Che-Guevarrios Obama's FDA Battles CHEERIOS
FDA Blasts General Mills Over Cheerios Claim
Cereal Makers Scolded Because Claim Of Lowering Cholesterol 10 Percent In Month Makes It A "Drug"
Company Fires Back: This Is About Language, Not Science
The Food and Drug Administration scolded the makers of Cheerios about the way they promote the cereal's health benefits. The FDA sent a letter of warning to General Mills accusing them of making unauthorized health claims.
Current boxes of Cheerios are touting what the company calls exciting news -- the cereal's ability to help lower cholesterol 10 percent in one month.
According to a letter from the FDA General Mills' advertising violates the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The agency said claims that Cheerios ingredients can lower cholesterol within a certain amount of time, all while providing cancer-fighting and heart-healthy benefits, essentially makes Cheerios "a drug" by their definition. And no drug in this country can be legally marketed without an approved new drug application.
As a certified dietetic nutritionist, Keri Glassman often recommends foods high in soluble fiber for patients looking to lower their cholesterol.
"Because of the oats, because of the soluble fiber in Cheerios, it may help you reduce cholesterol and I think the FDA is still acknowledging that ... I just think they are saying but you can't really say that because you are a food product, not a drug," Glassman said.
"It doesn't change what's in the box," added Michael Zorek of the Upper West Side. "It's healthy no matter what they say."
The FDA gave General Mills 15 days to explain how it will correct the statements on Cheerios boxes.
In a statement issued Tuesday, General Mills said this dispute is over language, not science. The company pointed out that the FDA'a complaint doesn't actually question whether Cheerios can help lower cholesterol levels -- it only talks about how the health benefits are advertised.
Wild Thing's comment.......
Oh good grief!! While they’re at it go after Quaker Oats for their cholesterol lowering claims on oatmeal.
Go get ‘em Obama! Take on those evil rolled oats! They’re destroying America! Cheerios must be stopped!
Next, it’ll be Shredded wheat and Quaker Oats.
Next comes Maypo and Wheaties.
You have been warned, America. No more breakfast cereal for you!
Cheerios is a drug? I’m an addict? LOL, seriously, I have just about met my limit with this BS.
Since their stock is up, I’m assuming that they didn’t donate heavily to Obama. I mean how obvious is that! Cheerios have been around forever and it is only NOW that they are making something out of how they advertise. So they are they are aiming for the big food corporations now????
The FACT is that Oats do lower cholesterol levels. Not if a person has some a few times a year. But if they are consistent with it then it works.

If it was this afternoon that I read this I think I would have gone upstairs to the bathroom puked and come back down and grabbed a beer. As it is, ENOUGH ALL RIGHT ALREADY. This guy is inserting his views into every aspect of our lives and we are rapidly losing what we had, what we always took for granted, our freedom.

Did they ever see a horse with high levels of Cholesterol ? Trial Lawyers must be running out of lawsuits, the FDA is trying to drum up business by bashing Cheerios. Oats is a drug...
Now they want to regulate what we eat. If you have high cholerestrol they give you a 'statin' drug and a diet to follow, and high fiber cereals is part of the diet. In fact my wife and I had to attend classes on lowering Cholesterol and diet is very important. But this is nothing more that bureaucratic bullshit.
The FDA is parsing words to try to get their foot into the Cereal manufacturer and regulate. Now I guess we 'ought' to fear "Big Cereal"
We are the only country in the world that actually counts the number of toilet flushes, then the congress reduces the amount of water available for that flush. Well shit, when you have to eat all this friggin' fiber what do they expect.

They want to control every aspect of our lives! What we can eat, drink, what clothes to buy, where to send our kids to school, what job to have, what house we can have--this is so much facism I just want to throw up.
There isn't enough money to keep everyone on the entitlement train. It wasn't suppose to be a lifestyle.
I don't need governmental intrusion in my life. I can take care of myself. I'm a big girl-a very big girl and quite capable of making my own decisions.

OMG! Cheerios is the enemy?? Whatever will we do?
Nothing - except go out and buy all the damn Cheerios we can.
I think there are much more potentially hazardous things to our health out there than a box of cheerios ~ such as this administration and obamabots.

This is big government. Like Mark pointed out, they even regulate our toilet flushes. That was done by a Democrat from Michigan who was found out not to have a "regulation" toilet himself, surprise??
I've been eating Cheerios since before Obama was born(in Kenya). Guess that makes me a drug user for decades.
The silliness and intrusions into our lives is going to get very, very bad with this bunch of Marxists.

Lynn, you are so right. Obama really
wants to break us, control us and make
every decision for us. Dictator Obama!
