Iran Says Obama's Offer To Talk Shows US Failure
Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has demanded that the US apologise for what he termed "crimes" committed against Iran if it wants a better relationship with Tehran.
Iran says Obama's offer to talk shows US failure
US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday.
"This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.
"Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change," he added.
After nearly three decades of severed ties, Obama said shortly after taking office this month that he is willing to extend a diplomatic hand to Tehran if the Islamic republic is ready to "unclench its fist".
In response, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a fresh tirade against the United States, demanding an apology for its "crimes" against Iran and saying he expected "deep and fundamental" change from Obama.
Iranian politicians frequently refer to the US administration as the "global arrogance", "domineering power" and "Great Satan".
Tensions with the United States have soared over Iran's nuclear drive and Ahmadinejad's vitriolic verbal attacks against Washington's close regional ally Israel.
Former US president George W. Bush refused to hold talks with the Islamic republic -- which he dubbed part of an "axis of evil" -- unless it suspended uranium enrichment, and never took a military option to thwart Tehran's atomic drive off the table.
The new administration of Obama has also refused to rule out any options -- including military strikes -- to stop Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Iran denies any plans to build the bomb and insists its nuclear programme is solely aimed at peaceful ends.
A close aide to Ahmadinejad said Iran will not halt its nuclear activities as demanded by Obama's administration.
"We have no non-peaceful activities to suspend. All our activities are peaceful and under the supervision of the IAEA," Aliakbar Javanfekr told Reuters.
Javanfekr also dismissed UN resolutions demanding Iran suspend uranium enrichment. "We have passed that stage. We have rejected resolutions. Those resolutions were issued under US pressure. We work in the framework of international laws."
Javanfekr also rejected Obama's calls for Iran to "unclench its fist," saying its was "illogical to talk about unclenching fists when Iran is surrounded by American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq."
Referring to the Obama administration's suggestion of direct talks, Javanfekr said, "We are ready for talks with some preconditions ... including ending America's military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan," he said and repeated the demand for an apology.
Earlier Wednesday, Ahmadinejad called for "profound changes" in US foreign policy - including an end to support for Israel and an apology to the Islamic republic for past misdeeds.
Ahmadinejad also urged Washington to withdraw its troops stationed around the world. He said Iran would be closely watching what President Barack Obama's new administration does and would welcome a real shift in the US approach.
Wild Thing's comment............
The failed poicy of the Obama administration. But I thought Obama was going to fix everything? Hello Obama, it looks like the new work on Mt. Rushmore is going to have to be put on hold.
B.Hussein Obama's approach will do more harm to the US image abroad than anything in recent memory. We’ve known for decades that ANY appearance of conciliation with these cultists will be perceived as weakness and a sign of failure.
This is exactly why President Bush would not negotiate with them.

Obamanation is an idiot. You can't talk to extremists. They want to kill us. It would make them so happy and bring such joy to the Muslim world to kill off the big bad giants called America and Israel. And how about them apologizing for what they did in 1979? Wasn't PeeWee Handjob at the front of that too. One of the hostages was from Colorado, near where we lived--Billy Gallegos. I will never forget his name. Who gave Handjob the right to kidnap our men? So who's the bad guy here? It certainly isn't us and we have NOTHING to apologize for. They're still upset about the Crusades! That was a thousand years ago! Get over it!

Obama would be wise to be careful extending his hand to these terrorists, he might get back a stump.

Iran is viewing Obama's willingness to talk as a sign of weakness. The Muslim world only understands and respects strength but Obama is projecting weakness. Iran may have despised George Bush but they feared him, thus respected him.

Obama is going to be just like Carter. Every tinpot dictator in the world is going to take advantage of Obama's naive hippie attitude of "joy to the world". I just hope that this unrealistic world view doesn't cost us American lives.

Barack Obama's groveling to the radical Islamic world is a sign of weakness and a failure of the country that he represents. That is the image that the United States chose for itself when on November 4, 2008 it elected this appeaser to terrorists as it's President and CIC.

After all of Obamas talk in the early primaries , delivered in that smarmy, morally superior way of the liberal, about being willing to talk to our enemies without preconditions, the first time he extends the apologist hand of friendship, Achmadabbado smacks it away and says Iran won't talk to America without PRECONDITIONS! A slap in the face to an appeaser they consider a weakling. A public humiliation broadcast to the world. Violent people only understand strength, anything less to them is weakness. Will the liberals ever see the world as it really is, or will they get us all killed for their make believe reality?

This is so flipping funny and at the same time extremely scary!!!!
"O" was the one that said he would meet with any of these dictators with NO PRECONDITIONS!! So what does Iran do? REQUIRE PRECONDITIONS!!! "O" is so stupid he couldn't wipe his butt without a flashlight and a set of instructions (probably bilingual)!!!
BobF is right....radicals only understand brute force.....not pansy butts!!!! If "O" continues his 4 years like this, we will have a war like no others before he is through.
I just hope and pray that we don't turn our backs on Israel!!! What a huge mistake that will be!!!! Yes Les.........God Help US!!!!!!!!
