Judge Napolitano: Repeal the 17th Amendment For Better Local Representation

Judge Napolitano: Repeal the 17th Amendment For Better Local Representation

Judge Napolitano explains why repealing the 17th Amendment (Direct Election of Senators), which wasn't part of the original Constitution (added by Woodrow Wilson "progressives") will enhance local representation.

.

Wild Thing's comment........

The direct election of Senators removes completely the State's representation in the federal government and has undermined this nation is so many ways its unfathomable.

The House represents the people, the Senate was meant to represent the states, and the Executive branch represented the federal government, and the Supreme Court played referee... now since this ammenment there is no state representation in the federal government!! It is tragic.

The 17th (and 16th) must go if we are ever to restore our constitutional republic. Yes I would be all for this to happen.

Also here is the 16th:

Article I, Section 9: "...No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken..."

Amendment XVI: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

I want an amendment that severely limits Federal elected office. I was going to say Federal elected service, but most of these career politicians serve themselves, not their constituents.

It would be interesting to return to the pre-17th Amendment days, but I wonder if that Amendment may have been passed because of public uproar over insider, good ol' boy abuse in the state capitols. I can see both sides of this argument. Either side depends on the integrity of politicians, which is an oxymoron.

The previous post was great, now it's time to grab a beer. The government is out of whack. It was pointed out on FOX today that the highest taxed states (led by NY) have the largest deficits and are losing the most "millionaires" to low or no tax`states and leaving the burden on the rest of their citizens. Upside down and inside out politicians don't have a clue. Clearly Patterson of NY doesn't see what he is doing (pardon the pun).

If ever there was a document as close to perfect it is the Constitution. Nothing, of course is perfect but the founding fathers thought of everything, except how to stop, corrupt politicians from usurping their, Our document. The Founding Fathers didn't anticipate the greed of the progressives and their want to re invent the country under the guise of 'really helping the Little guy'. Which by the way has never happened but their power has always increased.

At least before the 17th Amendment, ratified 1913, because of the Early 20th century Progressive movement, the legislature of the individual states had control over its Senators, and the sovereignty of the State was preserved. The Senators were not aloof and above the People as they seem to think now. Now we have 100 lose canons down there doing what their party wants not what their State wants and that was the original intent.

Jack, I guess it would be hard to do, but
yes I would really like this one gone.

Tom, me too, what you said "most of
these career politicians serve themselves,
not their constituents."
...that is
what is so huge and wrong with our politicans.

Bob A., hahahaa good pun, but I know
exactly what you mean. NY is unreal with
the taxes there, Nick has some relatives
there and they tell us what things cost.
I sure hope NY calms down with all the
taxes and other states learn from them
as well to stop this insanity.

Mark,HUGE Ditto to that!
"If ever there was a document as close to perfect it is the Constitution"

Chills, yes that is what they are too,
"100 lose canons".

We all thought like the Founding Fathers
when it comes to someone like Obama. No
way would be get as far as he has, that
the citizens would never allow it. They
didn't have the amount of apathy back
then we have today.
