Huckabee Overstays Welcome On Saturday Night Live
Huckabee Lingers on the Set of 'SNL'
NEW YORK
Even though Mike Huckabee is still battling for the Republican presidential nomination despite long odds, he said Saturday he won't "overstay his welcome." Then he did precisely that, lingering on the "Weekend Update" set of "Saturday Night Live" despite repeated cues to leave the stage.
The former Arkansas governor appeared in a "Weekend Update" segment in which he described his confusion over whether it is mathematically impossible for him to win the nomination over front-runner John McCain. After anchorman Seth Meyers explained the numbers, Huckabee responded: "I'm not a math guy, I'm more of a miracle guy. So at this point I'm gonna focus on the miracle part."
However, he said: "Mike Huckabee does not overstay his welcome. When it's time for me to go, I'll know. And I'll exit out with class and grace."
Then he remained seated at the "Update" desk even though Meyers made it clear it was time for him to leave.
SNL," known for its political humor, has been on the sidelines for nearly four months because of the Writers Guild of America strike. The political landscape has changed a great deal since then, with easy targets for the show's satire, like Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, dropping out of the Republican race, and Barack Obama overtaking Hillary Rodham Clinton on the Democratic side.
The last time NBC broadcast a new episode of "SNL," on Nov. 3, Obama played himself as a guest at a party thrown by Hillary and Bill Clinton. McCain hosted an episode of the show in 2002; Giuliani hosted in 1997, when he was mayor of New York City
Wild Thing's comment........
LOL oh dear me, Huckabee just can't understand his 15 minutes of fame are over and done. If he were Cinderella the slipper would still be lost, the coach outside would already have left and the Prince would have gone home long long ago. giggle

But if he leaves, those of us who haven't voted yet will have no choice except to write in someone or vote for McCain.
So kind of in a way it's good, but he still can't win. Maybe he's holding out hope that he'll be the vp candidate. Somehow I doubt that he will.

I watched Huckabee on some morning TV show and he basically said the reason he's staying in the race was to provide people an alternative to vote for.
In a way, I see his point. By voting for him, people can tell McCain and the RNC that they don't follow lock, stock and step to their beat.

Huckabee is like one of those preachers that so loves his own voice he doesn't know when to end the sermon. I wonder if Huckabee destroyed Romney's chances by siphoning off votes that would have been anti-McCain votes.
Huckabee for sure is feeding his ego and possibly looking for a position with McCain. I bet McCain has no use for Huckabee and would not offer him a position in anything, except maybe campaign chaplin(is there such a post?)

I just read that Ralph Nader is jumping into the race and will run on a third party ticket. This is good news.

Huckabee is like that other Arkansas Governor, his egocentricity gets in the way and he just can't let a photo op pass him by.
Old Ralph is a Commie but it sure will pucker up both Hillary and Barak if he throws his hat in the arena. It will almost be like running an intelligent Al Gore against them, that will siphon off some of the freak fringe and enviromentalists. I particularly like the quote he made.
Emerging Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama's "better instincts and his knowledge have been censored by himself," Mr Nader said
I reckon Obama's playing the Black God to his followers had led him to believe he truly is the messiah.

Lynn, yes you I know what you mean. And if I was Huck I would hang in there till the delegates reach the amount McCain has to have.
Huckabee does have to be careful though so he does not become a political joke of not leaving when the time comes. That is what was so funny about his appearance on SNL. The producer had told him to leave the stage after his last line and he stayed that is why it was so funny that he kept sitting there after he had agreed to leave the set. giggle
This whole election though is such a mess.

Bob, thanks I hadn't see that.

Tom, yes, I think Huck did just that. Romney had many more delegates then Huck and he got out of the race and I wish he hadn't.

Mark, I think so too. The more in it the better, even though there is a huge response to Obama it just might mess with it and maybe Hillary's too.

Jack, that is very interesting and true too. There is something that happens to most, not all, but most people when there is the kind of response that Obama has been getting.
Unless a person is really grounded they will let it go to their head and he started off with an attitude so this has got to be going to his head like crazy. That worship me thing and that adds to his being dangerous too.
