Obama Sends Bust of Winston Churchill Back to Britain
I looked at the bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein of Churchill and it does not come across that great in photos online. So I am putting this photo here instead.
Barack Obama sends bust of Winston Churchill on its way back to Britain
A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government's art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.
The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush's tenure.
But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks.
American politicians have made quoting Churchill, whose mother was American, something of an art form, but not Mr Obama, who prefers to cite the words and works of his hero Abraham Lincoln. Indeed a bust of Mr Lincoln now sits in the Oval Office where Epstein's Churchill once ruled the roost.
Churchill has less happy connotations for Mr Obama than those American politicians who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill's second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion.
Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather.
The rejection of the bust has left some British officials nervously reading the runes to see how much influence the UK can wield with the new regime in Washington.
British Embassy spokesman said:
"The bust of Sir Winston Churchill by Sir Jacob Epstein was uniquely lent to a foreign head of state, President George W Bush, from the Government Art Collection in the wake of 9/11 as a signal of the strong transatlantic relationship.
"It was lent for the first term of office of President Bush. When the President was elected for his second and final term, the loan was extended until January 2009.
"The new President has decided not to continue this loan and the bust has now been returned. It is on display at the Ambassador's Residence."

I suspect Winston would be quite relieved to be out of there, but that doesn’t excuse the inexcusable action of Obama.

It seems Hussein's angry that Churchill acted against his grandfather . Mau Mau rebellion was not a pretty thing, and Obama's grandfather was a Communist terrorist. Odinga takes after him, incidentally. This is what happens when we elect an African to the WH.
I wonder if he will replace Churchill’s bust with a bust of Mugabe!!
Barack Hussein Obama is something that Sir Winston occasionally had to scrape off of his shoes.

And guess who became president of the U.S. that started the Civil War??? Hint: His initials are A.L.!!!! Race always seems to be an issue. That's why South Carolina left the Union!!!! Rather ironic isn't it?!?!?!
I can see another Civil War/Revolution building under "O"'s reign and it isn't going to be pretty. All the while other power hungry countries standing by, helping where they can for their "Guy" and waiting anxiously to split up the spoils of war......the United States of America!!!!

Winston admired the U.S. Marines so much that he knew the first two stanza's of the U.S. Marine Corps Hymn! The U.S and Royal Marines love their white Bull Dog mascots too. How about a bust of Karl Marx or Vlad Lenin in BRO BHO's office?

Anyone who takes a serious look at the post-colonial status of former Euro colonies (except for the French, who tyrannized and raped everywhere they went) will wonder whether independence really helped anybody. India might be the exception.

Interesting how Lincoln is Obama's hero. Lincoln tore this nation apart and they led a war to put it back together.

Lincoln tore not just this nation apart but also the rule of Law. He began the tradition of trashing the inconvenient parts of the constitution by disregarding the ninth and tenth amendments. His advocacy of the Mexican cause over the Texans in the Mexican-American war did not endear him to the Texans or anyone else west of the Mississippi.
He never had a Quorum in Congress, he kept a hideous death camp near Chicago so bad that Chicago rioted and had to be occupied by troops. He invented the Executive Order, he won his Supreme Court decisions by a hundred armed men standing around fingering their guns in the Justices' chambers and we now know because of modern forensic science that he unquestionably ordered the assassination of the Southern Leaders.
Overall, it does no credit to Obama that he admires Lincoln most.

Very astute, Avitar. I never realized that either. It is not what I learned in school. And I haven't been in school in 47 years. Its no wonder the democrats love Lincoln. He opposed the Mexican War.
But back to obama sending back Sir Winston. Anything to do with Liberty and feedom is an abomination to King George, Curious George that is.

Actually, considering that the British goverhment these days is pretty much doing everything it can to encourage Islamofacism (see: banning Geert Wilders from the country), I would think that Obama will consider them a valuable ally. However, he does need to get that Churchill bust swapped out for one of Neil Kinnock.
