Elvis did one of the better versions of this
song. He knew how to sing and he knew what
was important. He loved this nation even
with all her faults. He saw the good in her.

Most of Hollywood does not consider Elvis an icon. Maybe because of his patriotism in songs like this and his hitch in the Army. We, the great unwashed in The Heartland, loved Elvis.
