President-elect Barack Obama warned of dire and long-lasting consequences if Congress doesn't pump unprecedented dollars into the national economy, making an urgent pitch Thursday for his mammoth spending proposal in his first speech since the election.

"In short, a bad situation could become dramatically worse" if Washington doesn't go far enough to address the spreading crisis, the Democrat said as fresh economic reports showed an outlook growing increasingly grim.
Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy - where a lack of spending leads to lost jobs which leads to even less spending; where an inability to lend and borrow stops growth and leads to even less credit.
We cannot have a solid recovery if our people and our businesses don't have confidence that we're getting our fiscal house in order. That's why our goal is not to create a slew of new government programs, but a foundation for long-term economic growth.
Pelosi Urges Obama to Raise Taxes on Wealthy This Year
Nancy Pelosi is already proposing tax hikes on "rich" Americans to go with Obama's handouts to those who pay none:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is urging the incoming Obama administration to stick to its campaign pledge and immediately increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans, a position that President-elect Barack Obama has wavered on since winning election.
Pelosi told reporters today that she "couldn't be more clear" in opposing some Obama advisers' wish to wait for the tax cuts on the highest income earners to expire in two years, as they are set to do under current law. "Put me down as clearly as you possibly can as one who wants to have those tax cuts for the wealthiest in America repealed," she said.
Pelosi said the income tax cuts to the highest earning Americans -- which were decreased from 39.6 to 35 percent as part of the 2001 Bush tax plan -- have been "the biggest contributor to the budget deficit," which now stands at $1.2 trillion for fiscal year 2009. That deficit figure does not include the impact of the pending stimulus measure, which will cost around $800 billion, nor does it include estimates for supplemental spending bills that will come later this year to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama is full of it big time. The last thing we need to do is spend more money, have more government programs. Like Rush Limbaugh said ..... :" we are so screwed! ".

You can't go printing money willy-nilly without something to back it up! Money doesn't always solve the immediate problem at hand and it's stupid to just think that money and the government are the solution every time there's some kind of crisis or catastrophe in our lives.
Taxing the wealthy will only create more of a mess. They create the jobs and if they have to pay more in, well, they won't do it.
Did someone flunk Economics 101?
Obamanation is showing his immature views on being President. He has no clue and he's in way over his head and he knows it. We're in for a very long 4 years (if he even makes it that far!)
What is he gonna do when the wealthy have to cut so many jobs that the government can't support them all, even with the jobs corps he's looking at creating? What's he gonna do with those who are disabled in some way from doing manual labor? He's a stupid village idiot and God Help us All!!!

I agree. The answer is a cut in government employees and a permanent decrease in taxes and government spending. If prices can reflect lower tax rates then even the poor will benefit. The first beneficiaries of B. Hussein's stimulation will be a wave of new government incompetent, overpaid job for life employees.

Here comes a repeat of the Carter years. Government spending is the cause of the deficit, so we will have more government spending. The monkey chasing his tail.
Obama and Pelosi will break the back of our economy. They must have taken the same economics correspondence course that Hugo Chavez took.

It took time for Bush to contribute to the national economic disaster with his deficit spending and the TARP. Now, we have Obama even before the inauguration turning the country into one big Socialist nation. As the saying goes, the bigger they are the harder they fall.
