Electrical workers union jumps aboard anti-Obamacare bus
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is the latest in a string of unions to come out against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.
The group’s launched new ads with several media organizations, including Roll Call and The Hill, expressing dissatisfaction with the health reform and pointing to discrepancies between what President Obama promised — and what he actually delivered.
One ad cites the president’s July 2009 remarks: “If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.”
But the union said that’s not exactly true, The Daily Caller reported. Loopholes in the text of Obamacare are putting in jeopardy IBEW members’ ability to access the same health-care plans they’ve used for 65-plus years.
“[Obamacare] threatens the viability of multi-employer health plans in four ways,” the IBEW said in a statement on Thursday, The Daily Caller reported. “The IBEW cannot afford to sit on the sidelines [as Obamacare] threatens to harm our members by dismantling multi-employer plans.”
And IBEW President Edwin Hill said: “Our members and allied employers have worked hard for the health care they have, and President Obama must move now to guarantee that his signature law will not cost them their coverage.”
Also protesting aspects of Obamacare in recent months: the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and UNITE HERE.
Wild Thing's comment............
Good for them, they join some other Unions that do not want Obamacare.
