Russian Rocket Deliveries To Iran Started

Russian rocket deliveries to Iran started

Breitbart.com

Russia has begun deliveries of the Tor-M1 air defence rocket system to Iran, Russian news agencies quoted military industry sources as saying, in the latest sign of a Russian-US rift over Iran.

"Deliveries of the Tor-M1 have begun. The first systems have already been delivered to Tehran," ITAR-TASS quoted an unnamed, high-ranking source as saying Friday.

The United States has pressed Russia to halt military sales to Iran, which Washington accuses of harbouring secret plans to build a nuclear weapon.

Moscow has consistently defended its weapons trade with Iran. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said the contract for 29 rocket systems, signed in December last year, was legitimate because the Tor-M1 has a purely defensive role.

ITAR-TASS reported that the rockets were to be deployed around Iran's nuclear sites, including the still incomplete, Russian-built atomic power station at Bushehr.

In August, Washington announced sanctions against several companies, including Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport, for supplying technology to Iran that could allegedly be used to develop missile technology and weapons of mass destruction.

Under the sanctions no US company can deal with foreign companies on the sanctions list for two years.

A spokesman for Rosoboronexport contacted by AFP would not confirm or deny the reports about the Tor-M1 delivery, which were also issued by the Interfax news agency.

The Tor-M1 is a low to medium-altitude missile fired from a tracked vehicle against airplanes, helicopters and other airborne targets.

The news came as the UN Security Council continued to consider possible sanctions against Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile activity in response to the Islamic republic's suspect nuclear programme.

The major powers have been debating a draft resolution drawn up by Britain, France and Germany that would impose limited sanctions on Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile sectors for Tehran's failure to comply with an earlier UN resolution on halting enrichment.

China and Russia, both close economic partners with Iran, argue the measures are too extensive, while Washington has pressed for tougher action.

Wild Thing's comment.......

Putin is playing with fire, the Muslims who destroyed a theater and murdered children care not one whit who supplies them with arms, they will attack the Russians just as quickly as they attack their fellow muslims.
Putin is a dangerous little man, killing one of his KGB agents in London, turning on Poland and continuing to arm the most dangerous people on the planet. What's next for Pootie, murdering anyone who seems a danger to his agenda of hate America, freedom and fair elections. Russia is falling down a rathole with this punk as their great leader. Wake up, and smell the corruption coming from Moscow, we are the enemy to Putin and it is time we stop enabling this little monster.

Russia is a gangster state, still paying the price for its Stalinist past. With a negative birth rate, endemic poor health, one of the lowest (and falling) lifespans in the world, disputed territories on the Chinese border and general decay, within twenty years Russia probably won't even exist as a serious competitor on the world scene. Oil and gas will not save them. It's the end for Russia, and good riddance to this trash.

These are facts. Energetic Muslim countries bordering Russia (and China) will eventually inherit one of the biggest messes imaginable, with pollution, nuclear decay, and all the problems of a Third World nation.

We need to keep the lid on with these apes (Putin being a preposterous little shit, way in over his head)until history punishes them all.

With WT's permission, some facts:

Russia makes up 30% of Eurasia's land mass, with a population of 143 million.

The population declines, on average, about 750,000 people a year.

Deaths from "unnatural causes" account for about 150,000 people a year, which are suicides, traffic accidents, murder and alcohol poisoning.

The maternal mortality rate is nearly 24 per thousand, compared to about 5 in the EU and 8 in the US.

In 2005, an estimated 4 million abortions were performed in a country of 143 million.

Russia's male life expectancy now is age 58, and 72 for women.

At current trends, in thirty years there won't be enough people to staff the economy or care for the sick and aged.

Fewer than half of today's 16 year olds in Russia will live to age 60, and one wonders which are the lucky ones.

Few people wish to emigrate to Russia. Last year the official migrant population increased by 107,000.

Goodbye to a sickening country.

Rhod thank you so much. Those are great facts to have too, I really appreciate it.

