"I know what it's like as a Palestinian" ~ Condi Rice
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice reportedly said in Annapolis this week that her childhood in the segregated South had helped her to understand the suffering on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"I know what its like to hear that you can't use a certain road or pass through a checkpoint because you are a Palestinian. I know what it is like to feel discriminated against and powerless," Rice told a closed meeting of Arab and Israeli representatives, according to the Dutch representative at the summit, Franz Timmermans.
"Like Israelis, I understand what it's like to go to sleep not knowing if you will be hurt in an explosion, the feeling of terror walking around your own neighborhood, or walking to your house of prayer," Timmermans quoted Rice as saying, the Washington Post reported.
Rice described her childhood in Birmingham, Alabama, during the era of segregation and the killing of four young girls in a bombing at a Baptist church in 1963. She reportedly said the bombing, which killed one of her classmates, helps her understand the fear of terrorism felt by Israelis.
Wild Thing's comment........
Condi is such a disappointment, even more so than the usual “we are the world” fools that inhabit the state department. How can someone with a Doctorate be so stupid? I really thought she was more intelligent than that.

Condi, what you experinced was racism. What these folks are experiencing is a rational response to terrorism. If the Palestinians swore off violence, this would end. The fact that you are incapable of understanding this scares the hell out of me.
Being black and the discrimination against the blacks is not even close to a bunch of terrorists and gypsies that were kicked out of every middle east country for violence and other crimes. Arafat got kicked out of Jordan in 1974 and 27,000 of his people were killed in Jordan. They go into Israel and call themselves Palestinians and you feel sorry for the terrorists. God said he would help those that help Israel and destroy those that go against Israel.

Then she should know that the Iraeli fear is differenct than the Palestinian fear. Every Israeli has been threatened. Only Palestinian terrorists have been threatened. Every single Israeli has to fear for their life. The Palestinians have sworn to erase Israel from the map. Israel has never stated it would do the same with the Palestinina areas.
Condi Rice tried to find common ground with the terrorists so as to push the peace agenda along...thought she was smarter than that...now she just sounds like a decibel challenged Al Sharpton.
A similar comment was reported when she was in Jerusalem a few weeks ago in which she reflected on her youth, and compared Abbas to Martin Luther King. The other half of the analogy was left unsaid, I suppose Sharon is George Wallace. Only a couple sources as it was said at a reception, but it got some press, mostly negative, questioning her neutrality. She hasn't done her credibility as a neutral party any good with these off topic pronouncements.

Israel Natioinal News
"For Dr. Rice, the struggle of the Palestinians is analogous to that of the African-Americans for civil rights and she identifies with the Palestinians. She recalled what it Juxtaposition of the African-American campaign for civil rights and the Palestinian (armed) struggle seems strange.meant to travel in segregated buses as a little girl in Alabama. She also compared the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, to Reverend Martin Luther King, because, in her mind, both were committed to peace. According to reporter Aluf Benn, Rice views Abbas as committed to the struggle for Palestinian independence and, like Martin Luther King, opposed to terror and violence (Haaretz, October 16, 2007). "

I wonder if she's trying to get into the good graces of the Jackson/Sharpton crowd?

Sometimes I think we should not have a Sec of State or a State Dept. Foggy Bottom, as the State Dept is known, seems to be one large liberal, anti-American cesspool. Sec. Rice is getting more disappointing all the time. In a way I am glad we only have a year left of this Administration. Except for the war effort, the Bush team seems to be rudderless in the water.

Sorry Condi, I'll have to call you on that. Don't pull that rewiting of history bullshit, it might impress the lefties and your darling muzzies, especially when the only place you've been has been under the cloak of diplomatic immunity and secret service police protection. Racism yes, but wholesale slaughter, hell no. and don't make the moral equivalancy of Dr. King being the same as Arafat, there was absolutely nothing peaceful about Arafat.
Most of the deaths suffered in the U.S. of the '60's resulted from the not so peaceful in your face militant confrontational activities agitiated by the Communists in the fifth column. Remember how the Watts riot started Condi, you were 11 years old then? Just like Mogadishu, the black anarchists stoned the police while they were doing a routine arrest. Does she also give Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and Earl Anthony credit for peaceful dissention? That riot affected black soldiers at Fort Ord, the brig was full so they were sent to Camp Roberts under armed house arrest, there they tried to bust out and lost, a couple went to Atascadero by ambulance in such bad shape they didn't need a guard escort. Neither a fun time nor place in my life during '65-'66.
Condi is such a dissapointment for the US since she is working for the UN. Yes TomR, it is a cesspool.

So according to Rice, Bull Connor, George Wallace, and Lester Maddox are akin to the Jewish Leaders of Sharon, Beginn and of course that Right winger, Netan-yahu.
I never remember Martin Luther King, Jr. ordering Mortor and Rocket attacks on the Southern city of Birmingham. Or the fire bombing of school busses ?
This is nothing but a rehash of Jiimmy Carter, it is an attack on Israel. The Israeli's haven't got a whole lot more land to give up.
If she is such a good negotiator why not talk Saudi Arabia into giving up a strip of land for the 'Wonderful, Downtrodden Palestinians'.
The best ally we have in the whole world she is running around trashing them. To curry favor with a bunch of terrorists.

Condi Rice saying "I know what it's like as a Palestinian" is about the stupidest thing that I have heard in a long time. It reminds me of the saying, "It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are a fool than to open it and remove any lingering doubt."
Unfortunately, Condi Rice has opened her mouth too many times this last year trying to create a second (Jordan being the first) Palestinian state which, in fact, is and always will be controlled by terrorists and guaranteed to further disable any chance of democracy taking hold in the Middle East.

Darth, yes and I wish just once we had people that took a firm stand and the heck with all this phony peace talks. I might be wrong, but when Abbas goes around saying this week, he will never reconginze Israel then they are all spinning their wheels.

Bob, maybe, she is just so disappointing. I used to have a lot of respect for her. But she has made too many unnecessary commments, they do not help Israel at all for me to keep on respecting her.

Tom, I just don't understand why we keep having women do this job. Madeline Albright and Condi.
Our country has to deal with Arab countries, moslem counties and right off the get go they do not respect women.

Jack thank you so much for telling about all of that. I wish Condi could read your comment.

Mark, YESSSS, and Condi was the one that wanted Carter brought in one some of the Israel input too. Thanks.

Les I agree she really has outdone herself with these kind of comments. I am done respecting her.
