Wag The Dog Obama vs. Defense Secretary Robert Gates

Obama versus Gates on Libya

Defense Secretary: Libya Did Not Pose Threat to U.S., Was Not 'Vital National Interest' to Intervene

ABC

On “This Week,” ABC News’ Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper asked Gates, “Do you think Libya posed an actual or imminent threat to the United States?”

“No, no,” Gates said in a joint appearance with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “It was not — it was not a vital national interest to the United States, but it was an interest and it was an interest for all of the reasons Secretary Clinton talked about.

Obama says America has an important strategic interest in Libya.

His speech transcript

"When are interests and values are at stake, we have a responsibility to act. That’s what’s happened in Libya in the course of these last six weeks.”

Wild Thing's comment........

I am glad Gates did not check with obama first to get his talking points. Or maybe he did and just had to be his own man. He has disagreed with the jerk obama before and said what he felt.

No one who cared about their reputation would ever work for Obama. History will not be kind to Gates.

Not that Gadaffi doesn't need killing but I'm with Gates on this one that this military action against Libya has no clear basis on US security interests.

Remember before GW Bush went into Iraq, long before we all were reading about how horrible, vile and evil Saddam Hussein and his two sons were. Real sicko's!!! The rapes, murrders, so many things, all sicker then the next. That could have been called a humanitarian mission among the other things it was about, BUT sure as heck obama's wag the dog war is NOT a humanitarian mission.

Maine Republican William Cohen served as Secretary of Defense under Bill Clinton.

It's one of those only in America phenomenon we Americans take for granted compared to the rest of the world where the President of a country places as head of the military a member of the opposing party.

This speaks volumes.

Again as in the case of Robert Gates, Democrats are so anti military and ill prepared to govern they often can't find one of their own with the capacity to serve as Secretary of Defense.

Power Was Instrumental In Persuading Obama To Authorize Military Intervention In Libya”: Who Is Samantha Power?

Wife of Cass Sunstein, for one. The rest is even uglier. Substantial intel has it that she, Valerie Jarrett and Michelle Obama pushed Rahm Emanuel out of the White House because he stood in the way of their plans to take down Israel. And that she is a key player in the Obama’s secret relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, which is not only old and deep, but led to the Brotherhood becoming a key financial player in Barack’s election to the presidency.

I believe the reason obama got us involved in Libya was to try to show that he is macho. Super FAIL! Of course, it also helps his muslim Brotherhood pals.

There were two more too, Gator, Hillary and Susan Rice, aka the Valkyrie Sisters. Who talked the usurper into this mess. The MB and obama are going to or attempt to destroy Israel, this is the only possible reason for this. Soon the whole Middle East will be a hotbed of Islamic Jihad, and Israel will be their first Target.

Eddie, yes it is getting too hard to stand it more and more, each day too many things. He has to mess with good things and turn them into bad every single day.

Tom, yes, he saw the leadership Bush had, and there is an election ocming up and his ratings are way down. You are right too, he does want to help his Muslim brotherhood.
