More Than 40 Arrested in Immigration Raid at McDonalds
More Than 40 Arrested in Immigration Raid at McDonalds
Fox News
RENO, Nevada
Federal agents raided 11 McDonald's restaurants in northern Nevada and made dozens of arrests Thursday as part of an investigation into illegal immigration.
Agents for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made at least 56 arrests in Reno, Sparks and Fernley after raids at the restaurants and a franchise corporate headquarters in Reno, agency spokesman Richard Rocha said.
"They are people suspected of being in the country illegally. As far as I know, they were all McDonald's employees," he told The Associated Press.
The investigation began five months ago and was sparked by an identity theft complaint, Rocha said. A local law enforcement agency then gave ICE information that illegal immigrants were working at specific McDonald's restaurants, he said.
Luther Mack, who owns at least some of the restaurants that were raided, insisted that his businesses require employees to provide documentation.
"As an employer, I do not knowingly hire or employ undocumented or unauthorized workers," Mack said in a statement.
The raids drew immediate criticism from Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and activists, who estimated the number of arrests to be closer to 100.
"We don't approve of the Gestapo methods ICE is using," said Gilbert Cortez, a Latino leader who urged Hispanic workers to stay home from work in protest Friday
Cashell, a Republican and former lieutenant governor, said that if identity theft was involved, that was wrong, and that he opposed a protest that would keep workers at home on Friday.
He said he would contact Nevada's congressional delegation and ask the city council to look into the raids. He said that he opposes illegal immigration, as well as immunity for illegal immigrants, but that "there has to be a better way to do this."
Wild Thing's comment........
One of my all time favorite illegal alien quotes:
“Why aren’t the authorities out arresting people who are breaking the law instead of these poor undocumented workers?!?!”
For Julie, that misunderstood this post LOL .... Julie... the quote I used above was to show how awful they are, how stupid they are and how they truly do not get it about illegals and how THEY are breaking our laws. ---- Wild Thing

... sounds like a typical DRIVE THRU raid to me.
Want some ICE with your 40 illegal taco salads?
Nevadans had 40 illegals process their food orders with TB, Hep A, Pox this and that, etc?

We've got that outbreak problem here too where the fast food industry hired a ton of either legal or illegal latinos to work in the stores. At another top chain, the girl on the register couldn't speak English! She wanted us to write down our order and she was handing it to the only english speaking employee there--the mgr. and the mgr didn't care.
Then they got the order wrong!
I've workd for DQ, Arbys and McDonalds in my youth and if you were hired there, you HAD to speak english or you didn't get hired.
Wonder if they can read the sign that tells them to wash their hands after using the facilities.

You hire the legal Hispanics along with the illegals. This way, when a raid like this one takes place, you scream discrimination. I wonder how many American Citizens were denied jobs at McDonald's because they went to illegals.

... the name of the Nevada ICE round up times 40 illegal immigrant democratic voters: OPERATION UNHAPPY MEAL...... Si senor & senoritas?

I can not believe you people that are upset about the arrest at McDonalds, in Reno, are you kidding me? Why are they not arresting people that are breaking the law, the illegal immigrants are breaking the law. I am sorry that children are missing Mommy and Daddy, but here in America you break the law you go to jail and they do not care if you are a parent or not you still go to jail or prison. What makes you think illegals should have more rights than Americans and when I say Americans I include legal immigrants who came the right way. So you break the law then you and your children pay the price or go home.

At least high profile raids like this put doubt in the minds of other illegals. McDonalds is almost a sacred institution in America. My local MD has only one non Latino employee. Most speak normal English, but several speak no English, so it is rather easy to guess the illegals vs the Native born.
Employers as well as illegals have to know that they are increasingly under the gun for raids. This will be an excellent first step to stop, then reverse the illegal immigration problem.

Bob, oh wow that might be what they are doing.

Julie, please see my special note to you in my post above. I truly think you misunderstood my post.
All of us here at Theodore's World are totally against illegal immigration and want them to follow the laws to enter our country.
Have a great day.

Tom I think your right. They will spread the word and maybe it will help to discourage it even a little will help.

