The ban on news media photos was put in place by President George H.W. Bush in 1991 during the Gulf War and upheld by President George W. Bush. It became a political issue in 2004 when unauthorized photos of the caskets appeared on the Web.
Democrats tried to lift the ban that year but were rebuffed by the Republican-controlled Congress. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said at the time that the ban was an attempt to "conceal from the American people the true costs of this war."
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama asked for a review of the policy and Gates recommended Dover ceremonies be treated like funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. Families there decide whether the news media are present.
Does this mean that we are now free to photograph the caskets of.........

This is GREAT, I would love to see this, I mean the funerals of the Code Pink and anti-war freaks , the liberal anti-war dead. I bet their tune would change if a big protest was done at THEIR funerals like the way the horrible so calleed minister Phelps does or tries to do at our military funerals. See how they like it.
Just something simple like maybe serving champaign to celebrate or something.

Scum of the earth. These are the same F'wits that exploited the American war dead from Vietnam after 'their party' sent the troops to their deaths. Are they protesting those butchers who killed innocent men, women and children? Hell no!!! They always get a pass. They are treasonous cowards and Communist sympathisers.
Examples can range from the atrocious butchery by Che Guevera and Fidel Castro's regime, the killing fields of Cambodia and Laos, the slaughters at Hue, through out the Stalinist and Maoist purges of the 20th century.
36,725 civilians assassinated by VC/NVA, 1957-72
2,800 civilians executed and 3,000 missing after Hue was captured by VC/NVA, 1968
400 civilians massacred by USAns in the area of Son My village, incl. 175-200 in My Lai hamlet, 1968
10 years of the bloodiest battles and 400 'atrocities' attributed to Americans, not a peep about their communist buddies who get glowing praise, they blame Americans for all of them , from the Crimea to Afghanistan, especially for the crimes of the Hussein tribe.
Headlines like "Israel's Gaza Atrocities Recall America's Atrocities in Vietnam" , audacious bullshit, someone once said, truth is the first thing to disappear in war, judge for yourself, facts don't lie, only their propagandists do.

Remember a couple of things, we have not had a single repatriation of captured Americans from the Gulf wars. Where is their outrage at the care and custody of Keith Maupin, where is their compassion for Israeli Cpl. Gilad Shalit -- captured by Hamas? Will Comrad Hillary's theft of taxpayer money buy his freedom from Hamas, protect this nation from future or ongoing attacks by muslim fanatics, furthermore does anyone beyond these pages give a shit anymore?

Why does the press need to make a specticle of everything Military, especially when KIA's come home.
The left would have a fit if there were protests of the same magnitude, but our side respects the dead, especially the Military.
When Ted Kennedy sheds his coil we should have a celebration because the media will be all over that one. Of all the brothers the runt of the litter had to survive.

Mark, I agree and guess what, I already have the perfect graphic of a champaign bottle I am going to post when Kennedy passes away. There will be no tears for that man, nor remorse.
