Sounds more and more like Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars every day. We don't kill innocents and most of the fighting is amongst the Iraqis, we're in the background just helping out anymore. It's not even a war anymore. We're the teachers helping the Iraqis learn to walk and talk on their own for the first time in many, many years without fear of retaliation. Murtha needs to blow up and float away like that guy in Dune.

Murtha is a sorry ass joke- he is a traitor - he needs to be impeached - he should be striped of all Military - honors and serve his time and the rest of his life in a Military Brig - doing hard time til he croaks- what an SOB!!!! I hope they bring him up on charges!!

With our 'hero' Murtha there seems to be some controversy about his wounds and their validity reminiscent of John Kerry. I find it peculiar that the commissioned suffer this malady more than the non commissioned.

My suspicions about Murtha is that he was amongst those few officers who fell into that high ratio of officers to enlisted where there were not nearly enough legitimate command and staff positions for all the officers. New positions had to be created, for which new functions had to be devised.

As such the military bureaucracy began to expand in all branches, especially with the proliferation of research and development (R&D) commands and liaison offices, the expansion of staff billets and the invention of new duties basically intended to make work for the underemployed.

These essentially bureaucratic positions did not prepare officers for combat command, so there arose an insistence on frequent rotation between staff, administrative, technical and line positions, ranging between 12 and 24 months.

Officers had to "get their tickets punched" by serving in the widest range of positions in order to qualify for promotion (this is sometimes called the "Merit Badge Syndrome").

Officers passed over for promotion were normally required to retire (the "Up or Out" principle).

For an officer about to get cashiered from being passed over, a 'combat wound' surely was a graceful ticket out and an unemcumbered platform for a political career.

Far too many officers viewed Vietnam as a place to ''get their tickets punched'' on the ladder to higher rank.

I for one left a promising career over the "chickenshit".

I know that short of losing consciousness, that just when, where and how a wound was sustained is without question, why then is it such a stretch for John Murtha or John Kerry to tell the truth?

I emailed Lt Col William Russell awhile back and told him he is not in my State but I am praying he wins. Rhod he has got to win, this Murtha has got to go and what a marvelous way to kick him out with a big punch by his not being in politics. Please God.
