Obama Drives USA into Socialism While EU Turns Right
Conservatives racing ahead in EU parliament voting
BRUSSELS
Conservatives raced toward victory in some of Europe's largest economies Sunday as initial results and exit polls showed voters punishing left-leaning parties in European parliament elections in France, Germany and elsewhere.
Some right-leaning parties said the results vindicated their reluctance to spend more on company bailouts and fiscal stimulus amid the global economic crisis.
First projections by the European Union showed center-right parties would have the most seats — between 263 and 273 — in the 736-member parliament. Center-left parties were expected to get between 155 to 165 seats.
Right-leaning governments were ahead of the opposition in Germany, France, Italy and Belgium, while conservative opposition parties were leading in Britain and Spain.
Greece was a notable exception, where the governing conservatives were headed for defeat in the wake of corruption scandals and economic woes.
Germany's Social Democrats headed to their worst showing in a nationwide election since World War II. Four months before Germany holds its own national election, the outcome boosted conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel's hopes of ending the tense left-right "grand coalition" that has led the European Union's most populous nation since 2005.
"We are the force that is acting level-headedly and correctly in this financial and economic crisis," said Volker Kauder, the leader of Merkel's party in the German parliament.
France's Interior Ministry said partial results showed the governing conservatives in the lead, with the Socialists in a distant second and the Europe Ecologie environmentalist party a close third.
French Socialists said their defeat signaled a need to rethink left-wing policies if they are to have any hope of unseating President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands and five other EU nations cast ballots over the last three days, while the rest of the 27-nation bloc voted Sunday.
"Tonight is a very difficult evening for Socialists in many nations in Europe," Martin Schulz, the leader of the Socialists in the European Parliament, told party faithful in Brussels via video link from Berlin. "(We will) continue to fight for social democracy in Europe."
Many Socialists ran campaigns that slammed center-right leaders for failing to rein in financial markets and spend enough to stimulate faltering economies.
Graham Watson, leader of the EU's center-right Liberal Democrat grouping, said early results suggested a rejection of the Socialist approach.
"People don't want a return to socialism and that's why the majority here will be a center-right majority," he said.
In Spain, the conservative Popular Party won two more seats than the ruling Socialists — 23 to 21 seats — with over 88 percent of the vote counted.
Exit polls also showed gains for far-right groups and other fringe parties due to record low turnout.
Britain elected its first extreme-right politician to the European Parliament, with the British National Party winning a seat in northern England's Yorkshire and the Humber district.
The far-right party, which does not accept nonwhites as members, was expected to possibly win further seats as more results in Britain were announced.
Lawmakers with Britain's major political parties said the far right's advance was a reflection of anger over immigration issues and the recession that is causing unemployment to soar.
In the Netherlands, Geert Wilders' anti-Islamic party took 17 percent of the country's votes, taking four of 25 seats.

Wild Thing's comment.......
Interesting to note that all of Europe has rejected Socialism as is turnung right. The BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA AND HIS VOTERS are going against the current voting in the EU. European right is more in line with Blue Dog Democrats in the US, maybe even slightly to the right of them on economic and welfare issues.
EUrotopia Socialists and Commies are clearly identified. None of this "progressive" euphemism. Europe is becoming more conservative while we are running up the hammer and cycle flag.
They have had it over there with forty years of socialism. They know they can’t afford it anymore. I hope we don’t have to go through economically what Europe went through before those 52 % of our country that wanted socialism in voting for Obama realize that leftist policies are not for us, like they did.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! It will happen here too. I’m confident we won’t need 40 years to figure out it’s not working.
heh heh All that traveling OBama has done, did he have one state dinner, anywhere??? He is NOT well liked anywhere, we have seen that in all his trips. Even among his Muslim brothehood he is reaching out to trying to find LUV among the beheaders. And Merkel is obviously upset with the radical lefwing lunatic Obama and it showed in her tense response to his visit. And also I bet this is why is why Obama is trying to cram everything down our throats now and why he said if we don’t do healthcare reform now it will never be done.
I love the fact that Merkel and Sarko resisted Obama’s strong push to spend like he was spending.
The real winners in this election are Sarkozy and Merkel, with Berlesconi as well.
The loser is Socialism. Gordon Brown in the UK in particular.
The Republicans need to trumpet this as a failure of the Policies that Obama is pursuing. The Liberals policies have brought rampant unemployment and decline to Europe the GOP meme needs to be we must not let this happen in America stop Obama now before its too late.
The main message of these elections is the historic rejection of Socialism and the Left in almost every country in Europe. We shouldn’t care about the finer points of whether the conservatives in Europe are quite different from the conservatTives in the US. We still need to leverage this message wise.
The bloom is off the Rose. IMO the architect of this defeat was Nicolas Sarkozy, who has systematically co-opted and decimated the Left in France. A great deal of help from Angela Merkel helped as well.

I saw this and wondered "Huh?" Europe is more conservative than America now? That's kind of strange, but looking at who got elected here, I'm not surprised. Europe will always go the opposite of what America is and does. Obama dissed the French PM by not going to the dinner he was invited to. He purposely forgot to invite the Queen of England to Normandy. He's an idiot--get rid of him-I don't want him in my White House any more.

I guess the Europeans got more than a little worried when Obama declared America was a muslim country. LOL. Actually over immigration in Europe has a lot to do with them heading right.
The European nations have also been losing their individual sovereignty and identity as the very socialistic EU grows in power. This could possibly be a backlash to that.
Sarkozy and Merkel could be this decades Reagan and Thatcher on a leasser scale. Meantime, America is mired in the Marxism of Obama, the socialism of Congress and the incompetance of both.

Yeah how bout all them ferners 'lovin' us now ? It seems to me they be movin away, so much for the touchee-feelie bamster and all this free love thrown at the muzzies. That may have woke up the Europeans.
Europe has had it with the muzzie problem and their Free lunch.
This ought to put a kink in obama's Gird.

Does anyone know of a website tracking the calls for a constitutional convention?
I wonder just how much love for Obama there really is in Germany. I know that there are people who get out and demonstrate for him but I wonder if those ate the old east German organizers. His pals seem to loose the elections.

Let's hope the first nail in the coffin of the fascist Obama delivered by a stay in the sale of Chrysler (pushing the secured debt holders which had a contract) to behind organized labor will be upheld by the entire SCOTUS. Let's hope this make believe Hitler wannabe is soon gone.

Lynn, I wish so much I could make that happen.

Tom, I agree, they were such good friends.
I loved when Reagan and Thatcher would
visit they both seemed very comfortable
and as much friends as they were people
that carried the weight of countries in their
hearts.

Mark, yes they had to have gotten sick
and fed up being overrun by Muslims
and their many demands.

Avitar, I have not heard anything about
a constitutional convention.
I am not sure about Germany, my guess
would be the ones that like Obama anywhere
in the world are the same communist,
socialist loving people that we have here
in America.

Bob A., it is the first nail that's for
sure. It is going to take a lot more
bad stuff from Obama though before a lot
more people wake up. They really are so
self involved they are not paying that
much attention.
