Remembering D-Day, June 6, 1944

The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France is located on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 and the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. The cemetery site, at the north end of its ½ mile access road, covers 172.5 acres and contains the graves of 9,387 of our military dead, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings and ensuing operations. On the Walls of the Missing in a semicircular garden on the east side of the memorial are inscribed 1,557 names. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt speech on the eve of invasion of Normandy, June 06, 1944. Prevalent today.

On June 6, 1944, a date known ever since as D-Day, a mighty armada crossed a narrow strip of sea from England to Normandy, France, and cracked the Nazi grip on western Europe.

And to have the Baracksheviks there - on sacred ground - disgusts me and fellow patriots to no end. WE hit the most fortified Erwin Rommel beaches at Omaha and Utah, and not to be forgotten, are the MARINES who had D-DAY type island hopping in the Pacific during 1944 to establish airfields so we could strike the heart of the Japanese empire!

Could never imagine the current POTUS doing what these two men did to lead this nation.

FDR in his speech said were fighting to preserve our republic, religion, and civiliazation. He said "Religion"? Didn't FDR realize this was a strict violation of the sepreation of church and state as defined by the ACLU and their members who wear black robes and sit on benches? But the, FDR did have reading comprehension and understood where the Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". FDR knew he wasn't Congress and therefore could say we were a Christian nation.

I hope the schools today still teach about D-Day, the reasons and meaning for the free world of that day. In France it is highly recognized and celebrated..

So very few of those men are still with us and time is growing short before they join their other comrades. Much of the news media is observing these survivors and reporting their stories.

darth - the Army made more amphibious landings in the Pacific than the Marines did.

Patriot Tom, since Army Strong had 8,267,958 soldiers and aircrews on the payroll versus only 474,680 Marines on the payroll in 1945 (full strength capacity), I am sure the Army made more amphibious landings going back to the American Revolution! But the Leathernecks sure did take out the trash in the Pacific theater, that was divided by the Army and Navy / Marines... The CORPS also only had 6 MAR DIV at that time, so, Gunny Dad Vader reminds me there always will be a rivalry between THE FEW, THE PROUD & THE MARINES vs. ARMY STRONG, because this is what freedom is all about come 238-years this 4th of July...