Mark hahahaha I love learning new expressions.......good one.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 25, 2006 08:17 PM

That is a brilliant wishful thinking, even if a small portion of your so-called facts are accurate, it does not necessarily mean that these current trends will not change in a foreseeable future, There is only one fact though, the reason why you people hate Putin is because he has made Russia strong and competitive. I’m sure that you much prefer seeing Russia being lead by people like Boris Yeltsin where developments are not made. Russia is quickly regaining its global leadership, thanks to Putin’s policies; Russia has achieved a significant leap in economic progress and stability which in turn ascends their position into the world stage that overshadows American influence and interests, your expected collapse of post soviet Russia didn’t happen, instead, what we have now is a rapidly ascending power, a potential power that can outwit the United States. So it’s definitely not a surprise if American people hate Russia so much, her mere existence already brings insecurity and anxiety to your people, what more if they are now in control?

Putin is recklessly endangering the world with his attempt to dominate the EU and his newfound allies. Yesterday he slapped an embargo on all the entire EU for the import of meat to Russia, just to punish Poland, Romania and Bulgaria for the latter two joining the EU.

Like Stalin he'll make his own nation's people suffer to bully another into submission. The EU wants to negotiate with former Soviet Union countries for energy supplies to lessen their Russian dependence, not that I give a rat's ass about the feckless EU, but Putin will kill to prevent that.

Russia's foray into Afghanistan was to give them a deep water port for oil distribution in the Persian Gulf, he'll have that with Iran and Iraq, and the Democrats will give it to him.

Russia under the Soviet Union was a disaster in the oil business, their arctic 48" pipeline burst on the tundra, polluting many square miles of land, prior to that disaster their Sodium cooled reactor blew up contaminating an entire region, forever. Then there was Chernoble.

But not a peep from the U.S.'s fascist environmentalists about these catastrophes, they still blame the United States for all world pollution and nuclear mistakes. I suppose when Iran nukes Israel they'll blame it on the US and a mistake by Iran that Putin was trying to prevent.

Not too much difference between the ears of a Russian Communist or an American one is there? "Spit"

Justice would be; Putin mysteriously poisoned.

LordAntagonist, are you a comedian? I ask because I am laughing so hard at your comment.

The USA worried or concerned about another country being more powerful? That is just too funny.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 26, 2006 12:32 AM

Jack, exactly and it will like be like you said too.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 26, 2006 12:35 AM

Tom that sure would be true justice.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 26, 2006 12:36 AM

Look at the bright side. Russia makes shit for equipment.

Except for the AK-47, and maybe a couple of other lucky ducks.

Posted by: Vinnie at November 26, 2006 01:50 AM

Not exactly more powerful but powerful enough to erase your country more than ten times, there is no sense of being the most wealthiest, influential and successful country if all of these can be taken away in just one push on the button. Learn to accept reality; learn to accept that you are Vulnerable

Posted by: LordAntagonist at November 26, 2006 02:45 AM

Vinnie haha yep there is always that.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 26, 2006 03:13 AM

Wild Thing, I'm inclined to agree with you guys about the fecklessness about Russia here. But if Russia is so weak while the US is so strong-- then why is the United States capitulating, surrender in such a humiliating, French appeasement style to Iran? If the USA is so powerful, then why are Bush and Blair (with Olmert in tow) so pathetically kowtowing to the Iranians, begging them to intervene in Iraq where Iran obviously has its own interests in mind?

What we should be doing, is ordering massive air strikes and even a limited ground invasion and naval bombardment to take out the Iranian nuclear facilities. We don't have to hit every one of them, just hit them hard enough to "chasten" them. Iran still hasn't rebuilt its military even to the level they were at before the Iran-Iraq War, and even with their military then, the Iranians very nearly had their asses kicked by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. They can't retaliate against us anymore than they already have, with their support of Hezbollah. They'll get the message.

But instead, Bush and Blair are grovelling like pathetic little French sissies to the Iranian mullahs.

