Obama's Pentagon to Close Military commissaries in cost-saving plan
The Obama administration is looking at closing all US-based commissaries that serve poor military families. The move will not only eliminate the discounted goods but will also result in lost jobs for many military families.
The Pentagon is floating a controversial plan to close all U.S.-based commissaries in 2015 as part of a massive cost-saving effort after more than a decade of war.
The commissaries are grocery stores that offer food and other necessities at a discount to members of the military, their families and veterans. But as Congress tightens the purse strings, the stores could get caught in the budget battle.
Budget cutters say they don’t yet know how much money the plan would save, but there are 178 commissaries in the United States — and 70 overseas — which receive a total of $1.4 billion in government funds.
The Defense Commissary Agency, responsible for administering all commissaries worldwide, says military families and retirees save an average of more than 30 percent on their grocery bills compared with those who shop at regular retail stores. The agency says those savings amount to thousands of dollars annually per family.
But families could also lose jobs if the stores close. Thirty percent of the employees at the commissaries are military spouses. The director of the Defense Commissary Agency says that they have already cut their budget by $700 million since 1993.

Asshole Obama just keeps messing with our military. Something I have got to point out, Obama does all these different things taking things away from our military, remember that meal he took away from our troops that are deployed. But never does he take money away from his beloved Planned Parenthood, that kills innocent babies. He is all for that 1000%;

I'm retired military and today I don't see any benefit for any young man or woman who has anything on the ball for themselves to serve a career in the military. Actually, I now believe enlisting in the military should only be an option of last resort for our young people. With the benefits to service just about gone, Obama's ROE's getting our troops killed overseas, and senior military leadership more concerned with political correctness than taking care of the troops, a young person would be foolish to join. I know...I've been there for a long time and I'm ashamed to say that I cannot recommend today's Armed Forces for any young man or woman.

Air Force Times is reporting the stateside commissaries will close in 2015.

I wonder how many of the military voted for this traitor? I really hope they enjoy there increased food bill when 2015 comes rolling around.
I wonder how those Filipino bagers at the commissary are going to take this? then what are they going to to with the building? Then if they reinstate the commissaries again build a new building at an elevated cost to all the military?
