Obama and Plummeting Military Morale
New Army surveys, reports the Wall Street Journal, show that morale has fallen sharply among soldiers fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan and confirm an unusually high suicide in their ranks.
Perhaps this has something to do with doubts about their commander-in-chief's commitment to win this war by standing staunchly with them in spirit and providing the necessary troop levels and other resources. With fatalities and injuries surging among them, the president's prolonged and frazzled indecision on how to wage this struggle must leave these soldiers with a sense of being cast adrift in limbo, if not hell itself. Having first, very belatedly, consulted directly on strategy with the man in charge of the war, General Stanley McChrystal, President Obama then proceeded for months to pore over, appear to accept, throw out, and then start all over examining, various options.
In an act of deep interpersonal significance, as Claudia Rosett observes, the president has not bothered to pay a visit to Afghanistan to bolster morale. Yet, to buck up his foreign policy credentials, he managed to make a campaign stop there while running for president. Once elected, he found time to extend a friendly hand to Muslims in Cairo, lobby for Chicago's Olympics bid, vacation in Martha's Vineyard, and have a "date night" in New York City with his wife. Soon he'll be off to Oslo to accept a Nobel Peace Prize, which he has done nothing yet to deserve, in Afghanistan, at home, or elsewhere in the world.
It could also have not done much to fortify our soldiers to learn of the president's obfuscations and omissions in his recent Fort Hood tribute to their slaughtered 13 comrades. He could not bring himself, as Michael Goodwin and others noted, to call the massacre what it clearly was: treason and terrorism, visited by an Army officer on his defenseless comrades. While failing to acknowledge that Nidal Malik Hasan had shouted, "Al lahu akbar" (God is great) as he fired his weapons, the president also commented, "No just and loving God looks upon them with favor." The president declared the nation to be "in a time of war," but then downgraded the killings to the level of a mere "tragedy." He alluded to 9/11, warning that "the same extremists who killed nearly 3,000 Americans continue to endanger America," but neglected to say that the same militant Islamism led to the recent slaughter. He was silent about the shooter's contacts with al Qaeda, but stated, "No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts."
Rosett urges the president to betake himself without further delay to Afghanistan and deliver "a soaring speech" to our troops, such as to "display for their benefit and the world's, that as commander-in-chief of these men and women who are risking their lives under his command, he is not AWOL."
But one wonders just how soaring such a message could possibly be, coming from one who cannot muster the leadership to decide how, and indeed if at all, to proceed on their battleground. So geared to mollify his leftist political base has this president's every action seemed so far in his tenure that our courageous soldiers have every reason to fear themselves but chess pieces in his long game of political calculation.
Can the hearts of our troops yet be touched by a commander-in-chief who has for so long failed to show his face, and left them alone, on the battleground? By now they, like many among us, must acknowledge that this is the same commander-in-chief who, during his bid for the presidency cynically - then, too, for rank political reasons -- trumpeted the war in Afghanistan to be the most "necessary" one in the fight against terrorism.
But, above all, the drag that this president exerts on our soldiers comes from his unwillingness even forthrightly to name the enemy with whom they are locked in deadly combat.
If President Obama's lack of leadership and alienation from our troops continue, he may go down in history as America's great demoralizer-in-chief. But, vastly more momentous than his place in history, his failure to lead this nation, and the world, during these hazardous times may well precipitate a series of crises that will plague us for generations.

Obama visit the troops overseas? Are you flippin' mad? He has heard the scary shit about how Hillary had to dodge all that sniper fire when she visited the troops in Bosnia. Hell, she could hardly compose herself to look good for her press. Those snipers were so close, like only 5 or 6 miles away. You expect barack HIMSELF obummer to stoop so low as to actually seem to appreciate the troops? What you been smokin' lady? He loves himself, and himself alone. And besides, in Afghanistan who could he bow too? The Taliban leader? No... If that dude showed up, some mean Army RANGER would shoot him and barack HIMSELF obummer would be denied the photo op. He can't see no reason to go to no stinkin mountain country full of caves of bad guys n all. What good would a visit overseas do if he can't bow down to someone who is lesser than a real American president? Besides, he knows that there are no good level golf courses over there.
Sheesh, Wild Thing; it's like you expect him to actually act presidential and all. Ya gotta give the guy a break, this is the closest he has ever come to having you know, an actual job.