As much as I hate to admit it, what this says to the world (including to Iran), is that the US is a piece of sh*t little loser of a country whose bark is much worse than its bite. We are SURRENDERING to Iran, the world's most dangerous country, without even pretending to put up a fight, and we're dragging Israel along with us. These "sanctions" that Condi Rice keeps blabbering about amount to, oh, basically blocking the Iranians from attending black-tie diplomatic luncheons as they continue to move to build their nuclear bombs. Way to go Condi, you tell 'em. And even these pisspoor pathetic sanctions are being blocked by Russia!

What this display of pathetic and embarrassing cowardice by Bush, Blair and Olmert shows to the world, is that the USA will back down when a barbarian messianic thug like Ahmadinejad pounds his chest hard enough and the Machiavellian mullahs manipulate enough behind the scenes. We supposedly have the world's most powerful military, yet we're basically following the French system of war-fighting right now and kissing the asses of the Iranian leaders.

I'm sorry, but as much as I'd like to bash Russia right now, I hardly think the US has a lot to be proud of. If we just capitulate like little sissies to Iran like this and let them go nuclear, then we deserve all the humiliation and contempt the world increasingly has for us.

Lord Antagonist:

You are truly a moron, probably hanging around Chernobyl too long. The facts presented have been published by the Russian government itself, and your snail trail hero Putin acknowledges them. You also have over one million AIDS sufferers who are costing Russia over $130 million a year to treat.

Drug use is at epidemic proportions. Russia can't produce a cake mixer that works, much less a modern military.

Russia is through, and with it, tiny authoritarian jackasses like you. Your country was once described as "a huge motor vehicle department with guns". Now it's a senescent, dying gangster state with a punk running the operation. It's nearly over, Lord Pinhead. And good riddance to you, too. Get used to it, LP; you lost, America will bury Russia with a sprinkling of lime.

Posted by: Rhod at November 26, 2006 07:17 AM

Oh yes, LP. The Chinese are occupying your Far East territories. What are you going to do about that?

Posted by: Rhod at November 26, 2006 07:19 AM

Given that some parts of the info you have provided are accurate, as what I have mentioned earlier, those are just short-term figures which are expected to drop within a short time period, I suggest you do additional reading regarding world affairs, last May, Putin has instructed his government to allocate a huge budget to finance a top priority project by the government that aims to resolve the current demographics problem facing the country, the program includes a wide variety of development plans ranging from infrastructure improvement to health care services, by next year the budget for the said program is expected to be doubled. With such projects in place, we can expect Russia’s demographic decline to be minimized and eventually normalize within 15 to 30 years.

Speaking of AIDS, here is a simple fact: The United States roughly has more people living with HIV/AIDS compared to Russia, was it too difficult to accept?

Russia can't produce a cake mixer that works… Well perhaps that was the reason why NASA occasionally rents Soyuz rockets to send their astronauts and other equipments to the ISS?

If you are really confident that the United States can compete against Russia ALONE then you shouldn’t even have thought of involving the Chinese, was it really necessary to include the Chinese just to beat Russia? Then you call yourself a patriot? Aren’t the Mexicans taking over? Fact: Not a single nation, even the United States will ever enter a war against Russia unless they are willing to cease their existence.

Previously a British told me that the United States is in terrible decline, I guess he was right. And I’m not Russian; I only support countries that are a potential rival of the United States. In order to maintain peace, the balance of power should be restored. And its either a new Super Power rises or the current Super Power is toppled and crushed. I prefer the latter.

Posted by: LordAntagonist at November 26, 2006 09:13 AM

Putin may think that by arming Iran he's making an ally. Unfortunately for him, Iran will turn on Russia in a heartbeat.

At one time Iran was our closest friend in the Middle East, next to Israel, and they turned on us. Oh yea, Yimmie Carter had a lot to do with that though. We were still training Iranian pilots and maintenance personnel here in the US when they took over our Embassy...I was in advanced electronics training with them.

As far as Russia overpowering the US...Not A Chance. When Russia comes up with something that will equal this, they I will be concerned.

Lt Scott, know what I agree with you. Yep absolutely! The problem is we don't have true conservatives running the government and please read on some other things how I feel about all of this. Thanks Lt Scott for your comment.

