Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal Given Short Meeting By Obama on Tarmac
Obama Meets Top Afghan Commander as He Mulls Change in War Strategy
President Obama held an unannounced meeting here on Friday with Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, his Afghanistan commander, to discuss a possible change in strategy and a proposed troop buildup in the eight-year-old war.
General McChrystal flew here from London, where he gave a speech on Thursday affirming the need for a military buildup in Afghanistan. He joined Mr. Obama in the forward cabin of Air Force One on the tarmac of the Copenhagen airport for 25 minutes after the president finished his presentation to the International Olympic Committee on behalf of Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Games.
It was the men’s first meeting in person since General McChrystal took over all American and NATO forces on the ground in June. They spoke only once after that, in a videoconference call in August, until this week, when the general joined a video conference with the president to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. Mr. Obama spoke with the general by phone on Wednesday and suggested they meet in Copenhagen.
Wild Thing's comment........
They met for 25 minutes. Glad the President could squeeze in such an important meeting. sheesh Just 25 minutes to discuss the lives of our troops and the plans of what to do.
T-shirt idea ... McCrystal had a T-shirt that said: “I came to Copenhagen and all I got was this T-shirt ... Chicago got squat” ...
.
....Thank you Mark for sending this to me.

I guess this 25-minute meeting is what qualifies this trip as Official Business.

Yeah big deal 25 minutes. obama's a real piece of work. General McChrystal's request has been on obama's desk since August.
The problem is the enemy reads the papers too, and they know all about this and how obama has weakened the ROE's to the point that our troops are nothing more than a glorified under paid Police force.

Hey folks, let's get priorities straight here. The important mission was to get the Olympics to Chicago. Also, to get obama some more international face time. This general guy is just some military fool and, well, you know what we think of the military.
Now the priority is to get obama lined up for some more ar time on the Oprah and Letterman shows.

The left and President Failure are doing all they can to turn this War on Terror into another Vietnam.
The idea of "sacrifice', is so foreign to these people. I am reminded of the words of Col. Jessup in "A Few Good Men", regarding the unwillingness of the detractors having the courage to stand on the wall. It certainly fits here.
This nation, and the troops in the field are being put in great danger by this President. The latest news has a story of 2 soldiers who were killed and another wounded, by an Afghan soldier who was supposed to be guarding them, as they slept. So much for "let's establish cooperation and friendship", with these folks.
It's a long time until Nov. 2012, I hope we as a country survive until then.

Maybe General McChrystal's request is viewed as insubordination by Obama, now that the content has been leaked the TOTUS has to make a decision, I'd venture that those 25 minutes of trip qualification and justification were veiled threats to General McChrystal's future. He was essentially fired in Iraq because he was too aggressive on the ground. Now he has to abide by Obama's love of the muzzies and Gates sophistry that shows in the rules of engagement, winning their hearts and minds, my butt. Mark, I couldn't agree more.

McChrystal: The man who will not be Westmoreland.

Rick, LOL yes I guess that was as long as
obama could stand to be around someone in
the military.

Mark, all true and I hold obama responsible
for the injuries and deaths of our troops
as much as the taliban.

You guys have a problem. Osama spent almost as much time with his General as with the IOC. Give him a break he was doing it for his cronies in Chicago. Be happy to pick up the tab.
Those of you that know me, know it was tounge in cheek. This is disgraceful. Obama should resign from the presidency and return to being a community organizer, a rabble rouser in Chicago. He is not a leader. His spine against those that seek to destroy us is as stiff as a piece of spaghetti freshly taken from a pot of boiling water when finished cooking.
Let's change things in 2010 and finish in 2012, if not before.

SEAN, your so right about that scene with
Col. Jessup and what he said.
Posted by: Wild Thing at October 3, 2009 04:41 PM
Jack, exactly.
Plus they did not even talk that long in the 25 minutes, I mean there would have been the hello,
shake hands, have a seat, want something to drink, coffee, water? Then the conversation.
grrrrrrr
