Obama open to newspaper bailout bill
The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.
"I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them," Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.
Obama said that good journalism is "critical to the health of our democracy," but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting -- especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.
"I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding," he said.

Bailout = are the government taking control of industrial sectors.

Yep, the MSM supported him and now he will put them on the Federal payroll. Of course, that means then that the government controls the content of the newspapers, ala Pravda and Tass. The ignorant media are giving up their freedom.
If people wanted to read the papers those same papers would be flourishing. The broadcast TV stations will be the next turnover, then the cable stations. The radio airwaves are already covered in the proposed Fairness Doctrine rebirth plans.

I could not agree with Jack any more than I do.
If you can't subvert the constitution by arresting anyone telling the trueth the subvert it by making the Govenment's liars riich and powerful. FDR did this by handing out broadcast liscenses to friends of FDR, handing out access to Government agencies and press confrenses and getting prompt Hays office approvals of Movie scripts. This is how they originally built the liberial Media Machine (LMM). (I propose 'LMM' as a new name to replace MSM since they certainly are not "mainstream.")
I have to say that "Eddie" is wrong. Obama does recognize good Journalism and he does not like it one little bit. Given the Liar-in-Chief's ignorance good journalism does smack him in the face daily.

Yes TomR, Tass and Pravda. Hi Avitar Beck calls it the fringe media, but LMM is a very fitting description. Another nail into the coffin of the constitution by Obambi and his gang. It's not hammered in yet. Like TomR says it's because nobody reads the rags.
