Why Does Obama's Pastor Matter?
Why Does Obama's Pastor Matter?
Frontpage ...for complete article
Barack Obama, in a way that recalls John F. Kennedy, a politician to whom he's frequently compared, has carefully controlled and burnished his image to create the impression of an independent figure, free from dogma and ideological entanglements. But there is one man who threatens to undermine Obama's appealing narrative as a man above the ugly quarrels and divisive partisanship of the past: his longtime pastor and spiritual adviser, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
So great is Obama's respect for Wright, that the former sought the Reverend's counsel before formally declaring his candidacy for U.S. President.
In Wright's calculus, white America's bigotry is to blame not only for whatever ills continue to plague the black community, but also for our country's conflicts with other nations.
"In the 21st century," says Wright, "white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just 'disappeared' as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns."
Remarkably, no mention of jihad—the ageless Muslim tradition of aggressive, permanent warfare whose ultimate aim is to achieve Islam's dominion over the human race at large—managed to find its way into Wright's analysis. Rather, he assured us that the 9/11 atrocities were ultimately traceable to the doorstep of U.S. provocations. In fact, Wright apparently sees no reason to suspect that Islam may be incompatible in any way with Western traditions.
"Islam and Christianity are a whole lot closer than you may realize," he has written. "Islam comes out of Christianity."
Apart from America's purported racism, Wright also despises the nation's capitalist economic structure, viewing it as a breeding ground for all manner of injustice.
"Capitalism as made manifest in the 'New World,'" says Wright, "depended upon slave labor (by African slaves), and it is only maintained by keeping the 'Two-Thirds World' under oppression."
This view is entirely consistent with Rev. Wright's devotion to the tenets of liberation theology, which is essentially Marxism dressed up as Christianity. Devised by Cold War-era theologians, it teaches that the gospels of Jesus can be understood only as calls for social activism, class struggle, and revolution aimed at overturning the existing capitalist order and installing, in its stead, a socialist utopia where today's poor will unseat their "oppressors" and become liberated from their material (and, consequently, their spiritual) deprivations.
An extension of this paradigm is black liberation theology, which seeks to foment a similar Marxist revolutionary fervor founded on racial rather than class solidarity. Wright's mentor in this discipline is James Cone, author of the landmark text Black Power and Black Theology. Arguing that Christianity has been used by white society as an opiate of the (black) masses, Cone asserts that the destitute "are made and kept poor by the rich and powerful few," and that " no one can be a follower of Jesus Christ without a political commitment that expresses one's solidarity with victims."
Many of Wright's condemnations of America are echoed in his denunciations of Israel and Zionism, which he has blamed for imposing "injustice and … racism" on the Palestinians. According to Wright, Zionism contains an element of "white racism." Likening Israel's treatment of Palestinians to South Africa's treatment of blacks during the apartheid era, Wright advocates divestment campaigns targeting companies that conduct business in, or with, Israel.
Given Wright's obvious low regard for the U.S. and Israel, it is by no means surprising that he reserves some of his deepest respect for the virulently anti-American, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
"When Minister Farrakhan speaks, Black America listens," says Wright. "Everybody may not agree with him, but they listenHis depth on analysis when it comes to the racial ills of this nation is astounding and eye opening. He brings a perspective that is helpful and honest. Minister Farrakhan will be remembered as one of the 20th and 21st century giants of the African American religious experience. His integrity and honesty have secured him a place in history as one of the nation's most powerful critics. His love for Africa and African American people has made him an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose."
In addition, voters should examine carefully the question of whether Obama shares Wright's socialist economic preferences. They ought to be aware, for instance, that the Democratic candidate is on record as having said that his religious faith has led him to question "the idolatry of the free market." Moreover, Obama's voting record and his issue positions show him generally to favor high spending and increased government intervention in all realms of life.
When Rev. Wright's controversial statements and positions recently became more widely publicized, Obama said, "There are some things I agree with my pastor about, some things I disagree with him about." It is the duty of every American voter to determine exactly where those agreements and disagreements lie.
Wild Thing's comment........
When I was a kid, my Father told me you are who you associate with. I thought of that as I read this article. The article is long and I only put snippets in this post. We all have seen the vidoe posted on here of his Pastor speaking, other posts about his church and what it stands for and against. How rascists it is and the Pastor leading the way.
This article goes even more in depth about Obama's pastor and I agree, we need to know what about these things and what to expect if Obama wins. We know what Hillary is, we survived 8 long miserable years of she and Bill and their lies, corruptions, "gates", FBI files on others, deaths surrounding them most mysterious and convenient to say the least.
But Obama is new, very new on the scene and the rise to his success has been paid for by the most vile man Soros that lives to destory America. I want to know all I can about my enemy.
....Thank you Mark for this article.

