Condi Discusses Mideast Peace With Chief Israel-hater Carter
Carter, Rice discuss Mideast peace role
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Washington
Former President Jimmy Carter met Wednesday with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss ways Carter and other senior statesmen might help support administration efforts to broker peace among Palestinians and Israelis.
The talks took place hours after Rice warned the House Foreign Affairs Committee that chances for an Arab-Israeli peace accord were in danger of slipping away, as she works to bring Palestinians and Israelis together in Annapolis, Md., late next month for what would be the first substantive face-to-face peace talks in seven years.
Carter met separately on Capitol Hill with the committee's chairman, Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.), to discuss whether informal diplomacy might be able to help advance the peace process after the envisioned Annapolis talks conclude.
Carter has ruled out a role for himself, or for the other statesmen, before the peace conference, said former Carter aide Stuart Eizenstat, who attended Wednesday's meeting.
With efforts to bring together Palestinians and Israelis at a delicate juncture, Carter "doesn't want to throw another set of actors" into the mix, said Eizenstat, who served as Carter's chief domestic policy adviser. Instead, he said, Carter wants "to see what happens — if anything — in the conference."
Carter declined to discuss Wednesday's meeting, which included a House Foreign Affairs Committee member, Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), who chairs the subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.
"I don't have time to talk," Carter said, waving off a reporter immediately after the half-hour meeting in Lantos' office. "I have a plane to catch."
Carter is part of the so-called Elders Group, assembled last July by former South African President Nelson Mandela. The group, including former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, recently visited Darfur, Sudan, and, working closely with U.N. personnel and others on the ground, prepared a report on human rights conditions in the troubled region.
One possibility Carter is exploring is whether the group, chaired by South African Bishop Desmond Tutu, might weigh in similarly on the Palestinian-Israeli question, said former Carter aide Robert Pastor, interim co-director of the elders group.
"We're not talking about mediation or negotiations. We're talking about just exploring whether a report would be useful," said Pastor. "We're at a very early stage of prebriefings and consultations."
In testimony before Lantos' committee earlier Wednesday, Rice warned that Iranian support for the militant group Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by the State Department, has influenced Palestinian politics to the point where chances for a historic compromise with Israel could be fading.
There was no immediate response from the White House or the State Department about the question of whether Carter might be called upon to help break the potentially dangerous impasse in the U.S.-Mideast relations, much as he used informal diplomacy to broker compromises with North Korea and Haiti a decade ago.
"I have no way of knowing whether anything like that is ongoing," said Carter's former national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinksi. "I doubt that the administration would be very receptive and so I'm a little skeptical about the speculation, but who ... knows?"
Wild Thing's comment........
As Rush Limbaugh said...."I think this is a brilliant idea: ask Carter what he would do - then do the exact opposite."
Discussing our security with one of the biggest internal enemies of America. Washington is TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. There is no question why this country and the world is so screwed up?
Asking the one person who played a big role in making the Palestinian terrorist movement- and the entire ME terrorist movement- what it is today for "advice" has got to be the most idiotic thing she has done to date. May as well give nukes to the terrorists. There is no end to the meddling of this Anti-Semite birdbrain Jimmy Peanut brain Carter.
This shows that she has no grasp of the situation whatsoever; she's just following the same old "Palestinian" lie that a foundation of peace can never be built on.
"Carter is part of the so-called Elders Group, South African President Nelson Mandela. former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan chaired by South African Bishop Desmond Tutu, former Carter aide Robert Pastor, interim co-director of the elders group."
It's a collection of the most primitive minds on the planet. They must have been selected because they xrays show that their brains hadn't quite evolved to the current human size. No doubt monkey woman Jane Goodall selected this "group of elders".
ONce again we can see why the UN is so corrupt and screwed up, and what a wonderful job they are doing with Africa."group of elders", what a joke. A washed up terrorist, a washed up murdering dictator, a con- artist, and a peanut farmer, all uneducated idiots.

We're still trying to clean up the mess from Carter's presidency and his other free-lance diplomacy, thankyouverymuch. I mean, Carter's freezing Iranian assets in this country was what started the whole Middle East hooraw to begin with.
And another name for this Elder's Group should be The Usual Suspects, i.e. the ones that put us in the situation we're in now, and can't stand being out of power.
At least Reagan had the good sense to take himself out of the public eye when the Alzheimer's took hold.

Maybe TomR or Darth could explain something to me. What has Carter got against the Jews? I simply do not understand.
Anyone else? Lynn?

