I hate that “Spirit of” name thing the Air Force is using. Every B-2 is named “Spirit of “ Missouri, New York, or some other state. To me it seemed to emasculate one of the most powerful weapon in the Air Force Inventory. Leave off the “Spirit of” and just name it Go For Broke.

I agree BobF the spirit thing is too PC, whatever happened to originality. It's like the new kids on the block can't be original nor measure up to their predecessors, those old crewmen were great, their equipment was great and they did great things. I'd be sorely dissapointed if the new kids weren't better, they have modern weapons and equipment and the improved skills passed on from those old members to build on. Let them be creative with their own esprit de corps and name those birds accordingly. "Go for broke" is as good now as it was back then and doesn't detract from the original meaning. That C17 is an impressive aircraft.

Those B-52’s I linked to were named by their Crew Chiefs. The nose art was also panted by one of the Crew Chiefs. I was stationed at Wurtsmith during that time.

Jack, the Air Force started becoming very PC under General McPeak, a Kerry supporter. He took many of the traditional things and “modernized” them. The Service Dress Uniform he made into a business suite. The young troops today hate it, calling it a cheap leisure suite. They’re wanting go back to the uniform of the Billy Mitchell days; something they can have pride in. Check it out, I like the new look.
