Bored Caroline Kennedy (Schlossberg) Wants a Senate Seat To Play With
Bored Caroline Kennedy wants a Senate seat to play with
By Howie Carr
If her name were Caroline Schlossberg, her candidacy would be a joke.
History is repeating itself - and this time it’s even more farcical than in 1962, when Eddie McCormack, the state attorney general, uttered his famous put-down of then-29-year-old playboy Ted Kennedy:
“If your name were Edward Moore, your candidacy would be a joke.”
The difference between Massachusetts 1962 and New York 2008 is that Teddy had to run for the office. Forty-six years later, his niece Caroline expects - no, demands - to have a Senate seat handed to her, on a silver platter.
Elections? Kennedys don’t need no stinkin’ elections.
Apparently the U.S. doesn’t have a Senate anymore. We have a House of Lords. Instead of seats, we have peerages.
By now everyone has noticed that all the media hags who were so bent out of shape about Sarah Palin’s alleged lack of experience are touting Caroline’s deep hands-on credentials as . . . honorary chairman of the American Ballet Theater.
Not chairman, mind you. Honorary chairman.
Imagine a petulant, spoiled, rich 8-year-old dropped off with her dissipated relatives for the weekend. Imagine her plaintive cry:
“Uncle Teddy! I’m bored!”
At least out in Illinois, Jesse Jackson Jr. was pressured to pony up $1.5 million for his appointment to a Senate seat. Caroline wanted it the way her family always gets things: on the arm. If this is how they run things in Albany now, give me the Chicago way any day.
I’m sure she’ll be a reliable vote for higher taxes. Kennedys always are, except for when it comes to paying their own, especially estate taxes. Do as they say, not as they do. As Leona Helmsley used to say: Taxes are for little people.
Apparently, so is voting. Caroline’s got better things to do than stand in line at some sweaty precinct with the hoi polloi, enduring the foul breath of the plebeians.
She gets the seat, of course. Her main opponent is the state attorney general, scion of a lesser political dynasty. Andrew Cuomo happens to be the ex-husband of Caroline’s cousin, Kerry Kennedy. In a nice twist, Kerry has been making the case for her cousin on TV: “She’s a mother and a woman!” And you thought Caroline had no qualifications.
“We live in a country where one out of every five girls is sexually assaulted by the time she’s 21.”
Is this a good talking point for any Kennedy, male or female?
Here’s a bit more from Kerry:
“She hasn’t sought money . . . she hasn’t sought fame.” No, all she wants is a crummy Senate seat. The chumps in Congress say it shouldn’t be handed to her? Don’t they know who Caroline is?
Uncle Teddy! She’s bored!
Wild Thing's comment........

She is NOT qualified, but then, who in the Senate is? She has been lucky to have been born to wealthy parents whose families perhaps indulged her a wee bit too much. I guess she feels that now that dad, mom and John-John are gone, she deserves the seat. No, she doesn't. There are moms and women out here who could do the job just as well as anyone else. What's really funny is that her mom's great grandmother was related to Adlai E Stevenson! I guess we could say both sides of the family were corrupt as the day is long. I think the governor of NY needs to think long and hard about his decision. It's going to be King Solomon-like. At least Andrew Cuomo is a native New Yorker and wouldn't be a carpet bagger like Caroline.

As disgusting as it is,deifying the Kennedy name. She is the least disgusting of the clan, she's not qualified and will only serve as a party place holder and vote the party line. Interestingly none of the voters take umbrage with their voting rights being violated by auto successive appointments. You can bet there would be howls of protest if this were a Republican being appointed. Shame on John John for not taking Uncle Ted to the wedding.

If the only qualifications are to be a woman and a mother I guess that qualifies close to half the population of New York.
I hear that Oprah requested consideration for Obama's US Senate seat.
Soon that the Senate will soon be mostly celebrities and the elite.
I think we would be better served if Congresspeople were picked at random from the taxpayer rolls.

"That one hundred and fifty lawyers should do business together ought not to be expected." Thomas Jefferson on the U.S. Congress.
I wonder what he would say if he saw 535 lawers doing business together.

I find this Palining of Caroline Kennedy hysteria by Democrats, liberals, and the MSM laughable. In fact, it is the result of an infighting political war where this is Ted and Caroline Kennedy payback by Clinton supporters for their early support of Barack Obama. Where was the outrage when this story barely surfaced more than a blip.
Ted Kennedy: I'd like wife to take seat

Ted Kennedy has made clear to confidants that when his time is up, he wants his Senate seat to stay in the family - with his wife, Vicki.
Multiple sources in Massachusetts with close ties to the liberal lion say his wife of 16 years has long been his choice to continue carrying the family flame in the Senate. Kennedy won the seat in 1962; his brother John held it from 1953 to 1960.

They all, Senators from NY are NYC Senators and do not represent NY State. We would be better off to split into 2 states, New York (upstate) and NY City State (maybe they could call it New Amsterdam?) which would be a totally disaster if it could not feed off of upstate NY. They hold the vote and feed off of the rest of us. Schumer needs to go and we don't need a Kennedy, we didn't need a Clinton.

Lynn, ditto that.
I saw her on one of the Sunday morning talk shows today and she said that one of the qualifications she has is that her family has served our country in politics.
LMAO oh ok Caroline..... big deal. hahaha

Jack, your right, if she was a Republican it would be murder by media. They tried to character murder Sarah Palin with their lies and she is very qualified.
Posted by: Wild Thing at December 21, 2008 07:32 PM
Tom, oh wow I had not heard that about Oprah. LOL
I can't help it. I never watch her show, could care less if she exists or not and to think now with Obama old Oprah is going to be in the picture more and more. haha Help us all.

Les, wow I had not seen that. Good grief, this is all beyond stupid and not right.
Posted by: Wild Thing at December 21, 2008 07:41 PM
Bob A., yes, there are some wonderful people in NY, people that not only vote Republican but also are conservatives. They just are outnumbers like in Calif. too. I sure know how that feels from when we lived in Calif. Very frustrating.

The years have not been kind to Caroline. She should take a bow and leave before she turns into another Nacy Peelosi.

Being young enough to potentially have been sent to Berlin in the Crisis and at the very beginning of Vietnam, I'm young enough to remember this quote by her father, this was before the Bay of Pigs, the Missile Crisis and the assassination of President Ngo Dinh Diem and his own assassination.
An excerpt from John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address (January 20, 1961) Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. ~ John F. Kennedy
History has proven that they were only words, he abandoned friends to die in Cuba, he traded ICBM's in Turkey for the Russian withdrawal in Cuba and he sanctioned the slaying of Diem. Now you know why his sucessor, LBJ was the very last Democrat to garner my vote.
Posted by: Jack at December 21, 2008 11:02 PM
Mark,I noticed that too. I see that on a lot of the Kennedy women. Nancy Pelosi haha yes your right.
Posted by: Wild Thing at December 21, 2008 11:42 PM
Jack, I agree, those were only words with nothing behind them
