NRA:The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina
NRA: The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Police Superintendent P. Eddie Compass unleashed a wave of confiscations with these chilling words:
"No one will be able to be armed. We will take all weapons. Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns."
Thousands of firearms were then confiscated from law-abiding gun owners. The police gave no paperwork or receipts for those guns. They just stormed in and seized them.
New Orleans gun owners are showing up at these trailers, with serial numbers of their firearms, expecting Mayor Nagin and his band of anti-gunners to respect the Federal courts.
They are met by stony-eyed bureaucrats who say serial numbers aren't enough—and that gun owners now need PROOF OF PURCHASE of these firearms.
How many of those gun owners do you think had original receipts for those firearms? And even if they did, how many do you think could find those receipts in the wreckage of a hurricane?
Many of these firearms were passed down from father to son, generation to generation. Some are precious heirlooms. Some are collector's pieces won in our wars. And they were all lawfully owned and they must be returned to their owners.

All that old lady did was show them she had a gun to protect herself and her home against criminals and the cops beat the crap out of her. I hope those cops felt proud of themselves. I bet after they left her house, they went "shopping" at a flooded out Wall Mart. Thankfully, Bobby Jindal is running Louisiana now.

They took guns away from the Law Abiding citizens. They never bothered the looters, and other thieves. Then the government left, Police, Mayor and whatever other bureaucrat there was left and these people are defenseless.
Now we got Obama the biggest gun thief of them all and his chief leutenant Holder. I am afraid this is going to happen again.
Why else would he need a civilian Force bigger and better funded than the Military. For the expressed purpose of confiscaction of Liberties and other rights we use to take for granted. Guns will be the first.

This is an example of how fragile our liberties are with government growing at every level. Gun confiscation of law abiding citizens is absolutely unconstitutional. In the New Orleans case, the police were ordered by a court to return the firearms. The guns had not been kept in proper storage and were badly corroded. The police stole a lot of them. I don't know how some of the people were able to prove guns were theirs as they may have lost all paperwork in the flooding.
Police powers have increased too much in recent years. No knock warrants, SWAT teams, etc. I know the drug culture probably is the cause for this, but it seems to have gone too far. I am not anti police, I am pro police. But it seems like the example of the elderly lady being thrown to the ground is just too likely a scenario these days. Conversely, I have to think of the four officers killed in Oakland this week by a career criminal. I am sure that has made police officers all over a bit edgy.

The second of my two oldest, dearest, friends died this morning with a heart attack. Two in three weeks. I'd just as soon join them as live in the world being arranged for us.
Chrissie, I must reiterate what Gen. Tommy Franks said, "Hope is not a strategy." This surely and certainly is going to happen in our country and no amount of letters and calls to Congressmen or hard work for the political party is going to prevent it. Hell, Geithner just stonewalled that wonderful Congresswoman. He can't be touched. He is under the phony Messiah's umbrella, as is Barney.
I know you all get tired of me quoting my heroes but here I go again.
((In one of his early novellas, "Gulf", Robert A. Heinlein has one of his trademarked older-and-wiser characters say to a younger one that "It's the hour of the knife."
...the point made above, that in times of great danger to the whole of Mankind, men of vision and ability must step forward to protect the race, even from itself, strikes your Curmudgeon as beyond all question. It's really only a verbalization of the immanent sense of allegiance to humanity that every decent man carries forever in his chest.))
The last paragraph is from the blog "Eternity Road" by Francis W. Porretto. He devotes about 10 blogs to the theme that the time will come when politicians won't save us. If that time hasn't come, wait a few days. The Hour of the Knife is not far off.

BobF., yes thank God for that. I was so surprised when he won, especially since they voted Nagin back in that shocked me they wanted Nagin back.

Mark, this shocked me, I didn't know they did this and to do it to the good people and not the bad guys. It makes no sense at all.

Tom, yes they really are fragile. I never knew they were this fragile.
