Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House Request
Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”--symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the “IHS” monogram that had previously adorned the stage at Georgetown’s Gaston Hall was still covered up--when the pediment where it had appeared was photographed by CNSNews.com.
“In coordinating the logistical arrangements for yesterday’s event, Georgetown honored the White House staff’s request to cover all of the Georgetown University signage and symbols behind Gaston Hall stage,” Julie Green Bataille, associate vice president for communications at Georgetown, told CNSNews.com.
“The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches,” she added. “Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context.”
Georgetown, which is run by the Jesuit order, is one of the most prestigious Catholic institutions of higher education in the United States.
Roman Catholics traditionally IHS is abbreviation of Latin for In hoc signe, meaning "in this sign" (the cross) will you conquer and prevail. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “St. Ignatius of Loyola adopted the monogram in his seal as general of the Society of Jesus (1541) and thus became the emblem of his institute.” The Society of Jesus is the formal name for the Jesuits.

Shameful-Shameful Shameful, that a Catholic Institution had this abortionist there to begin with, but to deny Christ so he could visit is Shameful. The Jesuits placed IHS on their crosses , it means “In His Service” It is shameful that now the Jesuits at Georgetown and the President of Notre dame appear to be in the service of Obama.
How many ways will catholics be insulted before they stop playing door mat to people who disrespect them by their mere presence? It is sad to see this all happening. It is almost as though Obama is doing just what his Musllim faith teaches, to hate the people of the book. ( the Jews and Christians) He is doing it without cutting off heads but he is showing disrespect to them all the same. Barry Soetoro converted to Islam and became Barrack Hussein Obama.

This is a Catholic, private university. It has no dealings with separation of Church and State. The I stands for Jehovah (God). Shame on the staff member who thought this was a very bad thing. What will they do if he decides to do a speech at Fordham or Notre Dame of Stanford (other Catholic universities)? Cover up touch down Jesus at ND and cover up the candle grotto? He has hired people who have no clue how to do their jobs. All those years as a "community organizer" certainly didn't teach him any skills in human resources, now did it?

IHS=in hoc signo vinces. In, or by, this sign you shall conquer. Obama should not have been on the stage with that sign. It doesn't apply to him but henceforth it is my motto and I am neither a Catholic, nor a Freemason, nor a Knight Templar. I do admire the Templars 'though and have many books about them.
The Tea Parties were a start but we need to find more ways to throw down gauntlets and call the big borrowers out before we have to learn to speak Chinese to get a job.

I should have known what IHS meant but it has been 55 years since my last Religious Instruction class and being a back slidin' Christian I have forgotten most of that.
More importantly Obama's true colors are showing through. Millions of dollars to Hamas, appointment of more moslems, Having the IHS covered up at Georgetown U. Who is he trying to convince that he is not a Christian. In Turkey he made a point of saying, "We are not a christian nation nor a Jewish Nations( I guess he said, also not a moslem Nation)" So what is his point, we are a nation of Atheist ?
Just another indication of how ignorant he really is. The City of Washington DC was laid out and built by 'Free Masons'. George Washington was a Mason and very religious as were most of our founding fathers. Our documents of Independence reflect that. Our monuments reflect that. On the top of the Washington Monument are inscribed the words (Uno Theo). The Tomb of the unknown's inscribed 'known only but to God'
This man is missing important moral character traits, like Honor, integrity and leadership. He does not belong in the White House.

So for someone that claims he believes in Jesus Christ he wants nothing visible that might show or indicate that believe.
Is he that ashamed of his religion? Or is he trying not to offend Muslims (which I think he still is in ways) and other religions? Which in my mind is still being ashamed of your religion! Georgetown University should have just said “no thanks we don’t want you here if we have to cover the reasons and belief the school was founded on for you to give a speech".
Lynn and I had the same thought.... I guess when he goes to my home town, South Bend, IN. Notre Dame going to have to put a BIG tent over the statue that looms there that is several stories high and affectionately know as “Touch Down Jesus”.

Sadly, the Catholic hierarchy have often tended to pander to politics. You can't mix politics and religion very well. I think of Catholic politicians when I say this, like Kennedy, Pelosi and Biden. They are Catholic when convienent, but amoral in their actions.

Your right about the Tea Parties,it was a great
start and it showed all of us we are not alone too,
there are thousands of us that will stand up. I was
so impressed with the turn out. Now we have to
do something else too to keep it going to keep

IHS stands for the first three letters of Jesus in Greek capital letters, hence a shorthand for His name, all Latin interpretations is later piety.

Some people have argued that Obama does not want to use religion to further a political ideology. However, Obama did evoke the Sermon on the Mount, at this Georgetown appearance, to further his economic agenda. Although Obama failed to mention Jesus Christ by name for the Sermon on the Mount.
“There is a parable at the end of the Sermon on the Mount that tells a story of two men…‘the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house…it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock,’” Obama said.
“We cannot rebuild this economy on the same pile of sand,” he added. “We must build our house upon a rock.”
The last statement is particularly ironic since building your house upon a ‘ROCK‘ means to build your house with Christ as the foundation. Obama decided to blot out the real foundation from the timeless parable.
