Schools Giving Muslims Special Treatment
Some say schools giving Muslims special treatment
Some public schools and universities are granting Muslim requests for prayer times, prayer rooms and ritual foot baths, prompting a debate on whether Islam is being given preferential treatment over other religions.
The University of Michigan at Dearborn is planning to build foot baths for Muslim students who wash their feet before prayer. An elementary school in San Diego created an extra recess period for Muslim pupils to pray.
At George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., Muslim students using a "meditation space" laid out Muslim prayer rugs and separated men and women in accordance with their Islamic beliefs.
At the forefront of the movement is the Muslim Students' Association, which has formed a Muslim Accommodations Task Force to push for foot baths and prayer rooms. At least 17 universities have foot baths built or under construction, including Boston University, George Washington University and Temple University, and at least nine universities have prayer rooms for "Muslim students only," including Stanford, Emory and the University of Virginia, according to the MSA's website. The association did not return calls seeking comment.
Daniel Pipes, founder of the Middle East Forum, a conservative think tank, sees the requests as part of a movement to force the public to acquiesce to Islamic law."The goal of Islamists is the application of Islamic law," Pipes says.
In the San Diego case, a substitute teacher at Carver Elementary School alleged that teachers were indoctrinating students into Islam. The San Diego Unified School District determined that a teacher's aide was wrong to lead Muslim students in prayer. Carver still has a special recess to allow 100 Muslim students to pray.
The ACLU, which has often sued schools for permitting prayer, says it is waiting to see what kind of policy the school settles on before deciding whether to sue. It says promoting prayers is unconstitutional.

I don't think most people really understand we are at war, not just away from our homeland but right here on our own soil. Weird I know and they are stupid, but how else can it be explained for this kind of giving in to go on. Next Shira law?!

NO! If my kids can't pray to Jesus, then they can't pray to Allah. Separation of church and state, idiots.
That's unfair. If they're going to allow Muslim prayer and muslim symbols, then they have to allow it all.
I'm sorry if a Christmas tree, a crucifix or a menorrah offends them, but have they ever thought that their symbols might be considered offensive, too?
What are we? A bunch of weenies who can't stand up to the minority trying to push their own agenda?

... and in a few weeks, a Madrassas will open up in New York City (where the twin towers were hit on 9-11) at tax payers expense as well. The caliphate will be established in the Wahabbi Muslim vision and only a few of us get it? This former superpower is burning slowly from within - like Rome did... and only a few of us get it? Increment by increment, the moslem "surge" drives on. And the dhimmis cave in. That all levels of academia cater to moslem demands does not surprise me. So much of our education system is totally absorbed by politically correct. One of Ronald Reagan's few failures was not abolishing the Dept of Education.
And our government continues to invite in more and more college students from islamic countries. Has anyone heard if authorities ever found all those Egyptian students that "disappeared" into muslim communities instead of showing up at the college in Montana? What the hell is a Montana college doing taking in 14 or 15 Egyptians anyway? I guess because their tuition is paid for either by US aid funds to Egypt or by Saudi Arabian WAHABBI funds

Where the hell is the ACLU enforcing the 1st amendment. Seems they only get involved when a Christian is puts up a cross at a cemetery.
The separation clause Lynn point out seems to be selective.
But the question is why is the left allowing this, it is a religion and treading on their 1st amendment, why is this different than a Christian with similar demands ?

If these foot baths are built with government money, anyone can use them, right? Why don't we all start using them. A foot bath has always made my old Army feet feel better.