For those of you who lived through the sixties, this picture won't sit well...

What is it going to take for people to wake up and realize who this guy is ? This picture should be plastered all over the media. Huckabee can get raked over the coals for what was percieved to be a cross in the background of one of his ads, but a blatant racist symbol of Black Power gets a pass.
To quote another phrase from the sixties, "Please stop the world I want to get off".

How dare his monster minister say things like that?
The majority of Americans are NOT bigots or racists! We have learned to live together in relative peace and harmony. It's that attitude of
"Whitey gotta keep black man down!" they have that we don't like.
I have black cousins (what do I care about skin color?), my first real crush was on a black boy (he was kind), I've worked under black managers (some good, some bad), so to call me bigoted or racist is simply not tolerable in my eyes.
And why is it okay for him to call me a "Whitey?" Isn't that a racist remark in itself?
Why is it okay for them but not for me?
I'm sorry--men of the cloth do NOT act like Rev Wright. He is NO man of God.
Jesus is weeping because of idiots like him.
It's only attitudes I don't like. Not skin color or race or even religion. I'm a human, as are we all. Rev Wright has forgotten that God loves a wondrous variety.

If it was perceived that we are not racist as a nation, the Dems would lose a large bloc of voters. They have to keep the illusion going, if only to stay in business. If people are self-reliant and responsible, what would the socialist progressive party stand for? This is one reason I laugh at their calling themselves progressive - regressive is more like it.
Lynn says:
"And why is it okay for him to call me a "Whitey?" Isn't that a racist remark in itself?
Why is it okay for them but not for me?"
Apparently to them, only white people are racist. Always have been and always will be to some of these folks. Must keep those blinders on or they wouldn't get a spot on the cable news shows.

This Rev Wright is a Marxist racist. The Black community has to get away from the radical reverands, whether they are "christian" or Nation of Islam clergymen. These same leaders are the guiding points that are keeping the Black community in it's throes of poverty, crime, drugs, dysfunction and hate.
That Obama, a well educated man, is a supporter and follower of this type of reverand is scary and unsettling. I don't notice the MSM paying much attention to this point.

I think Yankeemom is correct.............without racism, the Democrats would not have anything to stand on. And, the Negros, (or any other ethnic group for that matter) would not be able to cry discrimination. They would lose all their "freebies" and not have anyone to blame for their own inadequacies and laziness. This applies to everyone. White, Black, Pink, Purple.......doesn't matter what the skin color is. It is what and who you are inside that determines your potential to be anything you want to be.....IF you want it bad enough!!!! Yes.....there are obstacles as we travel down life's bumpy road but like the Marines.....you learn to adapt and overcome.
Many many moons ago, when the world was first being explored, the Spanish were very prominent in leading expeditions. And the Spanish word for black is "Negro". So why do we have to be Politically Correct and use the term African-American? First of all, I don't like hyphenated names (like Hillary Rodham-Clinton)!!!! Second of all, I was born in THIS country so I'm an American, even though my ancestors came from Scotland and Ireland. I don't call myself Irish-American!!!! And why is it AFRICAN-American? Why not AMERICAN-African? Gee...If America is so bad and Africa is so fantastic, why not go back to Africa?!?!?!?! Oh......I forgot.........they wouldn't be entitled to all of the nice amenities there like they are here!!!
If I sound racist, I'm sorry. I don't consider myself to be so. Many of my closest friends are Black. I just get sick and tired of listening to the same ole, same ole.........lame excuses. Too many prominent Blacks have proven how wrong their theory is. If there is still racism in the world, just look at where it is coming from.

