Just because Putin isn't from the US doesn't mean he doesn't have any common sense. Actually, Sanctions are an act of war! Iran has not attacked any country since the 18th Century. In 1973 the CIA overthrew a democratic leader who was elected by the people. Who was put in that President's place - none other than the shah of Iran, and many thousands of people died under his leadership until he was ousted. As a pay back, Iran held hostages for a year in 1979. Then backed by the US, Iraq attacked Iran in the 80s. Chemical weapons by the way were used and much of the weaponry came from the US. When 9/11 occurred the people of Iran gathered on the streets of Tehran sympathizing with the Americans over the twin towers and the deaths of 3,000 people. When the US attacked Afghanistan, it was also Iran who help fight against the Taliban until our great leader called Iran, "The axis of Evil." Then it was the US who attacked Iraq who had not made any threats against the US. It's true initally Saddam kicked the UN Inspectors out of the country but then let them back in. It was our leader who chose to have the UN inspectors removed because of his desires to take us to war.
Today, gas prices have escalated to the point many of lower income people are having to spend money for gas in order to get to and from work, and then cut back on meals at home. Kind of difficult for a family of 4 to be employed at a minimum wage. Crude oil prices are increasing, the value of the dollar is diminishing! We are spending more money on the war in Iraq and denying those people of this great country who are in dire needs! We have lost allies and gained more enemies around the world than ever before in our history. We now want to place missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic and escalate comments against Iran because in Iraq Iranian weapons have been found. Sorry, on that note, the US is the biggest arms dealer in the world, have sold to anyone they liked, and any country that doesn't agree with the US is being threatened in one form or another.

I believe we need to read and study the Constitution of this great country before we start worrying about being the almighty to the people around the world. We just might end up in WWIII and it may be on our own territory considering the weaponry held both by China and Russia. I'm sure many of coalition forces will opt out before committing their country to war.
This is why I believe Putin is correct even though he once was a KGB operator. At least he has the fortitude to speak out and I'm sure most of the countries around the world will agree with him. Maybe not all, but those who aren't receiving assistance from the US.
