U.S. to send military team to Syria
In a sign of improving relations between Washington and Damascus, the United States is sending a military delegation to Syria in the coming weeks to discuss Iraq, U.S. and Syrian officials said on Wednesday.
Separately, the Obama administration's Middle East envoy George Mitchell will go to Damascus, possibly next week, to assess whether the time is right to revive talks between Israel and Syria, a U.S. official said.
The official, who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to speak on the issue, said the diplomatic moves followed a telephone call on Sunday between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem.
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley confirmed Clinton had talked about the possibility of upcoming trips by officials to Syria but said he had nothing to announce. "We want to be engaged with Syria. We want to see what is possible," he said.
Ahmed Salkini, press secretary at Syria's embassy in Washington, said Syria had agreed to host a military team from U.S. Central Command but details still had to be worked out.
Crowley said Iraq was a key issue in talks with Syria. The United States has accused Damascus of letting insurgents use Syrian territory to cross over into Iraq. Syria rejects accusations that it is meddling in Iraq.
"Syria is an important country in the Middle East. It can act constructively if it chooses. At times in the recent past, it has chosen to act less than constructively," he said.
Part of the U.S. strategy in pursuing better relations with Syria is to weaken its ties to Iran, with which Washington is also seeking dialogue despite decades of isolation.
Syria and Iran are the main backers of Hezbollah, a Shi'ite Muslim political and guerrilla group that fought a war against Israel in 2006 and has representatives in the Lebanese government and parliament.
The United States has also been putting pressure on Syria not to interfere in this weekend's election in neighboring Lebanon, where Hezbollah and its Christian allies are expected to gain a slim advantage.
The Obama administration is eager to get indirect Syria-Israel talks back on track after they were suspended following Israel's three-week offensive in the Gaza Strip that ended in mid-January.

Is this a way to warn Israel not to fly over Syrian, to attack Iran? Israel is SO screwed!
If I wasn’t watching all this, I wouldn’t believe it. I mean I seriously wouldn’t even buy it for a bad Hollywood movie.
I still say I feel like I’m walking around amongst zombies with some sandwich sign that says “The end is near” and everyone is looking at me as if I’m the crazy one and they can’t see it!!

Next he will be sending people to Iran as trainers. This guy is unbelievable. He is making a big deal out of his "proud" muslim heritage which is an about face of his minimizing it during his campaign. He is dissing Israel to butt kiss the muzzies.

We have experienced a political EMP event. Google that if you don't know what it means. We were occupied by Islam and didn't feel it. It's just that all of a sudden nothing is the same and we can't figure out what happened. If the end is near it's still in the rear view mirror. The end came in January. Nothing will ever work the same again at least not while any of us are alive. I use to think that being 76 years old meant that I wouldn't live long enough to see my grandchildren get out of this hole. Now I think that they won't live long enough, either.
Sorry to be pessimistic but each day brings new insults. Thomas Jefferson said, "Insults unpunished multiply." They do multiply, don't they?
In the late eighties and early nineties when the Trident II's went into the big submarines and they went out to sea my wife and I were proud because we were both Aerospace Engineers and our missiles would keep us safe. Now we have a President who wouldn't call a strike against a Muslim target unless Allah told him to. Boy, were we shortsighted!

These rogues that Obama is treating as allies are not. They dislike the US. They want us destroyed as a free Republic and would only accept America if we were an islamic republic. They are more than happy right now to have obama snub America's traditional allies.
obama is naive. He does not realize that he is destroying a delicate balance in the ME that is going to make it even more dangerous. He also doesn't realize that the muslims are not a unified bunch. They fight amongst themselves and deceieve each other as much as they battle non-muslims. obama is stepping in deep shit and dragging you and me with him.

We are training Hamas, sending aid to the Palestinians, now sending a 'Military Envoy' to Syria. The Syrians have been stabbing us in the back since we went into Iraq.
This is almost like Israel is being completely surrounded by us her former friends. So now we are to make nice to these butchers.
This doesn't bode well for Israel.

I have always believed that saying of his.
Bill Clinton did not respond to attacks
and they kept coming. Bush did respond and
our country was safer. We still had attempts
on our country but they were all stopped
before they happened. Obama will not do this.
He can't even make a statement quickly about
the terrorist attack in Little Rock a few
days ago.He had to wait 3 days and then
hope it was not noticed what he said.
