'Mandatory Service' Bill Advances As It Passes In Senate
'Mandatory youth service' bill advances
House version commissions panel to consider 'volunteer' requirement
Congress appears ready to pass an Obama administration plan that could create mandatory public service requirements for all American youth, fulfilling a campaign promise.
The bill, HR 1388: The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, otherwise known as the "GIVE Act," has already passed the House by a vote of 321-105.
On Tuesday, the Senate voted closure on the motion to proceed by a margin of 74-14 in a move that makes its ultimate passage likely.
The bill, promoted by the Obama administration as a means of encouraging America's youth to participate in voluntary community service, has received little scrutiny from Congress or the public.
Yet, a version of the bill in the House proposes to establish a Congressional Commission on Civil Service tasked with determining whether a mandatory service requirement for all young people in America could be developed and implemented, though it is not clear that provision will survive a conference committee.
Moreover, an amendment to the bill introduced by Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., one of the bill's 37 co-sponsors in the House, appears to severely restrict the First Amendment by prohibiting the youth participating in the program from attempting to influence legislation, organize or engage in protests, petitions, boycotts or strikes.
Funds under the bill are designated to be distributed through AmeriCorps, even though AmeriCorps volunteers have a history of being recruited and employed by community programs with an ideological purpose supported by Democratic Party politicians, including Planned Parenthood.
Under terms of the legislation, volunteers recruited into AmeriCorps through the GIVE Act could end up counseling Planned Parenthood clients to recommend and arrange abortions.
It is uncertain whether restrictions will survive into the final legislation that would prohibit GIVE Act participants from being recruited under the program to work in ACORN, a radical community organizing group facing criminal charges in several states for voter fraud.
"The purpose of the bill is to require mandatory community service for all young people in the United States," Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, told WND in a telephone interview.
"The mobilization of the youth to put them into community work environments that are specified in the bill raises questions about who will be teaching the youth and what is deemed appropriate community service," he said.
"It's great young people should do community service, but to have mandatory government-run community service projects may be a different thing," Poe stressed, explaining why he voted against the bill. "It's better if we can encourage young people to volunteer, and when you require something of them you are certainly not volunteering, and to place them only in government-controlled programs concerns me."
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, who also voted against the GIVE Act, expressed to WND his reservations.
"I opposed the bill because it would expand and authorize programs that have been audited and considered ineffective by the Office of Management and Budget, which does not align with the administration's stated plans of encouraging transparency and accountability in all federal programs."
Wild Thing's comment.......
Where are the watchdogs of freedom now that this kind of fascist legislation is about to be passed?
Ironic that America’s first black President reinstates slavery.
The GIVE/SERVE Act Senate version passes, 79-19

"I begin with the young. We older ones are used up. We are rotten to the marrow. We are cowardly and sentimental. We are bearing the burden of a humiliating past, and have in our blood the dull recollection of serfdom and servility. But my magnificent youngsters! Are there any finer ones in the world? Look at these young men and boys! What material! With them, I can make a new world. This is the heroic stage of youth. Out of it will come the creative man, the man-god.
“When an opponent declares, ‘I will not come over to your side,’ I say calmly, ‘Your child belongs to us already…What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing but this new community’.” - Adolf Hitler

At least the Blue ID card in my wallet IS going to exempt me from any of this crap. Whether the obamaroids like it or not. I have already done my service to the Republic. Done. Paid for. Just like a very large number of readers of this blog.
As for your comment there, Bob A. What did you expect from die hard communists?

They have no idea how hard this is going to be to get people to do "mandatory" volunteering! When do I have time? Never. I have my job, my housework, a kid with ear and ankle problems who is constantly at the doctors. What are they going to do-put me in jail for not volunteering at this point in my life and take my kid away? If I had extra time, I would get a second job that pays me something.

According to this NO Body is exempt. It is not voluntary but mandatory.
Did anyone catch the Amendment added by a democrat from california.
"To severely restrict the First Amendment by
prohibiting the youth participating in the
program from attempting to influence
legislation, organize or engage in protests,
petitions, boycotts or strikes."
So much for Congress protecting the Constitution. This completely negates a Youth's right to free speech.
And so much for the Republicans even reading the damn bill or anyone for that matter.
These bastards are contemptable and should be impeached every damn one of them.

This angers me very much. This is the assurance that America becomes a socialist country.
One of my Senators, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, signed on with this. It isn't the first time that she has jumped on a leftist bandwagon. I hope this guarantees her loss in the Texas governors race in two years.
I wonder if the enforcement unit of these "volunters" will be made up of youth with criminal backgrounds.

What is disturbing about this Senate vote is the numbers of RINOs who came out to play. There should have been at least thirty-five Republicans to vote against this Hitler Youth program. Americore has a long history as a Leftist cadre financed by the Federal agencies and used to purge moderates from the Democrat Party. After determining, what the current hard left Congressional leadership is getting out of this bill the remaining question is what is there for anyone else to vote for? Is there a shred of Americanism in voting for this hateful bill?
Arming and training the militia, the body of enfranchised, able-bodied citizens, is part of being an American, it is in the Constitution and is the duty of Congress and the States. Do the congressmen who voted for this bill expect that the youth will be organized into posies and patrol the boarder stopping illegal aliens and drug dealers? Nah, not under Obama! Do they think that the DOD will be brought in to instruct in marksmanship, unarmed combat, civil engineering and other useful skills? Nah, that is not it either. Alternatively, perhaps they plan to use them for Community Organizing, suppressing dissent, filling out absentee ballots for virtual voters and other brown shirt activities? Yup, that's it!

This is what happens when our congress won't read whats in these Bills. I will bet a dollar to a donut not one of those assholes read a single word. All they heard was Service to the country and never got past that first line.
Mandatory Service is against the constitution, regardless what they sugar coat it with it is slavery.
It may come soon the overthrow of this government.

I just can't believe this is happening in America. This is the country that defeated the Nazi's so 68 years later we have our own Hitler ?
I am sorry I posted three times this has me really pissed off. My Mother and parents got here in the early 1920's right before this son of a bitch took over. All our lives until the day she died, we heard the horror stories and how easy it was for Hitler to take over their beloved Germany. She must be spinning in her grave.
"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

Bob A., same here and one even had the nerve to send a thank you for agreeing with him and I had written to tell him NOT to vote yes. I got so angry, I wrote back and told them to take me off their email list.

Glenn Cassel AMH1(AW) USN RET, I sure hope that is what will happen. That they will exempt certain people, they just have to, this is so totally insane.

Lynn, I agree, I don't think they have thought this through at all. If they mean for all of us and we have to not show up at work , then it will effect businesses too. Just so many things. This is beyond stupid and horrible.
Posted by: Wild Thing at March 27, 2009 11:10 PM
Mark, your right, it mean everyone. It is still confusing too how the heck they plan on making this happen. It is living in a nightmare like some other country.

Tom, that is surprising about Kay Bailey Hutchinson. I saw a few others on the list I was surprised about as well.
Mine is not even worth checking he is such a diaappointment. waaaaaa

Avitar, I agree so much. This was a HUGE disapointment. Too many, way too many joining the rino's on this. I have to wonder if they even read it.
Posted by: Wild Thing at March 27, 2009 11:22 PM
Mark, I agree, I just can't believe they read it. They have to know that anything they vote on with Obama as Pres. is going to be something against our country and the Constitution. I am shocked at how many voted for this.

Mar, a HUGE thank you for that poem. I am so glad you psoted it.
