Democrat at Heart Colin Powell Lashes Out at Rush Limbaugh
Rush visiting the troops......they love him
Rush Limbaugh is the passion of conservatism, the very pulse, bounding through the veins of the nation. He produces life with every heartbeat of his show as he scoffs at liberals and gives us his interpretation of conservative truth. His brand of ideology shakes the very foundations of liberalism.
He follows in the footsteps of giants, such as George Washington, Thomas Paine, and Ronald Reagan, promoting the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He broadcasts affectionately trying to steer growing government towards the ideals of the Constitution.
He believes that Americans with limited government are better Americans. He believes that Americans shouldn’t murder babies in the womb. He believes that tax cuts are good for the economy. And finally, he believes safe Americans living free are the best Americans of all.

Colin Powell Lashes Out at Rush Limbaugh
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell blames Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio for Republican electoral woes in a CNN interview to be broadcast this weekend.
"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" Powell said, according to a transcript of the interview on the “Fareed Zakaria GPS” show CNN released.
"Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?" Powell said.
Powell told Zakaria that he still considers himself a Republican but said his party should quit listening to Limbaugh for advice. Instead, it needs to look more to minority groups if it wants to win elections in the 21st century.
The week before the presidential election, Powell crossed party lines to endorse Barack Obama during an appearance on NBC’s "Meet the Press."
During the appearance, Powell, the first African-American to hold the secretary of state position, made it clear that race had not played a role in his decision to back Obama. His support, he said, arose from Obama's "ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America."
Ironically, conservatives like Limbaugh had strongly opposed John McCain during his presidential campaign, while Powell donated $2,300 to McCain during his primary effort.
"I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country," Powell said. "I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I've talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that."
"There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views — I don't object to that,” Powell said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday. “But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in this country will be the minority."
Wild Thing's comment..........
Hey Colin, here’s a newsflash for you, NO ONE GIVES A DAMN WHAT YOU THINK! Powell isn’t worthy to even speak of Rush Limbaugh. Colin Powell is NOT a republican he is an enemy of the republican party.
Another idiot that thinks taking on Rush is a good thing (remember Senator Reid’s attempt). LOL
For someone who has been involved exstensively with the Military, he ought to know that stabbing Rush is also attacking the Military... they LOVE HIM!!!
Powell is an 4 star opportunistic diva. I never liked him, even at the peak of his popularity. Stormin’ Norman was more my kind of man. Powell shines a seat with his a** - he’s a bureaucrat who got way more famous and admired than he ever deserved to be. This self-righteous lackey should just go away and stop charging towards any tv camera that he can get his puss in front of. The man has little honor if any.
.....Thank you Jack for sending this to me. Jack's blog is Conservative Insurgent.

Makes you really wonder what's under that exterior of Powell's, doesn't it? Oh, and he's not African American! His family was white until his great grandpa married a girl from Jamaica, so he better quit it with the African American bit. It doesn't work anymore. I do admire that he got himself out of the ghetto, but I can't honestly admire how he flipped around on Bush and then quit as Secretary of State and changed courses with Obama.
Powell does come off as being opportunistic and greedy anymore. I sure am glad now that he didn't run for President. He would have been as flip floppy as Chuck Hagel and Ben Nelson from Nebraska!

According to Powell if we want to have a future, in politics in this country, we should sit down and shut up. And let the elites like Peggy Noonan and all the RINOs run the party into the ground as they did in this past election. Follow Powells paradigm and we will lose the next couple of important elections. In fact this is why we lost the election because a RINO was running as a conservative.
Powell said, there is nothing wrong with conservativism, when we allow the left to run roughshod over the constitution, usurp the constitution, and limit our God given rights, then, I guess, being a conservative is ok,(as long as we, again, sit down and shut up) as long as we see it there way and don't dare disagree.
Finally he said, he switched to voting for obama because he didn't like where conservatives were taking the party. What he is saying is two fold. One he is a RINO and wants to get along with the left wing of the party and two he voted for obama solely because he was Black and that is the dirty little truth the 'General' won't disclose.

