Obama Promises Obamacare With or Without GOP
Obama promises health overhaul with or without GOP
WAKARUSA, Ind.
President Barack Obama said Wednesday he's determined to get an overhaul of the health care system before the end of the year and, if necessary, without bipartisan support.
His comments reflected a growing sense among Democrats that they may have to carry the legislation to expand coverage and try to control medical costs with votes from lawmakers of their own party — or at best a handful of Republicans.
Visiting economically stressed Indiana to announce $2.4 billion in taxpayer grants for electric cars and tens of thousands of jobs, Obama pledged successful conclusion of the health care overhaul that he argues would stabilize the nation's fiscal health.
"I promise you, we will pass reform by the end of this year because the American people need it," the president said.
That will take some doing, since action on legislation in the House and Senate has been slowed by divisive policy arguments. Republican leaders oppose the Democrats' approach, and they're saying Congress should start over. But in an interview after his speech, Obama said he is not wedded to a bill with Republican as well as Democratic support.
"Sometime in September we're going to have to make an assessment" about whether to keep trying to negotiate with Republicans, he told MSNBC.
Wild Thing's comment........
A Civil War officially started when this agitator took office.
Is Obama saying this for the benifit of the dem voters or to let the blue dogs feel they better get on board or else, that he means business. He doesn't have all the dems wanting to vote yes and with these Town hall meetings there is still time to let them know we mean business.

Surely this putz and his padres are about at the end of their absolute reign of terror. They've now gotten the Dems to eat their own. I just can't see how they will pass this health mess and crap and tax seems doomed to lose NEXT YEAR (election year, they aren't going to pass it then either). If he thinks he can do this without consequence, whoa Nellie. Yeah, that'll really help all those worried career Dem politicians worried about 2010 re-election. They will turn on him big time.

2010 Elections is why there is such a hurry to get this done. The old democrat adage that the voters will forget come election time. Election nite we will see how arrogant they still are.

I agree with both Eden and Mark. Lots of Dems and Rinos are already worried about 2010.
obama thinks he is ruling the Republic. No sir, Mr Narcissist. You are SERVING the Republic. You don't proclaim edicts and have them instantly become law. At the rate you are going obama, your majority in Congress will take some hits in 2010.

Eden, putz is right. I don't he can as each
day passes more people get upset with him.
As they should, he lost a lot of people with
his comment about the policeman too.