And I'll bet some of my ancestors were here a lot longer ago than his!
It sure makes people laugh when I call myself a "Pre Colonial American!"
One family legend has one ancestor here from Wales in 1170 in the Dakotas, left a colony, went back to Wales and returned in 1190 and was never heard from again. So Rev Wright can sit and spin!

The MSM is not paying any attention to it, is because it is masked behind Obama, and the fact that a sacred Cow would have to be slaughtered in the process. That of course would be JFK.
It seems strange, and not matter of course, that the fact, that, the THEN, U.S. Attorney General was wiretapping MLK and Malcom X, to find out what they were up to. And That Attorney General was the other brother Robert Kennedy.
As far as racism goes, How did Obama get so many votes, he didn't win Iowa by the Black vote alone, of course that is never pointed out.
This is early yet, I think as time goes on Obama will be found out to be NOT so clean and so morally goal oriented as it may appear and a dual personality will begin to emerge. One that has very racists roots. If this pastor plays such a huge part of his life then the racism he spews has rubbed off on Obama and this will be found out. Hopefully before the election.
Afterall, Obama supposedly met with his Pastor to counsel him on whether he should run for the Presidency. Isn't it strange too that Reverand Wright has ties to Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. Which runs parallel with the hidden agenda of Obamma being a closet Moslem.
I don't trust Obama or anyone connected with him.

Barack Obama's close association and support of Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his continued membership in the racist Trinity Church of Christ will come under much more scrutiny as the primary process continues.
The Clinton war machine will use it against Obama if they feel that he is getting too close to her or is doing permanent damage. Should he actually get the Democratic nomination the blood sucking media would put headlines over ideology and burn him at the stake.

Billy thank you soooo much for showing us the photo. Sheesh, and that is exactly what we have to expect too if Obama wins this.
Thanks agian Billy.

Lynn I agree Jesus is weeping to hear such hate from what is supposed to be a man of God.
Posted by: Wild Thing at February 6, 2008 01:00 AM
Yankeemom....."regressive is more like it."....that is exactly what it is. Then when a black is a conservative, thinks for themselves and all along the lines of a conservative they get bashed by the left as not black enough. That is so horrible how that do that to people. Llike J.C Watts is a good man and they were alwasy bashing him from the left.
Posted by: Wild Thing at February 6, 2008 01:03 AM
Tom, yes the media is nto even getting close to telling the truth about Obama's connections, his church or anything like that. Shame on them for not telling the truth then let the people decide but slanted news is not true news it is propaganda.
Posted by: Wild Thing at February 6, 2008 01:05 AM
John, I agree, and like you said they would miss out on the freebie too.
"It is what and who you are inside that determines your potential to be anything you want to be"....So very true too.
Posted by: Wild Thing at February 6, 2008 01:08 AM
Lynn, ""Pre Colonial American"...I think that is so cool.
"Rev Wright can sit and spin"...I agree!
Posted by: Wild Thing at February 6, 2008 01:12 AM
Mark, oh I sure hope so. Even if someone could tell about what you just said and do it in the media, just say the truth. There will still be people to vote for him anyway. But at least the truth would be known and for some I hope it would wake them up.
Posted by: Wild Thing at February 6, 2008 01:15 AM
Les I hope so, and your right about the Clinton machine too. They do have their ways of digging up stuff and leaking it.
