John Edwards Wants to Raise Minimum Wage to $9.50
wltx.com
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards says the 70 cents per hour increase in the minimum wage is not enough.
The former North Carolina senator told reporters in McClellanville Wednesday he wants other presidential candidates to join him in calling for an increase in the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2012.
Tuesday's increase boosted the minimum wage to $5.85 per hour.
Wild Thing's comment........
“Sir, Can I offer you $3.00 fries to go along with your $6.00 Big Mac?”
This would of course drive the unemployment rate through the roof. But Edwards and his fellow travelers on the left don't really care about the consequences of their economic foolishness. All they care about is pandering to the ignorant.

They just don't realize how increasing minimum wage will affect us all.
My company, who has no one at min wage, is looking to make cuts anyway.
Either lay off employees or raise the prices of your goods and services across the board. But it's the poor and middle class who will get hit the hardest.
Minimum wage is just that--a starting wage. You aren't supposed to stay on that forever!
And raising min wage might keep those wanting to go to college to better themselves out of grants, etc., because now they make too much!
I know they're trying to look kindhearted and all, but they're screwing it up.

Oh, and another thing--the more you make, the more they tax!
You end up with less actually over time.
They do have a secret agenda.

... come now. Our millionaire Opee Edwards gets $400 haircuts and knows how to rob from the rich and give to the poor. - Robin Hood 2007

It doesn't matter what they make the minimum wage as you will always have people only making minimum wage.
Minimum wage was never meant to be a wage to support a family on. Like Lynn said, it's starting wage for high school and college kids looking for a part time job.
If the poorest person in American had an annual income of $150,000 per year, they would still be the poorest person in American and living in poverty.

$9.50 an hour for a 'sweeper' or an apprentice or for someone who knows absolutely nothing about the company he just hired into. Hey, thats not bad. Now, all WE got to do is to figure out who is going to come up with the money to pay, that kid off the street to sweep the floor.
My overhead isn't going down because I have to pay this kid and exorbitant amount of money, to stand around and watch people work, because basically he knows absolutely nothing, and is really a liability to me and my company.
Amazing, Edwards, knows how to fleece people out of Millions through law suits but I will bet he never actually worked for one penny.
He has never had to make a payroll either. This will just increase my labor burden, i.e.,taxes, benefits, where am I supposed to come up with this kind of extra money. Labor burden comes out to right around 35% of the total job cost.
There are: As built plans, Business and occupational fees, Engineering/working drawings, Equipment Rental, Field Office, Fire Seals, Guarantees, OSHA Compliance, and the list goes on and on. This is all overhead.
...Plus keeping this kid out of trouble, and safe... If he drives a company truck, and causes an accident I am libel, if he robs a bank on his lunch hour with a company truck I am libel.
Out of the total job cost is a profit of about 10-15 %.
I will not pay an apprentice or any entry level employee that kind of money. I just won't hire them. If I am forced to hire them then someone who actually earns his money will have to take a cut in pay or not work at all.
Democrats do know how to kill an economy with their whacko socialists ideas, and if they insist on national health care I will have to close the doors.
Where is it written that those who work for what they get owe something to those who refuse to work or won't.

The economy is doing very well without the government fiddling with wage controls. In the last 4 years 8 miilion jobs have been created. Unemployment is around 4.5%, quite low and some of those people don't want to work as long as they get enough government benefits for wine and cable tv. Inflation is very low.
The problems with the economy are not at all bad right now. I worry about outsourcing of jobs, the trade deficit, growth of entitlement programs and government spending, and some other future potential problems. But, we are doing well right now without injecting Liberal economic policies like minimum wage increases and tax hikes.
John Edwards is trolling for votes. His fiscal ideas would be as devastating as his successful ambulance chasing endeavors were as costly.

I remember all to vividly how effective the wage and price controls were in the 70's. Still wanna go back there? John Feces Edwards want's to destroy small business and increase those in need of the government's cradle to grave financial support. Let's see, what's better, 4 to 5 % unemployment or 15 to 18% unemployment? Been there and done that, seems that crime was very high during the 18% unemployment too. How about another run of double digit inflation? Say around 18% - 22%, that should really help the housing industry and curb those pesky small business owners. Yep Dr. Breck know what's best for the patient, fiscal responsibility, especially like in the 70's when wages were locked in the price controls were lifted and inflation was at a full gallop. The cure? More taxes!!!

Lynn thats right, it has to get passed on to the customers. Just like when the gas prices go up, it costs trucks more to bring the goods to the stores so prices go up for milk, bread etc.

Darth, yep that is what he 'thinks' he is and he is so far from that it is laughable.

Bob, yes I agree, it is a starting wage but the lefies that are employees will be cheering for this and they are too stupid to see the damage across the board it will cause.

Mark, well said!!!!
"Democrats do know how to kill an economy with their whacko socialists ideas"......and youro right about Health Care too, it will be the death of so many businesses.

Tom he sure is, he is kissing up to the poor like crazy. And of course so many do not understand how the economy works, and how business have to pay out tons of money when they have employee's. Not just their salaries but also the doubled taxes to the government thanks to the dems in the past as well making it a law.

Jack well said, this kind of thing puts small business's out of business so fast heads spin.
