Report: Russian Navy blockades Georgia

MOSCOW (AP)

A news agency says the Russian navy has deployed ships to blockade Georgia's Black Sea coast.

The Interfax news agency says the Moskva missile cruiser and other Russian Black Sea Fleet ships have been deployed to Georgia's coast to prevent any weapons supplies.

A Russian navy spokesman refused to comment on the report Sunday.

Unclear Whether Georgian Olympic Team Will Stay in Beijing

Russia daily online

The Georgian Olympic team will not participate in the 29th Summer Olympics and is leaving Beijing. Georgian media report that the athletes made that decision after a meeting with Sandra Roelofs, wife of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in Beijing. The official reason for the decision is that the athletes want to be with their families during this difficult time for their country.
Saakashvili had stated previously that the Georgian athletes plan to stage a protest against Russian actions in South Ossetia, even though, under the rules of the International Olympic Committee, they could be disqualified for doing so. Georgian and Russian athletes were scheduled to face each other for the first time on August 13, during the women’s beach volleyball match.

No UN deal over Georgia

Reuters and video at link

U.N. Security Council fails to reach an agreement aimed at halting the bloodshed in Georgia.

The head of Europe's main security group says the region is on the brink of a full-scale war.

Wild Thing's comment.........

Russia is not going to stop with just South Ossetia... they want all of Georgia.

Georgian troops have been combating Islamic terrorism in Iraq, while previously Putin attempted to block any and all meaningful military action against Saddam, plus Moscow continues 'assisting' Iran's nuclear weapons quest against the West, and arming all of our and Israel's worst enemies.

They want the old Cold War Soviet bloc back. They've been buying up as much oil, etc., as they can and are heavily invested in Empire building, something they blamed Bush for doing, but Bush isn't doing.
They want to terrorize their neighbors again. They want the KGB coming in the middle of night and dragging you off to a gulag because you said something like Putin has Puddin in his pants.
Leave Georgia alone. They seem to be doing fine on their own.

GO GEORGIA!!!
The pictures from Georgia are heartbreaking. We here in the US have have little knowledge of such things. Even 9/11 couldn't stop the latte-sipping mall-cruisin' folks from sipping and cruisin' very long.
We take our pretty darn secure country (not negating our open borders and jihad cells here)very much for granted. Too bad the news orgs don't feel that stopped attacks in this country are news worthy. Most people don't even know that there have been numerous planned attacks that have never come to fruition, thanks to the watchers.
Russia is flexing it's muscles, China is trying to tell the world that they are willing to play "nice", Iran keeps spitting in the eye of the civilized world and the media is 24/7 nonstop Edwards Made a Boo-Boo! (But hey, it's ok - he didn't love her...)
Calling Dick Durbin...

What exactly does the UN expect to accomplish, another slap on the wrist for the Soviets ? Which would be typical. Is the Hague going to indict Putin for war crimes and crimes against humanity ? Afterall he is right there in Georgia directing operations, and probably is the author of this invasion.

When is Europe going to wake up. When are we going to wake up and kick the UN the hell out of our country.

Now is this invasion a threat to NATO, Georgia wants to join Nato, but hasn't yet. So what does the U.S. do, make idle threats, and then leave the Georgians to their fate. Which everyone knows is the conquest of the Territory and recombining it with the Soviet Union. The Georgians are certainly depending on us to help.

Where is the democrat leadership condemning this invasion, talk about being 'reminiscent of Ghengis Khan' where are all the Tuff democrats, where are they hiding?

This is Reason number one (1) WHY barry obama can never be president, National Security is too important to trust to some left wing, gutless Weenie like Obama.

'Til now I've believed that Obama will be elected President. This might change that. A response will be a campaign issue. That little turd Putin might have elected John McCain.

Rhod makes a good point depending on how the MSM portrays this war. The MSM may mostly ignore it, or present it as Russia coming to the aid of a minority breakaway state with Russia being a heroic hero.

I still cannot get out of my mind Bush hugging Putin's shoulder at the ranch in Crawford and telling us what a good guy Putin was. I actually believed Bush knew what he was doing, even as Putin had that surely, bully look on his face. Even as my instincts were telling me Putin could not be a friend of America.

