EPA Law Effective April, Home Repairs May Have To Be Put On Hold
Home-owners may find themselves unable to complete home repairs or re models after April 22nd.
A New law that requires Contractors repairing or painting homes made before 1978 or facilities occupied by children comes into effect on April 22, 2010.
The law requires that contractors be certified and trained in lead-safe work practices. The EPA began processing applications on October 22, 2009 for the ruling originally issued by the EPA on April 22, 2008.
Contractors must also provide owners, tenants, and child-care facilities with a copy of EPA's lead hazard information pamphlet.
Contractors who fail to comply face large fines.
It may be hard to find a qualified remodeler due to a shortage of accredited trainers if the ruling goes into effect as planned according to The National Association of Home Builders.
More information can be found on the EPA's website or The National Association of Homebuilders website
.
Wild Thing's comment..................
What if you choose to repair it yourself? No contractor. Just a trip to Home Depot or Lowe's for materials.
Everything is being done to kill law abiding legitimate business. The commies are in charge.
"You can’t just hire a contractor, no no, it must be an “EPA approved” contractor. But wait, it gets better. Since they don’t have enough “accredited trainers” to train all these contractors, your project may just have to wait.“
I bet the new “accredited trainers” and new-to-contracting workers are unemployed ACORN workers...that get Federal hiring priority.
Look at this EPA link:

I've heard that the lead poisoning came from children eating the paint off the walls. Who eats paint of any kind Latex or oil based will make you sick as a dog. But what parent would let their kid eat chipped paint ? So the nanny state decided to take away some parenting skills from the less fortunate, the ones who need the "Wealth Redistribution". Again the Masses are Asses.
Of coures these new paints don't last as long as the paints used 40-50 years ago either. As I recall the paint wasn't so much a Lead based but the lead was added as a vehicle to aid application. In our neighborhood one year a bunch of neighbors decided to hire the local painter to do their houses. These were all old Victorians and required a lot of paint. And in that neighborhood there were a lot of children all War babies and Boomers. When the houses were all finished the colors were just beautiful, and paint had a nice clean sheen, due to the lead, also the lead acted as a preservative to the wood. And most important of all not one kid was harmed by the lead used in the paint then or now.
When this lead scare came out in the 60's, it was designed to scare the hell out of parents and it did. But then as today it was all started to take control of personal lives and responsibility. Now with the intrusive behemouth EPA, Federal government, and all of their bureaucratic idiots meddling in everybodys affairs it will be a cold day in hell when this country ever does anything on its own inititive.
As can be seen with the ramming of Health Care we are turning into a bunch of whimps who can't get out of bed without the help of the government, at least that's what obama tells us. But what does the government do when there is no one left to Tax and their cash cow dies. Then comes the move from socialism to fascism or communism the final blow, their ultimate goal.

Yes, this is just another step to have our daily lives controlled by govt. Just like the low flush toilets. Damn, I hate all the socialistic nonsense. I wish Big Brother would let us make our own successes or mistakes.

To take this a step further, if you are a landlord, it may put you out of business. In order to rent your property, it would have to pass an EPA audit for lead. I'm speculating here. Either pay an enormous sum for lead paint removal or you can't rent the property. More wealth redistribution?

Mark, I have heard that too about kids eating paint off the walls. Thanks for that about the paint, I agree Mark.
Tom, your right, they really want to control all of us. I hate this so much,if they tell me I have to live in a cold house or a hot house in the summer I will really be in trouble, I won't do what they say.
Jim, good point, this is going to effect them big time too.
