Obama and Rahm Emanuel Plans For "civilian security force"
Obama's chief of staff choice favors compulsory universal service
Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, President-Elect Barack Obama's choice for chief of staff in his incoming administration, is co-author of a book, "The Plan: Big Ideas for America,", that calls for, among other things, compulsory service for all Americans ages 18 to 25
Emanuel and co-author Bruce Reed insist "this is not a draft," but go on to write of young men and women, "the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service." They also warn, "[s]ome Republicans will squeal about individual freedom," ruling out any likelihood that they would let people opt out of universal citizen service.

"It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. ...
Here's how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They'll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we're hit by a natural disaster. These young people will be available to address their communities' most pressing needs."

Before blogs caught it, Obama site told of requiring students to serve
The official website of President-Elect Barack Obama, Change.gov, originally announced that Obama would "require" all middle school through college students to participate in community service programs; but after a flurry of blogs protested children being drafted into Obama's proposed youth corps, the website's wording was softened.
Originally, under the tab "America Serves" Change.gov read, "President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in under served schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps.
"Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year," the site announced.
The language of requiring students to serve and the creation of a "Classroom Corps" sparked a surge of criticism from bloggers for bringing back memories of the much-publicized video of marching Obama youth and Obama's "civilian national security force," which the candidate said in July would be just as powerful and well-funded as the U.S. military.
Some blogger comments that have been made:
Gateway Pundit called Obama's plan the "creation of his Marxist youth corps,"
DBKP commented, "'Choosing' to serve should be approved by parents – not required by the government. No amount of good intentions can sugar-coat words like 'mandatory,' 'compulsory' or 'required.'"
Following the furor raised by bloggers, however, the website's wording was changed.
The word "require" was stricken from the website yesterday, replaced with the phrase "setting a goal" and now also listing tax credits toward college tuition.

The new wording is consistent with Obama's campaign website, which also described the college tuition tax credit and detailed "enabling" Americans to serve, rather than "requiring" them to serve.
Elsewhere on the Change.gov site, however, it still describes the plan under the heading, "Require 100 hours of service in college."
Obama's selection of an advocate for mandatory civil service, Rahm Emanuel, as his chief of staff has further worried bloggers that Obama's plans may be more "requirement" than "encouragement."
In his book, "The Plan: Big Ideas for America," Emanuel writes: "It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, all Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service."
Obama has also yet to clarify what he meant during his July "Call to Service" speech in Colorado Springs, in which he insisted the U.S. "cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set" and needs a "civilian national security force."
Joseph Farah, founder and editor of WND, used his daily column first to raise the issue and then to elevate it with a call to all reporters to start asking questions about it.
"If we're going to create some kind of national police force as big, powerful and well-funded as our combined U.S. military forces, isn't this rather a big deal?" Farah wrote. "I thought Democrats generally believed the U.S. spent too much on the military. How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together?
"Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?" Farah wrote.

With Israel it is completely different. It is not only service to their country but their actual military. Israel has compulsory military service. The know their very survival as a people and a nation depends on it. However, the exception being that Israel is protecting itself from external forces, Obama may be shielding himself from critics.

But let me get this straight--you have to do 100 hours of community service to get 4,000, but you also have to serve 3 months in this ridiculous goon squad, too? When would you have time to study? And what about young parents between 18 and 25? Leave your babies to do this? The states will just love that one! I think it's a ruse for his Hitler youth, the Black Panthers and MS 18 gangs so they can be legal. What I say doesn't matter anymore.
My daughter would have to do this. I would say if you want to join the goon squad, fine, but it should NOT be mandatory. That's the draft all over again and who instituted the draft? Lyndon Johnson, a democrat! He just wants it so that you have no free, idle time (that's the devils work you know) but what if you have things to do at home or if you want to watch a movie or just have fun with you kids? That simply won't be tolerated. He's proving one thing here--he's an uppity, holier than thou asshole who thinks his own poo don't stink. And he's created this huge shit sandwich that all of us will have to take a bite of.

They did away with the draft because the left was opposed to mandatory service to your country. That was their excuse then. In 1967 we got 5 draftees, because of attrition, they were ok, they certainly didn't want to be in the Marines but made the best of it.
Serving in the Military is one thing and being drafted is/was part of it if your number came up.
But this compulsory stuff just smacks of socialism, I can not see all these leftists kids at Universities going along with this. D'ohbama's star is going to burn out real quick.

Interesting that since 1868 that all efforts to halt involuntary servitude culminate in Obama's agenda to resurrect national slavery. The Dems are bent on blaming Bush for everything, I'm surprised they haven't rewritten history to blame George for the Gulf of Tonkin Incident as well as Iraq. This Obama plan goes beyond the draft, I remember well the draftees, most were good troops but some were a problem. Back when Kennedy and Johnson decided to intervene in Vietnam they surrounded themselves with the best and brightest, just like Obama and Bush did before him.
Both Kennedy and Johnson had military service unlike Obama. One of those best and brightest advisors was Robert Strange McNamara; Strange was just that, strange, he was the architect of many elaborate experiments under the great society. As the war escalated after the Kennedy assassination they needed more and more troops, the elite kept their children in secondary schools, using every conceivable deferment they could, this put the burden of the draft on those ineligible to be deferred. Once those reserves dwindled McNamara looked around and his choices were the Army Reserves, National Guard or to start drafting from the universities. McNamara's Project 100,000 lowered military enlistment requirements to recruit 100,000 men per year with marginal minds and bodies. Hell there was a sea of eligible they just didn't measure up to the minimum requirements, the passing score on the armed forces qualification test had been a minimum of 31 out of 100. Under McNamara's Project 100,000, those who scored as low as 10 were taken if they lived in a designated "poverty area."
Touting his program as providing "rehabilitation," remedial education, and an escape from poverty, the program offered a one-way ticket to Vietnam, where these men fought and died in disproportionate numbers, earning them the title of the men of the "Moron Corps".
It wasn't their fault; McNamara was protecting the deferment system that he and other elitists were from. Yes I had some in my platoon; I just didn't have the time to change their diapers. McNamara needs to be lined up and shot, instead he with media help gets to revise history; the blood of thousands of Americans, our allies and millions of Asians is on his hands. Meanwhile the media puts the happy face on as they rewrite history, absolving themselves of any complicity in the debacle as they write themselves as victors to make the world think of them as warm and tender heroes, deceived and led astray. Is Rahm Emanuel Obama’s civilian corps chief McNamara? Fine if it gives them a warm and fuzzy feeling of all is well from the blundering incompetence they exhibited, after all they are the Democrats and they don't make mistakes, that honor is reserved exclusively for Republicans.
All Obama is doing is creating the basic Communist cells to enslave each and every one of us. The Youth corps he envisions will take the inferior and let them be led by the radicals to persecute and purge, just like Hitler, the Bolsheviks and the Khmer Rouge.

You're right Jack and that damn Macnamara is the reason the Marines had to change the color of their shoes. We started with Brown and this moron wanted every service have the same color. It would be cheaper if everybody had the same color.

It took me awhile to figure out what the heck he is saying with this. I want to see who will tell him no way of our elected people, I have written to the ones we have here in Florida and told them how wrong all this is and I will be watching to see if they say no to Obama.

As a middle school teacher who spends all day with 13 year olds, this leaves me rolling in the aisles. Trying to get a group of middle schoolers doing anything (including "compulsory service") is like herding cats.
Instead of making them volunteer their time, how about making them do their damn homework?
