Green Groups Open 'climate war room'
Green groups open 'climate war room'
The cap-and-trade movement, spooked by the pounding health care reform took over the August break, is scrambling to persuade nervous Democrats they won’t suffer politically for taking another tough vote this year.
“When you get your butt kicked, like we did [after the House energy vote], it focuses the mind,” said Steve Cochran, director of the Environmental Defense Fund’s National Climate Campaign. “We found out that this is not something to hide from but something to lean on — even in places where coal is king and Blue Dogs were perceived to be running for cover.”
Climate bill supporters say they have spent the summer building precisely the kind of grass-roots network that health care didn’t have, with grass-roots operations in more than 20 states.
A “climate war room” — funded by more than 60 labor, business, faith, agriculture and environmental groups — has been set up to coordinate ad dollars and communications.
Despite the push, White House advisers say privately that they are very reluctant to have lawmakers take another tough vote after health care this fall.
Environmental groups such as the one founded by former Vice President Al Gore know that delay can mean doom in Washington, and that it might be easier to jam cap-and-trade legislation through this fall than to give critics the winter to ridicule it in ads and — perhaps worse — in rowdy town hall meetings.
With this in mind, green groups are briefing congressional leaders and vulnerable lawmakers on a new poll showing that three Democrats in very tough districts did not suffer a backlash for voting for an energy bill that includes a cap-and-trade system to limit carbon dioxide emissions.
Wild Thing's comment......
I vote putting the “Green War Room” someplace they would be comfortable this coming winter....like Siberia.
We have a war room too. More than half the living rooms in America.

I guess they shouldn't have opened their mouths-it's snowing in Wyoming and the higher elevations of Colorado--way too early for snow. The only changes I see are those when Mother Nature goes from one season to the next. She's been doing it a lot longer. People need to quit thinking they can "improve" what God has made.

The trouble is when that cap and trade goes through we in the colder parts of the country are going to be freezing our Arses off.
As I finally realized this is not about Green or any other color just about total control over our lives. We won't be able to crap without permission.

The environmental movement has always been,'Anti-Capitalism'.
The State of California, where I live, has had a version of the Cap and Trade(Tax) Law in effect for a while. All it has done is increase the taxes on energy. As far as the lessening its use, the results are minimal. Not only tha it has been a factor on many businesses & corporatins leaving the State.
Another example of the Environuts in action is the recent shutting off of the water supply to ranchers and farmers in Mo. Cal., so that some fish, that nobody ever heard of, can survive. Meanwhile down the road you produce and meat will be imported from 3rd World Countries, where there are few if any restrictions.
Mkaes sense to me. NOT.

The utter power of priest kings over the ignorant must attract liberals.
The sunspot activity is at near record low levels. Those levels are what the Farmers Alminac use for long range forcasts. The next year will be COLD I think the Tea Parties will spread the word.
Obama and all "Social Justise" programs depend on two things. First they must control the flow of information. That control has been slowly breaking down since the mid-1960's. Second they depend on not running out of other peoples money. Not a problem in the nineteen thirties for the New Deal, only a minor broblem for the "Great Society," Big problem for "Obama Change". They have robbed or coned everybody on earth out of spare capital. There is none left.

The only thing this government should be doing energy wise is allowing the oil and gas guys to "Drill Baby, Drill".
As far as climate goes, Lynn covered that very well. That is Mother Nature's domain. For every hotter summer we have a cooler summer. Likewise with colder and warmer winters. For every drought there is a flood. People have zilch effect on the climate.

I wish the things that you all say could
be read by so many others. People need
to wise up.