Maybe he thinks Republicans should use minority groups instead of promote them. Democrats use minorities for their own advantage. GW Bush did more to put minorities in high level positions than any other president in history. Powell himself got his high promotions both in military and govt service under Republicans. He reminds me of Al Gore who after he got wealthy off of tobacco, condemned it.
It also looks like Powell is going the way of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton by convincing Blacks they cannot succeed in American without them.
I always thought Powell was overrated anyways. Schwarzkopf was the one who engineered and won Desert Storm.

I have been down on Powell ever since he advised Bush 41 to not destroy Saddam's Republican Guards in Gulf War One. Ever since then I have viewed Powell to be a concession maker rather than a strong advocate of American nationalism and power.
I think Powell's endorsement of Obama was more a race thing than an agreement of political beliefs.

Colin Powell has joined the likes of Ramsey Clark, Clark Clifford and R."Strange" McNamara, all pacifists pawned off as patriots. All of them cost American lives with their pacifist decisions and beliefs - Communists and Mohammedans don't play by and rules, chivalry has been dead for a long time and has no place in the ROE's
I still remember that battalion command bunker at Americal Division and wonder if Powell ever left it. I suspect he was there getting the political ticket punched like Kerry.
Like you Tom I lost any respect for him in Gulf War One, his advice has cost us dearly in a second war with the loss of American and Allied lives, not to mention the muzzie butchering they perpetrated.

It's time for Republicans to listen to minorities? Well maybe he has a point. Let's see.... What is a minority these days, White Males and White Females. Makes sense now; White Male: John Bolton, Rush Limbaugh, Gen. Petraeus, White Female: Sarah Palin. Works for me !!!

Colin Powell isn't and never was a Republican. He allowed himself to be called a Republican for personal gain to be part of the George Bush administration who he later stabbed in the back. Colin Powell admitted during interviews that his support of Barack Obama was based on skin color and racism. That says more about Colin Powell's motives than what he thinks about Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and conservatives.

I'm very sorry to hear that he still considers himself a Republican. He announced while he was still in the George Bush administration that he was a supporter of FDR's New Deal economic policies. It's ridiculous to imagine that he was ever even superficially a Republican.

Lynn, thanks for the information, I never knew that about Powell. I agree he did well, but his being the opportunist as he is has made him weak crossing the lines too often and not for the right reasons. There are times dems and rep. will agree, few times but they do happen. Powell was never a part of those times, he always did it when it advanced himself.

Darth, thanks for the verse and yes sell out for sure.

Mark, well said!! You nailed the whole thing about Powell and the last election.
And McCain has been a real piece of work since the election ended too. He just can't say and do the right thing no matter what.

BobF, your so right. Powell sure did get his high promotions both in military and govt service under Republicans. Too bad the dem voters can't see that and see right through what kind of man Powell is and is not.

Tom, yes that was horrible I remember that. Thanks for posting about it with the Gulf War.
I agree too, the fact that Obama is black was the huge drawing card for Powell. He might as well vote dem since he is so close to being one anyway.

Jack your right and I remember too what you shared on here about Powell with Vietnam too. Thank you again for telling about how he was then too.
Posted by: Wild Thing at December 13, 2008 07:08 PM
RAC, excellent, good one.
haaha I will vote for that anyday.
Posted by: Wild Thing at December 13, 2008 07:10 PM
Les, your right, I don't remember the exact quote, but Powell really put down Sarah Palin too.
His attacks on these conservatives is disgusting.
Posted by: Wild Thing at December 13, 2008 07:14 PM
Trish good point and I agree. He should just make a clean break away from the Republican party.

My apologies Chrissie, for your kind blog reference. Thank you. I had a senior moment yesterday at the lab and had to go in again today for a routine bloodletting or I'd have hung around longer to comment, twasn't bad, got to hug an old friend from another lab and chat a bit. I keep hearing and reading about Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf, and his leading from the front but not much about Colin. Both from the same battalion yet what a vast difference in leadership styles and accomplishments. Thank God we had Schwarzkopf post Vietnam.

I am so sorry you had to have more lap work done. I hate getting stuck with needles.
