Bomb Threat At Location of Scott Walker News Conference
On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, Eau Claire Police arrested Patrick James Knauf, on suspicion of threatening a bomb scare. Knauf is alleged to have called Heartland Aviation, a private business on the grounds of the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, and told the receptionist that he was "going to bomb that place tonight."
Following the arrest, the Chippewa County District Attorney's Office was presented with results of a preliminary investigation. The investigation, however, is dynamic and on-going. On Thursday March 3, 2011, Eau Claire Police detectives executed a search warrant on the residence of Patrick James Knauf. Further, investigators are examining telephone records, and conducting follow up interviews.
Currently, the investigation reveals that Patrick James Knauf participated in a public demonstration at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport on Monday, February 28, 2011 and / or Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Individuals with information about Patrick James Knauf's statements or conduct at those demonstrations, are asked to contact the Eau Claire Police Department's confidential tipster line at (715) 839-4982.
Pending a final charging decision, Patrick James Knauf has been released on a $3000 signature bond; and ordered to have no contact with Heartland Aviation, nor the owners of Heartland Aviation, Larry and Jeff Husby. Knauf is scheduled to return to court on April 19, 2011.
Police reports show Knauf is a day trader, but it's unclear whether he's self-employed or if he works for someone.
Governor Walker has held press conferences at Heartland Aviation twice this week, including one on Wednesday around noon.
This case is considered an active investigation; therefore information being released is limited at this time.
