Iran Providing Heavy Weapons To Al-Qaeda In Iraq

Assyrian International News Agency

As noted by the Iraqi daily newspaper az-Zaman, the Iranian government is supplying Iraq's al-Qaeda terror cells with the heavy weapons they have previously lacked including advanced anti-aircraft missiles, explosives and BKC machineguns.

The surface to air missiles are of the Russian Strela type.

The Strela is a heat seeking, self-contained, shoulder fired weapon and similar to the U.S. "Redeye" missile.

Though not having enough range to seriously challenge fast moving jet fighters and bombers, they are however viewed as grave threats when deployed against helicopters which must operate at much lower altitudes.

The newspaper report details that the technology transfer took place after meetings held in Beirut Lebanon between representatives of Iraqi al-Qaeda leader Zarqawi and the Iranian funded terrorist group Hezbollah.

The weapons were provided by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp IRGC.

The United States and Iraqi officials have repeatedly accused Iran's Islamist government of sending agents and arms into Iraq to assist the insurgency.

The IRGC is viewed as a religious defense force which was formed in the first days of the Iranian revolution of 1979 which overthrew the Shah of Iran Reza Pahlavi and brought Ayatollah Khomeini to power.

It is believed that the leadership of the IRGC reports directly to Iran's present day Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Wild Thing's comment.....

Just a second this is ticking me off big time. I want to hear Iran added to the axis of evil in 5 - count em' 5 seconds.
Or did I miss the memo on this!

America didn't know that World War II was going on until the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.
In World War III, the 911 attack came and went and still, much of America doesn't know that the war is going on,

I have no doubt that there would be calls to attack Iran, at least bomb its nuclear facilities, if the voters weren't still upset about the fiasco of a war that is Iraq. That one went so badly - espicially with the scandles relating to selective interpretation of inteligence - that its essentially impossible to gain voter support for any form of military action, anywhere, no matter how justified.

Such a talent for packing so many ridiculous remarks in a small space.

You have no doubt there will be calls to bomb Iran's nuke facilities? Amazingly perceptive. A day hasn't passed in the last year when there haven't been calls to do that. You took a real risk with that remark.

Next, linkage of your "no doubt" claim to something about "voters" makes no sense. If the "voters" are upset about Iraq, they're upset that we aren't being HARDER ON THE ENEMY. You think it's a "fiasco", so you dishonestly try to make your opinion valid by connecting it to "the voters".

Earth to Suricou Raven. There are no mispelled "scandles" with "selective interpretation of" mispelled "inteligence". Why do you people continue to insist upon this? What value does it have?

The pontifical pronouncement in your last complex sentence is completely meaningless. Voters don't wage war, and "voter" pacifism is no test of the reality of a threat. Your Neville Chamberlain proved it.

Working through you post your theory seems to be that voters are warlike if they don't make electoral mistakes, and therefore admitting that they've been fooled, decide not to be fooled again by making another mistake. I love it, Suricou. Brilliant.

Vaakov, what you say is so true.

Suricou Raven....... don't you ever get tired of the leftest mantra? "the fiasco of a war that is Iraq."
I actually feel sorry for people that do not get it.It must be awful to live in a world that cannot see the purple fingers of those who got to vote for the very first time and those that got to vote without fear of being killed, that cannot hear the voices of thank you President Bush and thank you troops from the residents in Iraq, that cannot learn that changes do not happen over night or a DSL speed war that begins and ends with a page loading.

How sad not to love Freedom and know with each breath you take what that freedom cost and what it is cost the rest of the world as well when our Veterans delivered it with their lives and sacrifices in WW11 and other wars including this one we are in now.

How sad and how pathetic.

I believe I am mistaken with equating 9/11 with Pearl Harbor and the onset of our OFFICIAL entry into WWII. I think the "New Pearl" is within 18 to 24 months will happen via rail or transport trailer and will be much bigger than 9/11.
In any case, once something like 9/11 happens again the left will shreek "why were we not prepared, the reason it happend was because of Bush, and we must capitulate or die".

Suricou:

One of the fiascos of Iraq was the resulting tribal divisions caused by your country after WWI.

SH - I am wainting for the shoe to drop as well. We might be at war, but it's not WWIII. That will be here soon enough.