OK here is the thing. I meant what I said that we are the most powerful country in the world. I also believe we, have been the most powerful country in the history of the world. By comparison in strength and being the one that the entire world has had to deal with etc.

Now what you said is so true. We could daisy cutter all of Iraq and I am all for that. It would cut down on the injuries to our troops and the deaths to our troops and that to me is what counts.

Not one American soldiers life is worth the entire country of Iraq. imo

I also agree with you that America started off in this war with a purpose of such determination and will that I got goosebumps listening to the President speak of the axis of evil and how we basically were not going to take it anymore so to speak when it came to being attacked.

Why did Bush lessen his passion toward the axis of evil? Why did Bush kiss up to the Hezbollah when it came to the IDF of Israel fighting back and demanding their kidnapped soldiers be returned I don't know. Why did we as a country side with the UN against Israel and tell them to stop fighting. Believe me that ticked me off beyond words.

Why do we keep giving Iran more dates of this is it or else? I have no idea and I feel it weakens our stand to do such a thing. A parent doing this to a teenager would not be a good parent but one that let's the child rule and that is bad.

One time only Bush referred to our enemy as Islamofascists and he was applauded by those of us that are conservatives and attacked by the left (the enemy within) and CAIR and the other terrorists groups. I would have loved for Bush to say, yep I said it and meant it so handle it.

I honestly don't think we need to rethink this war as much as we need to get back to that direction that existed at the beginning of wanting to win no matter what. Let the military run this war they are pros at this not politicians. grrrrr And tell the political correct junkies to kiss off, and put their remarks and military weakening comments to themselves.

Take no prisoners unless it is necessary for information and let the world know we are determined on the mission of destroying all of this death cult wherever we find it.

I would rather be feared as a country then known as an appeaser.

If I was President, I would close down the Saudi schools, kick the mosques off our land, call this war what it is a war against Islam, tell the media and politicians they can say what they want in their bashing but the military will NOT cave in to their bashing and weaken their missions and how they fight. NO soldier will ever have to think again how his taking out one of the enemy will play on CNN nightly news.

Carte blanche for the troops to do what they have to do.

I could go on but this comment of mine is getting long. hahaa

Thanks again Lt Scott.

Russia will resolve its demographic problem in 15 years, at which time the population will be around 120 million. At current trends, by 2050, Russia will have a population of 80 million, nearly that of Iran, because the problem isn't just the birth rate. It's mortality, health and general decay. These problems are not solved by government.

I mentioned China, also, as a competitor in the Far East, and potential annexation of these territories. Emigration from the Far East is rapidly reducing these areas to empty villages and barren wastelands. What are the Russians going to do about it, LA? What are they going to do about Chechnya?

Right now, the US has a population of 300 million, and a GDP vastly superior to Russia's, Within the 15 years you recommend for addressing the demographics issue, the US will leave Russia in the mud. Just for starters, Antgonist, what does Russia produce beside oil and gas that the world uses? Nothing?

BTW, LA. America's population is more than TWICE the population of Russia's, which accounts for the AIDS figures.

Russia's problems are so deep as to be insoluble.
Without nukes, Russia would be a Third World power. Of course, you're opinions are worthless, and at least one of them is based upon the opinion of one "British".

Tell me what Russia will do to reverse its general decline in your own words. Not those provided by the Putin mouthpieces.

Posted by: Rhod at November 26, 2006 01:02 PM

Oh yes, LA. In 2005, fully half of the young men called to duty for Russia's armed forces were disqualified due to health, literacy or mental problems. This info came from Russia's defense ministry, not from The West. What's Putins's grand plan to address the deficits of an entire generation? More money?

Posted by: Rhod at November 26, 2006 01:05 PM

I forgot this, Lord Antagnonisto. Pravda reported on November 25, 2002, that 44 million people in Russia (with a population then of about 145 million) lived "below the poverty line"...meaning that they lacked sufficient food, sufficient clothing, sufficient treatment for medical problems, and adequate access to cultural entertainment and diversion.

Now, this sounds like a genuine superpower to me, right Antagonisto? Nearly a third of the population is below the poverty line. The figures are similar for Nigeria.
