More Soldiers Issued Safer Vehicles in Iraq
LOGISTICS SUPPORT AREA ANACONDA — The military’s newest fighting vehicles are now on the ground at LSA Anaconda.
Lt. Col. Jeff Meo, 402nd Army Field Support Brigade commander from Army Material Command, says the MRAPs will provide more protection for Soldiers out on combat logistics patrols.
“The MRAP is mine protected with a ‘V’ hull, which allows it to ‘push off’ the explosion when it’s hit,” said Meo.
In addition to being up-armored, the interior seating has also been redesigned.
“The MRAP has seats that flex with an explosion, and what that does is absorb a lot of the energy so Soldiers aren’t injured,” he said.
This shipment of five MRAPs to LSA Anaconda is the first of many. Manufacturers are scheduled to deliver 4,600 of the vehicles into theater over the coming weeks and months.
“They are pushing these things out the door as fast as they can,” said Meo.

I love that they keep on working on making things better and better for our troops. To keep them safe as much as possible is so important.

Huge change from my era, we put a layer of sandbags on the floorboards, filled the doors with sand or plate steel if we could get it, even took to setting on the flak jacket. The fact is it made little difference when your number came up. I've noticed that that big white star(the can't miss target) is missing from the door on that truck. Sure hope these new vehicles save the lives they are touted to.

Jack, we put sandbags on the floor of the jeep and drove as fast as we could. In Vietnamese traffic that was exciting. But, we always slowed down to look at the girls in their Ao Dais(Vietnamese dresses). We never had the booby trap problem to the extent our guys face it now. Yes, let's hope the new vehicles work as advertised.

I did a post on the MRAP awhile back on my other blog...it's a much needed improvement! V-shaped hauls...
Happy Veterans Day soldiers!

First came Blackwater's APC, and now this. I am glad there are people out there designing better protection for the good guys.

Tom, giggle.
Me too Tom I hope it cuts down on the amount of injuries our guys are getting from the other vehicles.

We lost one of our boys (one was also badly wounded) to one of those roadside bombs..:( We all know who is supplying those terrorist pigs with them too. It's time for Achmed and his fungus faced mullah's in Iran to have a bunsen burner placed under their arse. Preferably one of the nuclear kind! I couldn't believe that your country allowed that Iranian fool to adress one of the facilities at your University. No homosexuals in Iran, "we do not have this thing"....lol,lol,lol. That's because the cretins have hung 4,000 of them since the return of their Ayatollah. Including teenagers.

Haven't you seen Star Wars? You build 'em bigger, the Ewoks get more inventive.
