Pelosi Hints At Denying Bush Iraq Funds
Pelosi hints at denying Bush Iraq funds
(AP)
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said newly empowered Democrats will not give President Bush a blank check to wage war in Iraq, hinting they could deny funding if he seeks additional troops.
"If the president chooses to escalate the war, in his budget request, we want to see a distinction between what is there to support the troops who are there now," she said in an interview broadcast Sunday.
"The American people and the Congress support those troops. We will not abandon them. But if the president wants to add to this mission, he is going to have to justify it and this is new for him because up until now the Republican Congress has given him a blank check with no oversight, no standards, no conditions," said Pelosi, D-Calif.
Her comments on CBS' "Face the Nation" came as Bush worked to finish his new war plan that could send as many as 20,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq and provide more money for jobs and reconstruction programs.
Bush is expected to announce his plan as early as Wednesday.
When asked about the possibility of cutting off funds, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer declined to say whether Democrats might do so, saying only that the current strategy clearly is "not working."
"I don't want to anticipate that," said Hoyer, D-Md., on "Fox News Sunday."
Some military officials, familiar with the discussions, say Bush at first could send 8,000 to 10,000 new troops to Baghdad, and possibly Anbar Province, and leave himself the option of adding more later if security does not improve.
"Based on the advice of current and former military leaders, we believe this tactic would be a serious mistake," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
Wild Thing's comment.......
IMO just saying the fact that the Speaker and Majority leader have publicly raised the possibility of defunding the war will massively boost the insurgents' morale and put our troops in even more danger. The way they are talking it doesn't even have to do with sending more troops. They really would love to stop the funding to our troops.
Just more proof that "we support the troops" has always been a lie. They have always hated the military and they always will. Stupid b!tch, she's not hurting President Bush, she is hurting the soldiers & Marines in the field. Not that she'd care either way. They are hell bent on losing this war and they are letting the insurgents know it.
I'll never understand why the Democrats, the media and many Americans are so eager to give those who have killed our soldiers... a free pass.
Once the first US soldier was killed-every American , regardless of how they felt before the war, should have been behind the effort. What kind of people let the killers of our troops go unpunished ? I'll never understand what makes a Democrat tick-never.
The battle field is not just over in the middle east .. it's also here at home
Dems mantra, "Don't blame me, I voted for Stalin."

Were going to loose this thing in Iraq; not militarily but politically, just like Vietnam. The fact that the Democrats are calling for withdrawals and threatening to withhold funding tells the terrorists that they've won as the politicians have lost the will to fight. Were going to become no better than France.

Why does she always look like she just ate a lemon or just bit into a bad one. In fact all those libs look that way, if they are not up tight they just are not happy.
Can you imagine being married to that Witch, how in hell did she ever have time to make a kid(s).
They just can't accept the fact that we are in a real war, threatening to pull money for the funding...but they support the troops...of the war. How can they support the troops if not support their mission.
Underhanded,backstabbing liars.

It's over, this animal is dead and enduring it's last few kicks of life. This is the same lesson I learned under JFK's Cuban campaign (a pledge of no U.S. invasion of Cuba, plus the withdrawal of U.S. Jupiter missiles in Turkey), LBJ's Vietnam campaign and Carter's Iranian campaign. Kennedy didn't live long enough to see the result of his abandoning Cuban fighters to Castro's death squads, like Korea we still have that enemy at our doorstep. Vietnam brought more death and Communist success at the cost of 58158 American and countless Asian lives because of the lack of will and the same retracted battle plans we have in Iraq. Carter pussyfooted and equivocated like the eunuch he is, letting Iran get away with an act of war, and throwing away the lives of an elite strike force due to his lack of planning in the desert. In all cases the troops weren't supported, they were scorned by the very people that sent them there. War is a serious undertaking, not to be negotiated, to be either won or lost unconditionally. Since the conception of the UN the United States has lost the will to win, with Congress preferring instead to relegate that concept to the Islamic despots and Communists that control and operate the UN where we the United States get to be used as the world's policeman to win all the battles yet lose all the wars for a zero net gain. I can't help the feeling that we are being used to soften the opposition for the eventual takeover by the U.N. Once again Bob has his finger on the pulse and is reading the nation's BP correctly. I totally agree, "were going to become no better than France".

if not for the left wing this war would beover and done with. But Bush has tried to walk the tightline to satisfy the left..cannot be done regardless. The left and the MSM drool everytime a troop is killed because they can add it to their numbers in the headlines.
But, all that said..I want to see some kind of mission statement or at least something that will satisfy me that the military is going to be allowed to do what they do best..fight. They know who the bad guys are..namely the damn mullahs who have their private militias. If the troops are added to go after these sumbitches I will gladly support the effort. But more troops to keep on doing what they are doing now..propping up an inefficient government that is in the pockets of the gotdam mullahs..just ain't going to cut it. I would rather see us pull up our pants and come home than more of that. But I would also like to see a few cruise missiles sent to visit the mullahs as we are pulling out and maybe a few more to visit Iran

The Dems support the troops. They kept sayin' it prior to the election. But, now it's a whole new song. Hope all the conservatives who stayed home and didn't vote in protest are happy now. Pelosi and Co. are going to try and gut the military.

Bob, your so right! I have a tiny ray of hope left and I just pray that Bush thumbs his nose at them when he speaks on Wed. He has to, needs to and if he doesn't we are in deep doo doo.
I would take great pleasure in doing that and then telling our military to go all out, and the media and politicans can go to hell.

Mark, LMAO that is what my husband said...."damn I would hate to wake up to that!". haha
I think she had a face lift, not sure. but that is one of the reasons I hate that stuff. A person seldom looks the same afterward. Yuk
That is why she looks surprised all the time.
She can't cry. hahaha because she can't close her eyes....just kidding on that last part.

Jack it sure is a sinking feeling and very frustrating. Here we have the best military in the entire world, they are totally awesome and they keep being held back on so many things.
Thanks Jack and thanks for the link too.

GUYK, I agree so much. I wish with all my heart it would be like you said for our troops. Let them be and let them do what they are so fantastic at and stop interferring from the media and the politicians.

razOr, I too hope those that stayed home learned they gave it to the Dems, they did not win, we handed it to them.

RM1X:
What's RM1X? Something for a rash?
Look, commentary like that is just stupid. Obviously you haven't the brains or guts to stick around and argue.
Stop wasting time. You'll be late for your sex-ed class.