The military doesn't like him. He stands against everything meaningful to them. He can't even make a decision on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. What about all the soldiers who are tired, worn out and need some R & R? We need replacements. We need backups. The powers that be on the ground know what they need and he needs to give it. We need more Hal Moores and Stormin' Normans to kick some butt. Whatever happened to men like William Tecumseh Sherman? Those guys with balls enough to give the city of Savannah to the President as a Christmas present?

It might be a bit dangerous for obama to visit his troops. The Americans might find out and launch a raid or a Hellfire from a Predator.
Huh? What? Oh, you mean he should visit the American troops. Crazy me! I thought you meant he should visit the muzzie troops, the Taliban.
In Vietnam LBJ was not revered by most of the troops. We had nicknames for him that were demeaning. This was in 67-68. It was a tough counter insurgency we were fighting and a lot of us thought we should go into North Vietnam and take the war there. Even so, we thought we were winning in those years.
I can only imagine what the troops in Afghanistan, many on a second or third, tour are thinking. They have a president who is anti American, indecisive and seemingly uncaring about them. They have to be wondering if their sacrifices and the loss of buddies is worth it. I imagine this has to be like Vietnam in 69-71 when the troops knew we were not there to actually win.
Most of those troops knew they only had to get through one tour and they could quit the military. Today's all volunteer force will have ?? deployments ahead if they want to maintain a career in the miltary. They must be wondering if they only have 3 more years of obama or 7 more years.

My former US Air Force aerial port squadron patriots tell me that some of the returning HRs
(human remains) that come to Dover AFB from Iraq and Afghanistan were NOT duty casualties... I'd like to know how many suicides were actualities and realities and kept from the media from 2002 tp 2009.

They are going to like him a whole lot less as he desperately tries to DOWNPLAY Major Hassan's role in the Fort Hood Massacre. It won't be an act of terrorism, or an act of a committed Islamist. It will be a 'tragic' case of PTSS, the poor man was victimised by staff, ect, ect. Chrissie posted Allan Wests website and I went there - at least some brave souls have the guts to TELL the truth......but it won't be Obama and Co......and your troops should bear witness to that insidious PC culture that is infesting your body politic, and the nation. It's a tragic thing to witness........the downfall of the West by our own hand!

In the past, this writer has repeatedly handled themes related to political correctness. This was done to depict it as an idiocy that survives because so many of us are too foolish or cowardly to defy it. No wonder, the unmasked doubters of PC are quickly tagged as “bad human beings”. Now, we find out that that the killer’s associates had suspicions regarding the Ft. Hood murderer.
These reservations concerning his political reliability and commitment were shared by the Major’s superiors. No one dared to undertake anything to deal with the problem that signaled itself through Hasan’s statements and his behavior. It was not the amount and the weight of the evidence that held back the concerned. It was that no one wished to jeopardize his career.
Everybody stood in danger of being labeled a “racist” for speaking up and for stating what in PC terms was not supposed to exist at all. Such as that Hasan rated what he considered to be Islam’s command, more highly than his sworn duty to America. The conclusion: PC is at its best stupid in its motives and ridiculous in their outcome. The case at hand demonstrates that PC also kills. Not only in Texas.

But, they made the troops come out and applaud his excellency when AF-1 was refueling in Alaska. Yep, they were all applauding. I guess the only way they can get the troops to applaud or turn out for this commie muslim puke is to put LSD in their water 3 hours prior to his arrival.
I so hate this bastard and what he is doing to our country.