Steve, what has Carter got against America and the West?
Consulting Jimmy Carter on MidEast policy makes me worry now about the entire White House foreign policy. I know that Bush is an appeaser, almost to the point of being a love beads hippie mind. He has had seven years to figure out that the Palestinians want to wipe out Israel. So he consults with Israel hating Carter?
Of course Bush 41 is running around with Bill Clinton raising funds for "world problems" so there may be a gene problem in the Bush family.
Laura Bush just made a breast cancer awareness trip to our "allies" on the Saudi Peninsula. We got to see her sitting with burka clad "women?" and we got to see her headscarfed.
Our present leadership will not define our enemy and I wonder if they really know who our enemy is.

I don't think Carter has anything really against the Jewish people, he has forgotten that Israel and Palestine are the same people!!!!
Palestinians believe Israel stole their birthrite because they come from the older son.
But for us to be claiming that Israel is treating Palestine in any way of torture is just wrong--it's the other way around they way I see it.
Carter is just an idiot who was only elected because Ford pardoned Nixon. The man was an idiot then and he's more of an idiot now.
The Israelites and Palestinians are just going to have to get used to each other, plain and simple.
They have to share--what a novel concept--sharing.

I blame global warming...
Seriously tho, what fine company ol' Jimmy keeps!
I just keep wondering when the folks occupying offices at the residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave are going to start standing up for the country they purportedly serve. Letting Carter and his buddies have any sway is tantamount to disaster for so many. C. Rice needs to go to a Middle East History 101 class. Our Elected seem to need to go to US History 101. (but not in a public school)

When I look at an organization founded by 16 Communists in in the United states by and for Communists, whose idea for the United Nations was officially proposed in 1944, at the secret Dumbarton Oaks Conference, where the framework was developed, and the final plans laid out. That conference was attended by representatives from the U.S., England, and Russia, and it was all coordinated by Alger Hiss. Their Communist affiliation was discovered 5 years after the U.N. founding in October 1945. That was in 1950, this was under FDR's and Harry Truman's terms in the whitehouse and discovered by a GOP member.
Joseph R. McCarthy was originally aligned with the Democratic Party then later with the Republican Party. during his ten years in office McCarthy and his staff became notorious for aggressive investigations of people in the U.S. government and others suspected, as Communists or Communist sympathizers from 1950 to 1957, the CPUSA. He too was censured by the media most vigorously by Edward R. Murrow. Sound familiar?
The UN has never been anything more tha a tool of Communism that has since been hijacked by former Communist nations and the Islamo-Fascists. Their record of peace keeping is appalling.
Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush and our dearest shrub Jorge all capitulate to the UN, it took the 9-11 attacks to motivate a retaliation against the foe for the very first time.
I'm not convinced that the reaction by Bush wasn't due to memories of Mussolini swinging if he didn't act, of course it offended and still offends the leftist Communists that we took our sovereignty serious and fought back.
Don't forget that the UN has funded the terrorists in Palestine under UNWRA since it was founded by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1949. Nothing could be a clearer move against Israel that UNWRA, Carter has done everything he can to further UN control, Communist agendas and decrease the ability of the United States to defend itself and it's sovereignty, he openly speaks out against the Israelis and the United States.
Condoleza Rice is just a minion of the same elitists that are willing to sell out our staunchest ally in an appeasement disguised as a peace overture. Her pandering to two of the biggest duds in history only proves her lack of knowledge about the forces of Islam and her dependence on the UN sycophants of the past.

Carter came out of the socialist closet after he left the White House. Although I have to agree that a lot of what happened during his watch was not his fault...a hell of a lot that has happened since IS his fault. He would have been criticized if he had just bombed hell out of Iran when they took the hostages..but by not doing so he set a precedent that the USA will do little to protect itself against raghead terrorshits..and that is what tghis is all about..Carter is pushing a socialist agenda with the hopes that once the country goes socialists it will still be strong enough to fight the ragheads..who could give a gotdam about anyone including themselves..

This story about Condi Rice (with the encouragement of President Bush) seeking advice from the Jew-hating Jimmy Carter is worse than even you describe. Condi Rice meets regularly with Madeleine Albright for foreign policy advice and currently is also talking to her and others besides Jimmy Carter who have failed to force Israel to commit national suicide in previous negotiations with the Palestinians (aka terrorists).
George Bush has directed Condi Rice to force Israel to capitulate to Arab and Islamofascist demands for a Palestinian State before he leaves office (as his legacy) no matter what it costs the Jewish State and the war on terrorism. To be fair, Ehud Olmert and his Kadima party in Israel are all too willing partners in this farce.
Read the following articles for more on how deranged U.S. Middle East policy has become.

Rick I wish all Presidents when they are done would just go relax, take walks, read, enjoy life or whatever, but stay the heck out of politics.

SSgt Steve, they all answered better then I could. Mostly the things he has said, his book and that kind of thing show up that he is not favoring Israel at all.