The mantra of the open borders crowd is the ILLEGALS do the work real Americans won't do. Now how many American kids are not working because these illegals are working at Mcdonalds?
Cortez doesn't like the Gestapo like tactics, amazing how these Mixican leaders bring up Nazi tactics, hell if we were to use Gestapo tactics on the illegals, they would be instantly persuaded NOT to SNEAK across the border for fear of being hanged by piano wire, or meat hooks.
But the rhetoric by Cortez is just that try to make the Bush government look bad, as if Bush needs any help form the Illegal Mixicans defenders.

Oh dear. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, squawks like a duck it must be a legal illegal. To know one and to hire one is condoning the practice.

'Americans' simply don't want to work long hours in rubbish jobs. Kick out your illegals (every country has them, it's normal) and you'll have to close down your beloved McCraps. You'll also find that there's no-one to wash up in all restaurants, no-one to clean toilets, pick crops, nanny your kids, load your lorries etc etc etc.
They don't detract from your economy or standard of living, they bolster it.
Posted by: nigel greyman at September 30, 2007 07:18 AM
For Nigel Greyman if that is indeed your moniker, obviously you have no concept of the way 'Americans' live. Granted there are an overwhelming number of pampered, selfish people in this country who have a larger than life sense of entitlement as portraied by the media. Your stereotype of the 'American' does not mean that the rest are not hard working citizens working long hours in rubbish jobs.
Please define a rubbish job.
Is it picking our crops? If so I can point out the many occaisions I and many of my fellow countrymen have picked those crops. Name it, from cutting Asparagus, harvesting Peas, Potatoes, Sugar Beets, Cherries, Apricots, Peaches, Pears and Apples and all the grain crops.
Or is a rubbish job the processing of all those crops and marketing them, perhaps its the planting and growing that is the rubbish job.
What of that worker in the service industry? You describe them as lorrie loaders, restaurant workers, toilet scrubbers and our nannies. All of the aforementioned jobs I have performed.
You see Nigel the smell of gain is sweet no matter what the source. Whether you be cutting scrap in a scrap yard, handling guts and bones for rendering industry or hides and hair for the leather and cosmetics industry. yes I have done that too as well as work in a slaughter house.
Dirty jobs, yes, but honest productive jobs. I've worked as a logger, cattle rancher, farmer, construction worker, heavy equipment operator, a machinst, soldier, mechanic, laboratory technician, process technician and as a salesman. The only government job I've held is as a soldier and that sir was a civic duty.
Most of the citizens that are the working class of this nation are from families where both adults work, one earning enough to support the Socisist tax system that in turn supports the non productive and the government employed. The other wage earner has to support family needs as well as contribute into that tax system.
You claim that 'Americans' don't want to work long hours in those rubbish jobs, many don't, yet they do because they are too proud and self reliant to take a handout from their government.
Their employers are always seeking to cut labor costs, as such they will hire someone for less than the prevailing wage and benefits who is willing to keep their mouth shut and not complain, this practice closes the door for employment of the legal citizen when that preferred employee is an illegal.
Many are here only to earn a wage, they send the bulk of that wage back to their home country to families left behind. A practice that undermines the United States economy as well, the balance of legal trade and the value of the currency, they fear only deportation.
When was the last time Nigel commuted a full hour to the workplace, worked a laborous full 12 hour shift then commuted that full hour back home, only to start over again day after day doing the same thing? It doesn't happen often in the public sector but it is a very real part of the private sector, you know, that sector which is the productive sector for the public sector.
I've worked a lot of jobs, some you might consider rubbish jobs, all toward moving upward to better and more productive employment. You see Nigel not all 'Americans' are above getting their hands dirty, only those unwilling to earn their way in this big old world.
Like in the UK we have our share on the Dole, with ragheads driving our Taxi's, we have our farmers and ranchers and also too many employed by the various government agencies. Perhaps "They don't detract from your economy or standard of living, they bolster it. "
But they do detract from my standard of living, undermine our civil process and overload our social safety nets. If you feel that strongly about conditions in my country feel free to send any sustaining funds to the United States Treasury, there will by a pompous Democrat there to take your money's.
Which sector are you employed in Nigel?