The hand holding with the Saudi prince later told me that Bush was a poor judge of character. Bush is just a decent guy that wants to be liked by everyone.

Clairvoyant???

Bush on Putin: "I looked the man in the eye," he said. "I was able to get a sense of his soul."

Bush on Medvedev: "I looked into his eyes and saw a “smart guy” "

Does this mean that Bush has no ability to judge character, seems likely. I's too late to wail and gnash about the invasion by Russia, they're getting the same response that was given Poland when Germany invaded.

What magnificent leaders we have, we're adrift, rudderless in a sea of enemies and led by nitwits who never studied history.

It's obvious that George isn't listening to his advisor's or they are not communicating the truth to him.

Dr. Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor and Secretary of State is supposed to be an expert on Russian affairs, for whom? The UN, Russia???

The UN has never done anything but support Communism and it's advance, they are best at partitioning countries until a complete Communist take over can be accomplished. Where the hell is Bolton??? What will govern the next presidencies 'instincts', necromancy and coprophilia?

Obama's taking a sabbatical in Hawaii, too busy as a potential world leader to weigh in, it's his trademark. Just roll over and kiss Puties arse.

Tom and Jack are right. Bush saw in Putin the same things Carter saw in Brezhnev - but looking into men's souls and seeing struggle and potential goodness is theoretical and metaphysical, and has nothing to do with the hard facts of power politics. We always fail when we elect men who judge their opponents in this way. The world is Hobbseian, not Christian.

The Russians, as well as every other country on the planet, knows that the United States doesn't have the stomach for any more wars. They know that George Bush will not militarily intervene in Georgia or Iran before he leaves office. They also know that an Obama presidency and Pelosi/Reid "wave the white flag" and "blame America first" Democrat controlled Congress will not go war letting Russia, Iran, and any other rogue nation do as they will.

It's going to be an interesting, if not nail biting, next four years.

Lynn, yes they have done a lot of that in the past, dragging people off. Putin needs his head examined to keep this up.

Yankeemom,....."We here in the US have have little knowledge of such things. Even 9/11 couldn't stop the latte-sipping mall-cruisin' folks from sipping and cruisin' very long."....that is so true.

Posted by: Wild Thing at August 10, 2008 06:05 PM

Mark, yes that sure is verrrryyy interesting that we have not heard word one out of the dems on this.
Bush has been arguing with Putin while they are at the Olympics about this, they just reported about it on the news. They said the smiles are for the cameras and then when they talk the Bush has been arguing with Putin to stop this.

Posted by: Wild Thing at August 10, 2008 06:09 PM

Rhod, thanks I had not even thought about that.

I saw where Obama's first reaction quote was for Russia then he heard what McCain's repsonse was and flip flopped to siding with Georgia. Obama is such an idiot.

Posted by: Wild Thing at August 10, 2008 06:14 PM

Tom, I think so too. I think Bush is not a bad man, and is judgement becomes flawed when he just treats these people like the guy down the road he is friends with and we can't do that with these leaders. Putin and the Saudi guy are not the guy down the road they have an agenda that is not pro America at all.

Posted by: Wild Thing at August 10, 2008 06:23 PM

Jack, I agree, I don't think Bush has an ability to judge character. He seems to surround himself as well with too many he should not trust. Not all but too many. Everything else you said too Jack is right on.

Posted by: Wild Thing at August 10, 2008 06:26 PM

Les, yes we are spread out all over the place. Putin knows this too and Bush is talking hard to him to stop this war he is into and listen up. So far Putin will not listen to Bush at all.

But, but an Obamessiah in the White House will... CHANGE all of this! Just the swearing in of Obamanation on January 20, 2009 will end all of our 'Blame America First' perceptions? Russia will retreat, Hamas and Hezbollah will praise Obama, Iran will no longer say "Death To America,"
and Al-Qaeda and Syria will be drinking Jack Daniels whiskey and eating KFC!!! What a three year wonder B. Hussein Obama is WT!
