stranded motorists during a snow storm.
In an interview at the time, Meadows downplayed his own actions.
“It made me feel real good, especially with people being so appreciative,” he said. “It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.”
