The First Marine Regiment was Chesty's Regiment. I can't imagine him acceptint this without a fight. Before that, Truman had the bright idea to disband the Marine Corps. General A.A. Vandegrift was called to testify, about why they should not ban the Marine Corps. He told them, " The bended knee is not a tradition of the Corps". and refused to say another word.
