Reid to McCain: Don't Come Back to Capitol
Reid to McCain: Don't Come Back to Capitol
A Democrat tells ABC News that, in a phone call late this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that it would NOT be helpful for him to come back to Washington, D.C., to work on the Wall Street bailout bill.
McCain this afternoon suspended his campaign and said he would skip the first presidential debate in order to return to Capitol Hill to work on the log-jammed Bush administration legislation, which, as of Wednesday afternoon, was in peril.
McCain had phoned Reid to ask about the prospects of him, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and others to sit down and work together on hammering out a bipartisan proposal.
"Sorry," Reid said to him, a Democrat close to Reid says.
Reid then read McCain the statement he had just put out:
"This is a critical time for our country," says the Reid statement. "While I appreciate that both candidates have signaled their willingness to help, Congress and the administration have a process in place to reach a solution to this unprecedented financial crisis. I understand that the candidates are putting together a joint statement at Sen. Obama’s suggestion. But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy. If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership; not a campaign photo op. If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now.”
Wild Thing's comment...............
McCain is a sitting senator!!!! What right does this Harry Reid character to tell McCain he shouldn’t come back. It was the Dem’s who caused all this in the first place!
Red is ticked, his vacation plans are being messed up.LOL
McCain could always remind Reid that McCain, Obama, and Biden are all accepting paychecks for doing the work of the Senate.
Hey Harry they need you in Las Vegas they are bankrupt!
McCain has really smoked all of these jerks out. They don’t lead. They follow and nip at other’s heels.

Reid is afraid of being overshadowed in his importance by McCain, and probably even Obama. Reid is one big pussy. The majority party could have done much better, even for itself, by picking better Congressional leaders than Reid and Pelosi. I think the party was much more interested in sticking it to the Repubs than in effectively running Congress.

Both McCain and Obama need to be a part of this. Whichever way the election goes, one of them is going to be stuck with the deal so they need to be a part of working it out.
Reid is just upset that his thunder is going to be stolen. But then, that's what you expect out of an emasculated male.

Can we use the word "inept" here? Why, I do believe we can! What a petty, petty man!
When I see him talk on the Senate floor or in a press conference, I count my blessings that he is not a part of my family and I do not have to listen to him over the Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

I don't know if obama should be there he would be expected to make a commitment and vote, yes or no, there is no room for a 'present' vote.
The empty suit that keeps on giving.

If I were McCain I would start letting Super Sarah do some jobs for me now. She should go to Oxford, MS today and debate Zero tomorrow. Shouldn't be much of a challenge for her.

Is that Dingy Harry's 'go ahead, make my day' look or is Nancy just standing on his bag of rocks?
For certain McCain isn't welcome, he might break gridlock and that scares the hell out of all the criminals in Congress.

Tom, I think so too. They have concentrated on their hate for the right and for Bush instead of doing their jobs.
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 03:07 PM
BobF, I agree they both need to be there. We don't know who will win and we need to see what McCain and Obama would do about this and not just some rhetoric on the campaign trail too.

Yankeemom, hahaha good one.

Tincan Sailor, heh heh. Reid has the perfect look for Halloween. hahaa
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 03:19 PM
Mark, yes the pressure is on Obama, like you said he can't vote his infamous "present" on this one.
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 03:22 PM
Horace, yes Sarah could do it.
giggle I can just see that too. She would be articulate and Obama with his constant UH's.
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 03:26 PM
Jack, LMAO so funny about Reid.
Thanks for the quote too.
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 03:32 PM
How dare Harry Reid! Just because his party went home on vacation this summer during the energy crisis and Barack Obama is a perpetual campaigner MIA from his paid job as a senator is no reason to tell Senator McCain not to do his. What does Harry Reid and his Democrat co-conspirators have to hide?
It is the Democrats that are trying to scare the public, not President Bush, that the economy is worse than it actually is for political election advantage. Yes, the economy needs fixing but the Socialism of Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Dodd, Frank, and Clinton is not the answer. It is national suicide.

The great coming together of all parties at 2 p.m. with W presiding seems to have been a cat fight. There weren't enough real men there to call it a dog fight. I don't think John M. has any real idea how to bring them together and I don't care. Let the damn place blow up. I hope he stands firm in spite of Bush. Better have it out now than later. The world as we knew it has ended. I just hope John and Sarah have good bodyguards with them at all times. I'm available if they need me.

Les, I heard Newt say tonight if they are going to do this to make it a workout not a bail out. Have them do a pay back of the money instead of just giiving it to them.
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 11:21 PM
Darth, DITTO that!!
Posted by: Wild Thing at September 25, 2008 11:28 PM
Horace, your right cat fight and no outcome so far.
The left thought they had it locked up but the conservatives are saying no way not yet. So we will have to wait and see what they end up with.

McCain has Bush/Paulson/Bernanke/Reid/Dodd on the ropes. If he will stand firm on Republican principles he may save the country before the election.
