Wynn criticizes Obama on Sunday morning news show
Wynn Resorts Ltd. Chairman Steve Wynn participated in a roundtable discussion on Fox News Sunday this morning, discussing the state of the economy with host Chris Wallace.
Wynn, fresh off his successful initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, criticized President Barack Obama administration’s handling of the economy. Wallace introduced Wynn by saying Nevada’s current unemployment rate, 13.2 percent, was second highest in the nation.
“The priorities of the administration should have been focused on jobs from the inauguration forward,” Wynn said. “People would have had a positive outlook toward tomorrow when they have a job. The priority should have been job creation.”
Wynn, who opened the $2.3 billion Encore at Wynn Las Vegas last December, said he hired 5,000 employees for the resort.
“My return on investment hasn’t been that great,” Wynn said.
But he is fearful that current economic debate in Congress is more harmful than helpful.
“It’s counter productive,” Wynn said.
Also taking part in the discussion were Democratic Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Republican Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody’s, who has advised Republicans and Democrats.
Wynn took issue with some of Zandi comments. At one point Wynn said, “the economists had their moment.” He also sparred with Granholm, over the role of government.
“Government never increased the standard of living of a single human in history,” Wynn said. “How do you increase someone’s standard of living? Give them a job.”
Most of Wynn’s criticism, however, was directed at Obama, whose election was publicly supported by his soon-to-be ex-wife Elaine Wynn.
“Consumer confidence will return when the unemployment rate goes down,” Wynn said. ”Soaring speeches, with or without a teleprompter, are not issue. Government has never created a job or their standard of living.”
Granholm, however, jumped in, citing the creation of the minimum wage that has helped millions of workers.
Wynn countered by saying the health care debate has confused the matter and delayed any economic fix. He said he employs 20,000 and has provided insurance coverage for 150,000 families in his career.
“Healthcare is something I know about,” Wynn said. “It’s a complicated and technical issue. Everybody in this administration has zero experience in dealing with healthcare. They should be focused on job creation.”
Daniels sided with Wynn on several points and Wallace allowed the casino operator the final word in the debate.
“We need to focus on the simple truths,” Wynn said. “Simple truths hold institutions together. We have lost our focus.”

WALLACE: Steve Wynn, where do you draw the line between the proper role of government in all of this and the proper role of the private sector?
WYNN: Government has never increased the standard of living of one single human being in civilization’s history. For some reason, that simple truth has evaded everybody.
The only thing that creates an increased standard of living is giving someone a job, the demand for their labor, whether it’s you and I, Chris, or anybody else.
The people that are paying the price for this juggernaut of federal spending are the middle class and the working class of America. And soaring rhetoric and great speeches, with or without a Teleprompter, aren’t going to change the truth. And the truth is the biggest enemy, the biggest obstacle, that working middle class America has is government spending.
WYNN: OK. That’s my point, Governor. I’m not making any other point. And believe me, ma’am, I’ve got 20,000 employees. I’ve had as many as 150,000 families that I’ve been self-insuring. There’s nothing simplistic about my approach to this problem.
WYNN: Well, health care, something I know about, is a complicated technical issue for which practically everybody in this administration has absolutely zero experience. It was not a priority.
Job creation was the priority from the day that this president was inaugurated. It has been eclipsed by a technical, confusing conversation in which hardly anybody has read the small print on a thing called health care.

Steve Wynn really has his head screwed on straight. Know and clearly states government doesn't not create wealth and private sector does not belong to the government. He was Awesome!!
Granholm comes unglued defending government and mistates his position.
Then Wynn keeps kicking liberal butts. He said he has never laid anyone off, but if Pelosi and the Dems have their way, he and many other employers will have to do layoffs because of all the taxes. He also said he was grateful to have casinos in China in order to generate foreign currency.
Granholm's posture has gone completely hostile. She is still speaking in a composed manner, but you can tell she's mad about getting outclassed by Wynn.

Wynn gets the last word. Calmly declares that private sector job creaion is what will build cars, and that government understands none of that. Calls it a simple truth.

Steve Wynn, since I think she was responding to some of your comments, you get the last word.
WYNN: Punishing attitude -- take it to the government, we know what's best. I don't think they do. I think these are complicated subjects. Job creation, the chance to build more cars, comes from people having a job. Focus on that simple truth. Simple truths hold institutions together. We've lost our focus, and that's my opinion.

I have that show set for my DVR on Sunday's repeat on FOX News since I don't watch local networks anymore, and I already knew Wynn kicked her ass because my Twitter lit up like a Christmas tree during the actual live show. The other two panelists were so outmatched, I can't even remember who they are, probably couldn't pick them out of a line up.
I'm still miffed at Wynn for selling Bellagio-Mirage-Treasure Island to MGM because they cheapened them, but he went onto create a beautiful resort complex with Wynn-Encore. From what I read, it's basically a ghost town at Encore even though it's the newest in town, but he's a smart guy, he'll weather through. Meanwhile MGM has made the most stupid business decisions imaginable and are two cents from bankruptcy on any given day.
I think Granholm believes her spin. She has her talking points so rehearsed she probably convinces some libs that she knows how to add two and two, but the state of her state is proof she's an idiot.
I hope they have Wynn on the panel again. He stated it all perfectly.

Wynn is absolutely right. But he overlooks one point. The economy is hurting and unemployment is high for a reason. obama wants it that way so he can then use the govt to "save" these people and the economy. That way more people and more jobs fall under govt. domination. obama intends to destroy capitalism and replace it with socialism/Marxism.

The poor will always be with us -- those who's only skills are sweeping the side walk. Minimum wage make is so expensive to hire them that is is less expensive to build a machine to do it. The poor are probably unqualified to run the machine, let alone invent and built it. Thus the poor be come unenployable and fall into the permenant welfare class. The more advanced the econoamy becomes the larger the permenant welfare class of unskilled people becomes. No minimue wage would least let these unskilled people do something usefull. With today's negative income tax they would get free money at the end of the day. As things are now, minimum wage is useless.

Minimum wage hikes never, never help the general public. The few who do benefit are in a very small minority for most everyone else suffers. The man who buys the burger, the teenager who is not hired because of the increased cost, etc, etc.

He's right. Government only know how to spend money - not generate it. And when they get in the sh*t they flog off public assets to partially solve their massive debt. Here in Oz the Queensland government wants to flog off the state's family jewels, and even the silver. Everything is up for grabs - even the lucerative rail & port assests that carry our coal to global export markets. Those assets were built up with PUBLIC money. They have no right to sell them without a genuine public debate. Every time government goes down this pathe massive job losses and prices hikes follow.
